That reminds me there’s going to be a universal shortage on that stuff too… ha, the woes of the #1 Freelancer of Radiant Gardens, Felix Maximilian,” he explained although to no one in particular. No, right now he was simply minding his own business, searching the jungle of this world to see if he couldn’t find something interesting to do. He had made a pit stop at Agrabah earlier and while that was normally a good place for a guy like him it seemed like they were in the middle of a serious revolution. Needless to say, his presence wasn’t exactly welcomed and even if he could find people willing to talk to him they weren’t exactly forthcoming with info. He knew Agrabah was the kind of world one found ancient treasures and all that but when no one was giving you any leads to follow, going out in the desert would just be suicidal.
Another world he had visited had been an incredibly weird experience, one that he believed he would never tell anyone about even if his life depended on it. He had taken a wrong turn somewhere and ended up on in the Pride Lands, having been transformed into a rather… embarrassing animal. Said animal form had made it nearly impossible to get back into his ship and now that he thought about he remembered the few dings he had left. Scratching his head furiously, he growled in frustration as he knew that was going to cost quite a bit to buff those out when he got back to Radiant Gardens. The damage would have been forgivable too but when he got on that world and explored it he couldn’t find a single damn thing of worth. Not that it would matter much really, it wasn’t like he had pockets in that… humiliating form but still it would have been nice to at least seen something cool. All he had saw was a bunch of bones, dry land, and several piles of crap left by other animals that had decided to run along that area he had ended up in when he landed.
And now he was in a Deep Jungle, a pair of thick beige cargo pants being worn to protect his legs a bit better and a gray hoodie as it was the only thing with long sleeves he had. Indeed, his other outfit had been ripped when he had transformed on that stupid world and it wasn’t like he exactly had a lot of room in his Gummi Ship. In hindsight, it probably would have been better to opt for a larger ship but he had wanted to relive his childhood dream of being Batman far too much when shopping.
”Well it’s too late to return it now that’s for sure… stupid freaking Hippo transformation,” he added, his right fist clenched as a vein emerged on his forehead, ”Could have just been a human but NOOOOO had to transform into a damn Hippo and nearly destroy my entire ship when I couldn’t control my body the right way eh? Jeez I have to make a note to myself later to find out which worlds have that inexplicable magic to transform people when you land. Hehe and then maybe I should go look for that one red-head I met on Port Royal that day, I never did get her number after that little encounter did I?” he asked himself, a grin curving against his lips as the person in question came to mind. Indeed, she was quite a beauty and while they had been on opposing sides that day Felix wasn’t one to judge a person simply because they didn’t fight for good or whatever. He didn’t fight for good himself anyway; he fought for whoever paid him more often than not or picked the opponent that was either the strongest looking or the prettiest looking, and that red-head having been both. Even though their fight hadn’t lasted long, he had a feeling that if they ever fought again he’d be taking a few more wounds than he did and well nothing turned him on more than a girl that could kick his ass.
”Hehe and I never did get to hear her answer to my little wager, that was rather disappointing, I had been looking oh so forward to that date with her hadn’t I?” he noted to himself absent-mindedly, his hands cupped behind his head as he approached a clearing in the forest that was over a rather deep canyon. Closing his eyes briefly, he would release the grip on the back of his head as he spread his arms out wide, grinning widely as a pleasant gust of wind passed behind him. Although on that gust of wind was a rather fragrant smell as well, something that struck him as odd considering that he hadn't smelt it before when he had been IN the jungle. Raising an eyebrow, he pondered what it could be but gave up trying to deduce it and instead turned around to face that smell…
”Speak of the devil… how’s it going there signorina?”

[atrb=border,0,true][classy=bg][classy=text]Claire had been wandering through this jungle ever since one of those corridors had appeared and pulled her in then dumped her here. She really needed to find a way to travel between these worlds of her own free will and not being subjected to these portals dumping her wherever they pleased. Well, although she hated it there was nothing she could do about getting off this world until either another corridor showed up or of she could use her feminine charms to acquire transport much like she did in order to get to Port Royal. She was still sore about that defeat and she had made it a personal mission and with time and patience she would get her revenge.
During her walk through the jungle there had been a few foul creatures who had tried to attack her but they didn't stand a chance against her magic and the razor sharp edges of her chakrams. She had just finished finishing off a wounded gorilla and was cleaning her chakrams if the beast's blood. [red]"Filthy creature."[/red] Claire sneered at the newly created corpse. She then sheathed her chakrams and continued her way through the dense foliage. After a while of walking she heard a voice that didn't seem to be to far away. She decided to investigate. Perhaps she could use this person to get off of this Hyne forsaken world.
However when she closed in and got a better look at the person Claire could hardly believe her luck. It turned out the other wanderer though this jungle was non other than one of those she fought at Port Royal. It was the red haired man. Claire didn't think her chance at killing this man would come so soon. She followed him at a distance until he entered a clearing. This would be where she would make herself known. While she was following him she ran through scenarios on how she could kill him. She considering a stealth attack from inside the jungle but she thinking about past occasions where she tried that it didn't work out well.
Claire decided that a face to face confrontation would suit her fighting style better so once that she saw that the man had stopped in the clearing she too walked out into the open area. She was about to get his attention but something, she didn't know what, had caused him to turn around and spot her. Claire ignored the name he called her mostly because she didn't know what it meant. She assumed it was meant to be offensive though so that only served to add to her anger. [red]"Oh I'm doing fine. But I'll be even better after I kill you for what happened at Port Royal."[/red]
Claire wasn't one for small talk and idle banter. She was always a "straight to the point or get out of my way before I kill you" type of girl. She unsheathed her chakrams and right away threw them both at the man and then sent a Fire spell behind them. The chakrams were aimed at his torso. The Fire spell however was aimed at the spot just in front of where he was standing so even though it wouldn't hit him directly, once the spell hit the ground there would be a small plume of flame that would lash out at him and it would also light the grass of the meadow ablaze.
This time around she won't be beaten so easily. This time around he would pay for Port Royal. This time, he would die.

Yes, the red-head he had fought on Port Royal and had beaten down rather quickly, his tactics having gotten the better of her at the time. Although it wasn’t something he particularly enjoyed, striking a woman was never a fun thing to do even if he made it seem otherwise. Through and through Felix was a gentleman and wouldn’t hit a woman unless there was simply no other solutions… were that the case then he’d give said girl everything he had. And much to his dismay it seemed that would be the case with this woman, not even so much as asking him how he was doing before threatening to kill him. While others may have gotten scared by such a threat, it only made the freelancer smirk as he narrowed his eyes at her, his expression a mix of cockiness and skepticism. Placing one hand against his hip, the freelancer laughed heartily before shaking his head and pointing his other finger at her defiantly, his smirk now curving into a toothy grin. ”Jeez Red, we haven’t even so much as exchanged numbers and you’re already at that point where you want to kill me,” he started, taunting her a bit in the short time before her attack, ”Usually a couple has to date for a few months before they want to kill each other, you must really like me I’m touched. Oh speaking of dates don’t you owe me one after I beat you up at Port Royal?” he added, rubbing salt into the wounds. Despite being called a gentleman, Felix didn’t hold back when it came to a battle both physically and mentally and if he could get her irritated why not? Being irritated lead to frustration, frustration lead to mistakes, and mistakes could cost someone a battle very quickly if left unchecked. Would “Red” fall into the pace he was trying to create and lose herself in anger or would she resist his taunts laced with venom? Who could say who could know, either way Felix wouldn’t take it for granted and would move to strike regardless of whether she took the bait. Thus as the Chakrams were thrown and the Fire spell was shot forward, the freelancer would dash forward toward the attack with no fear. If the taunt didn’t catch her off guard perhaps this incredibly odd reaction to her attack would as most people would tend to EVADE spinning blades of death. The same could be said about the small fireball that followed after them but Felix was anything but “most people” and had some good insurance for survival. Indeed for as he ran toward the Chakrams and Fire spell respectively, he would activate one of his favorite manipulators, invisible to the naked eye. Yes, the Manipulator in question was Wind Manipulator wind surrounding Felix’s body and protecting him from nearly any physical attack. This applied to the Chakrams thrown at his torso, the weapons being thrown off course as the armor of wind wrapped around his entire body. As for the Fire spell, its course was rather obvious by the downward angle, presumably meant to put the ground on fire and perhaps stop his advance as his opponent was aware that he was a hand to hand fighter. That being the case and since he had Wind Manipulator |
[/b] active anyway, it was time to test out the recent addition he made to the technique, the ability to fly. Thus as the Fire spell exploded on the ground and Felix quickly closed the distance between them, he would suddenly jump forward with his knee extended outward, a right flying knee strike. It was a powerful strike that could catch someone off guard but with the distance between them there was no way he could reach his opponent… unless of course he got a little push. Indeed, a little push was what was needed and with his hands behind him as he jumped forward he would generate two gusts of wind out of his palms. This would propel him forward much faster and would allow him to close the distance very quickly, slip through the fire relatively unharmed (minor damage), and aim his strike at Claire’s pretty little head. Yet that wasn’t the end of this flying combo, no one more strike would be added and regardless of the success of his flying knee strike, Felix would position his palms to send another gust of wind to maneuver himself above Claire and over her head. It was a rather flashy move but it wasn’t often one encountered an opponent who could move so quickly in the air so perhaps it would catch the red-head with a passion for murder. Yes for the gust of wind would send him soaring over her head and after landing on the ground the freelancer would quickly turn his body around to face her. In doing so, he would use the momentum from turning around as he shifted his weight into a right cross aimed at the small of her back as he ducked. If she turned around to face him then the punch would instead be aimed toward her stomach although either result wouldn’t be rather pleasing if the blow landed accurately. Whatever the result of his attacks though, the freelancer would take a step back after his punch, slipping into his Orthodox Thai stance as the fire began to dance. Yes, the fire would begin to dance all around them, slowly spreading but surely with enough time it would engulf the entire jungle. I suppose it would be a rather fitting setting for a fight, makes me feel like I’m in a kung-fu movie or something like that,[/i] he mused, his eyes glued to Claire and watching her closely, ”So what else you got Red? I hope you don’t continue to disappoint me,” he taunted, his grin only growing wider. He wasn’t really disappointed but more so than fighting Felix enjoyed the hell out of teasing pretty women. Wind Manipulator[/b] - By using the same principle behind Mass Manipulator, Felix can manipulate the element of wind to his will. When activated, his body will be covered in an armor of wind, causing physical attacks to be redirected, making them glance or miss completely. This wind armor will not provide any innate resistance to Wind Elemental attacks. As for his attacks, they will all be given Wind elemental damage on top of the physical damage Felix deals normally. If attacked directly, an air vacuum will be created afterwards that sucks them in, immobilizing the opponent for one turn (Immoblize). The status effect will not be applied if the opponent is attacked with his katana. This ability has a two post duration, a three post cool down, and CAN NOT be used for one turn after a previous elemental manipulator (this applies to all elemental manipulators). (Added as Unity reward, 8th of August 2011.) Through rigorous training to gain a better control over the elements, Felix has managed to master the element of Wind. Due to his greater mastery over it, he is now able to also use gusts of wind to give him a degree of aerial movement when airborne. Furthermore, using this ability no longer causes him to be effected by Elemental Exhaustion nor take as long to use it once again. The time it takes to reactivate this ability is now two minutes (2 posts) as opposed to the previous three minutes (3 posts). After Claire had made her threats towards the man he had repsonded with delusion. Like she would ever consider dating someone like him. He was a goodie two-shoes and he had an ego the size of Balamb Garden and he made no efforts to hide it. The two of them, dating? She would have laughed if she hadn't been focused on fighting and killing him. Claire pretty much just tuned out what he had to say.
Claire watched as her chakrams and Fire spell traveled quickly towards her opponent. She had fully expected him to dodge either to the left or the right but instead he charged head on into the attacks. This should have caused the projectiles to hit him even sooner but instead they had simply veered off. One to the left, one to the right and went highup into the air and were now on the return flight to their owner. The Fire spell had also missed but that didn't matter much. The spell had set the meadow ablaze and it seemed that the fire did hurt him. At least in a small way.
Either way Claire still had an opponent who was flying directly at her at a rather fast rate of speed. It seemed that he was using some kind of ability to use the air and wind to his advantage. That was something that Claire would have to figure out how to get around in order to inflict some damage onto him. He was coming in for a flying knee attack and even though he was traveling at his incredible speed it was still a frontal attack that fully visible to claire so it was easy enough to simply duck down at the last minute and watch as he sailed over his intended target missing it completely.
Claire suspected that all that momentum would carry him far in the other direction but as she stood upright again and began to turn around she felt the full impact of his second attack and was sent hurtling to the ground. Somehow he was able to suddenly and drastically change his speed and direction in mid flight right behind her and launch that second strike. [red]"Damn it, how did you do that?"[/red] Claire staggered to her feet and took a moment to regain her composure after that last hit.
She turned around to face the man and saw that he was now taking some kind of fightning stance as the fire slowly started to spread around them as he spoke. [red]"That was just the tip of the iceberg..."[/red] Claire stared her opponent down as her chakrams returned to her and she caught him deftly without even taking her eyes off the man. Claire's eyes began glowing a crimson red as she let go of her chakrams and they slowly began rotating around her, gradually picking up speed until they were going at such high speeds that a ten foot high tornado had formed around her. Then the tornado began picking up rocks of various sizes from small pebbles to ones the size of a fist as Claire infused it with her Quake spell. Then she trusted her right hand forward and the Chakram Cyclone began traveling at the man at high speed. With luck he would get trapped in it for a short time and during that time he would get pelted with the rocks inside the tornado doing moderate damage.

Indeed, for while his Wind Manipulator |
[/b] was active any attack he managed to land, even if only a graze would cause her feet to be glued to the ground. Or perhaps not her feet but rather her entire body would be more apt as a vacuum of air would be created and immobilize her. Whatever the case, she would ask him a question as she stood back up and was presumably put under the effects, his smile quickly curving into a wide and arrogant smirk. ”Hehe sorry but a magician never reveals his secrets,” he would start, his smirk quickly growing wider and becoming his signature grin, ”Although perhaps over dinner I might feel so inclined to give you a hint as to how I pulled it off if you’re interested,” he added, not taking the situation even the least bit seriously. He couldn’t really; life and death situations for him were a part of his everyday life and if you asked the freelancer how many binds he had been he’d answer “that’s like asking me how many buns I’ve eaten,”. Indeed, he had been in far too many to count but in every single one he managed to come out on top whether it be without a scratch or full of bruises but still breathing. How this particular incident would pan out he wasn’t sure yet although if nothing else it would allow him to continue to test his new and improved Wind Manipulator[/b]. And thankfully enough after his small taunt it seemed like “Red” was more than willing to provide him another attack for him to play around with, and a rather fierce glare. Yet again though, Felix returned such glares with nothing but confidence, his grin never fading despite her creating an attack that could possibly kill him. Quite frankly it was impossible to stare the freelancer down, especially in a fight he wasn’t taking nearly as seriously as his opponent; in fact he was having fun. Yes, despite the fact his opponent had the intent to kill; he was having quite the time taunting and teasing her whenever he could. Life was the longest thing one experienced after all, if one allowed death threats and the like to get to them, it was impossible to enjoy that life as far as Felix was concerned. No, in his opinion if you wished to “live life to the fullest” as the saying goes, then the only way to go about that was to put your life on the line. As far as he was concerned, one couldn’t truly appreciate their life until they were on the edge of death where just one mistake could cost them. And he exemplified that philosophy, constantly taking life or death gambles like the one he would be taking now, to see if he could withstand this attack. ”Tip of the iceberg you say?” he started as the tornado began to pick up several small pebbles and rocks, a small chuckle escaping his lips, ”Alright then I’ll take that challenge, hit me with everything you got here, don’t hold back otherwise I will really will be disappointed,” he challenged, the tornado being sent his way and without hesitation the freelancer jumped straight into it, putting his forearms in front of his face. He would then be swept up in the tornado, spinning about wildly as the rocks began to cut him here, there, and everywhere else. It was rather painful to say the least and would certainly force him to buy a new shirt later but by using his forearms he managed to protect his head. Yes, it was difficult all things considered but his forearm guards helped quite a bit in protecting his head and face from the brunt of the attack. While the rest of his body had cuts all over, so long as his head was alright then he could continue to fight, he could pull off what he had in mind. Thus as the tornado carried him upwards, he would add his own gusts of wind using his hands to push him out of it and above Claire’s current position. It was at this point those gritted teeth with become a grin as the adrenaline began to pump helping him ignore the pain for a moment and move to strike back. Yes, with this advantageous position above his opponent and her currently immobilized due to landing that earlier blow, now was the time to land a heavy blow. That being noted, gravity would begin to take effect as Felix extended his right leg, withdrew his left leg, and put his hands above his head. The reason being that instead of just allowing gravity to power his next strike, he would also increase his velocity towards the ground by using another double gust of wind. Pushing out from his hands, the gust of winds would propel his entire body downwards, his right foot positioned to slam into Claire’s chest. It wasn’t the nicest thing to do to a lady but Felix wasn’t going to pull any stops here knowing that his opponent was in a tight spot. Indeed, since she wouldn’t be able to move, unless she had a spell that could stop his momentum she would damn near be forced to take this attack. Not only that, but any physical attack would still prove rather useless for the time being with his Wind Manipulator[/b] still active. Yes, things certainly weren’t looking in “Red’s” favor even if the freelancer had to eat a rather nasty attack to provide this opportunity. Well like in Poker, sometimes you got to take a hit on purpose to make people drop their guard,[/i] he would muse as the blow either landed or didn’t and his feet were now back on solid ground, Now it’s time to see if this little gamble worked out for me or not,[/i] he would finish mentally, the fire having spread even further thanks to the tornado attack from earlier. Wind Manipulator[/b] – Will fall off at the start of next post or rather is only active for the result of the last attack I have made. In either event… 2 Post CD start. What kind of crap was this? First he dives head first into her chakrams and Fire spell and now he does it again with her Chakram Cyclone. Claire knew now that there was certainly a method to this insane way if fighting. It seemed that he could use his opponents attacks to catch them off guard and do some damage to them. She was beginning to catch on to his scheme and she needed to figure out a way to exploit this for her own benefit.
She watched as Felix got hit and scratched left and right from the neumerous rocks and pebbles that were whizzing around inside the twister she had created. Claire was trying to figure out how he was going to use her attack to get the drop on her and soon enough she had her answer. The Cyclone had carried him higher and higher until he had reached the top. He became free of the tornado's grasp and he began decending back down to the ground in Claire's direction. She attempted to move out of the way but she found that for some reason she could not move. Felix was coming down quickly, even faster now because of the gust of wind he used. Claire had nothing she could use to stop his decent so she braced for the impact. She judged that the point he was aiming for was her chest so she crossed her arms in front of it to block some of the damage. Indeed it did stop a majority of the impact's force from directly hitting her chest but her arms were hurting somethng fierce as she was once again tossed to the ground.
[red]"I gotta say, you hit hard for a pansy. I almost felt that one."[/red] Claire said as she began to get up to her feet. The attack had done a good amount of damage and Claire's breathing had become a bit more labored but she did her best to hide it so she could make Felix think that it hadn't affected her far less than it actually had. Claire caught her chakrams as they returned to her after the Cyclone had dissapated and she glared at her opponent. [red]"This fire is getting pretty bad. Maybe you should run before you get burned..."[/red]
With that Claire prepared to casts a couple more spells in Felix's direction but just then the ground began to rumble and trees in the distance seemed to jostle and dance of their own volition. Something was coming to their location, something big and Claire doubted it was a good something.

It was hard to believe otherwise after all, he had used both a gust of wind and gravity to increase the power of his attack and his Wind Manipulator |
[/b]. Anything short of blocking an attack like that with a shield wasn’t going to help much and she had still been knocked over by the sheer impact of the blow. Thus when she attempted to play it off, the freelancer wasn’t entirely convinced although he supposed it was equally possible that she might have used some sort of defensive spell. Again, not terribly likely but it never hurt to be too careful and since his attack had landed anyway, the immobilize effect would take a hold of Claire once more. That being noted, he had time to plot his next attack as his Wind Manipulator[/b] fell off, a small smirk curving against his lips as he cracked his neck tauntingly. With each passing second this fight was becoming that much more interesting and now that “Red” was finally talking he couldn’t help but be a little happy. ”Hehe and here I thought you were a mute, glad to see the cat didn’t get your tongue,” he started, rotating his right shoulder as he returned her glare with a resolute stare, ”It would be no fun if you didn’t talk some smack back although you might have to step up your game if you plan to get under my skin, I’m not that easy to taunt,” he answered, his tone rather cocky as was the norm. Cracking his knuckles, the freelancer got ready to attack once more as another plan had come to mind but was stopped short when he began to hear a low rumbling. Yes, it was a bit distant and he couldn’t be sure exactly what it was but he could take quite a few guesses considering the current state of affairs. The two had been fighting for only a few minutes but in that short time the fire “Red” had sent off had quickly begun to engulf and spread throughout the jungle. It was likely that whatever was in the jungle was now attempting to escape and from the sounds of it… they were coming this way. ”Tch and right when we were beginning to enjoy ourselves,” he started as “Red” noted that perhaps he should leave, a sentiment he agreed with, ”Hmph no doubt, I’d rather not get burned to death or trampled, whichever comes first. That being said let’s stop our little scuffle here, there’s no need to continue anyway I wasn’t really interested in killing you or anything like you seem so intent on,” he explained, a small sigh escaping his lips as he slipped his hands into his pockets. Beginning to walk away, the freelancer got only a few feet away before he realized something… she would still be immobilized from his earlier attack. Even if she was rather tough or just acting the part, that didn’t change the fact that he had landed his previous attack which would lead to a startling lack of movement for her. If that was the case she wouldn’t be able to move and the stampede would run right over her… and it wasn’t too far off from the sounds of it. Gritting his teeth tightly as his eyes narrowed, the freelancer turned around just as the stampeded was coming toward the two of them, more than ready to trample over them. This didn’t leave Felix many options and without hesitation he would dash toward “Red”, jumping at her to tackle her out of the way… and down the canyon with him. Indeed, perhaps it was just bad luck but where they had fought had not been an ideal place to battle when it came to making a later escape if an event like a stampeded were to occur. All paths of escape had been cut off aside from jumping into the ravine and the freelancer believed their chances of surviving that fall were much higher than surviving being trampled over. Although that didn’t make it any more pleasant of an alternative and acting on nothing but instinct, the freelancer quickly grabbed “Red’s” head, hoping to hopefully protect her from the fall. He had no particular reason to; it was simply his way of life to protect any woman from harm although it wouldn’t last long as his back collided into a rock jutting out from the canyon. Letting out a grunt of pain, his grip around “Red” would loosen as he they were separated and fell down into the pit of darkness that lay below them. X---Sometime Later---X And only moments later would the freelancer find his eyes opening slowly as he attempted to gather his bearings and make note of his current surroundings. He wasn’t sure where he was for a moment but after looking around for a bit and the pain of falling however many feet following… it didn’t take him long to figure it all out. Rubbing his head, Felix let out a sigh which only put him in more pain as it seemed he had broken a few ribs in that fall among all the cuts and bruises. It was going to be hard to move after taking this much damage but thankfully he did have an ability to heal himself, namely his Water Manipulator[/b]. Suddenly, water would surround the freelancer’s body as the wounds on his body began to mend, and even the broken ribs he had were repaired. It was a slow process but given enough time he would be able to get back in fighting shape and then hopefully make his way out. Yes, he could get off this planet and take some time off for recovery after this rather incredible and taxing incident that had taken place. Although it feels like I’m forgetting something…[/i] he mused as he closed his eyes briefly and opened them up. It was upon opening them up again he noticed a strand of red hair in the water that surrounded his body, his eyebrow arching at it as he knew it wasn’t his own hair. Thus the question became who’s hair it was and after only about a moment he remembered that “Red” had also fallen with him. Or perhaps had been taken with him would be more apt a description as he did push her… although it had been with the intention of saving her. Whatever the case that meant that she had to be nearby as he doubted she could have fallen too far away from him and calling out to her might be prudent. Thus, despite not being fully healed quite yet, the red-head managed to stand back up shakily, clutching his ribs as he began to walk around in the dark ravine. ”Hey Red you still here?!” he shouted, hoping to get a response but continued calling before allowing much time in between, ”Are you alright?! That was one hell of a fall so if you can help lead me to you with your voice I can come give you a hand! Hey Red where are you?!” he would shout and continue calling out to the woman. Despite their fight and what could be seen as his rather insufferable personality, his tone would come across as both sincere and concerned, hoping that he would get an answer. He wouldn’t leave her behind, they had gotten into this mess together and they would get out of this mess together, he couldn’t leave an injured woman behind to fend for herself. An incredibly beautiful one at that… although I’m curious if there’s more to her than a pretty face,[/i] [/style] [STYLE=font-family: trebuchet ms; font-size: 9px; color: #606060; opacity: 0.9; text-align: right;]MADE BY AYU OF BACK TO NEVERLAND ( x)[/style] [/td][/tr][/table][/center]

As much as she didn't like it, the man was right. The hazards of the enviornment was becoming a larger and larger issue to deal with then her quest for revenge. With the fire now engulfing a fair portion of the jungle surrounding them and what sounded like a stampede heading there way both of the combatants needed to cut their battle short to avoid being killed. Claire hated agreeing with the man but she knew she had to. She wasn't stupid enough to keep trying to kill him when there were far larger threats present.
[red]"Fine. The battle is over. For now."[/red] Claire said to Felix as he walked began walking away. She tried to turn to walk in the opposite direction when she noticed that she couldn't move her legs at all. [red]"What? Why can't I move?[/red] Claire asked herself. It was then that Cliare began feeling one of the things she hated above anything else, fear. She was afraid. Afraid that she was going to die. She mentally laughed at that. She would gladly take the life of someone else but she was afraid to die herself? [red]"You're pathetic Claire. You deserve this."[/red] She whispered to herself as she closed her eyes and waited for the end to come.
What happened though was something Claire didn't expect. She expected to feel the ground shake violently as her demise approached. She expected to feel her body being crushed by thousands of pounds of paniced beasts. What she did feel however were a pair of arms surround her and begin carrying her. Her eyes snapped open and saw that the person that was now saving her was the one that she had tried to kill not five minutes ago.
Before Claire could process what was going on Felix had send both of them over the edge of a cliff and could only watch as he held her head close to his chest, apparently to protect her as they fell, at least until they hit something that caused him to let her go and they were seperated for the rest of the fall. Claire tumbled helplessly down the side of the cliff where rocks, some on the cliff face, some dislodged and faling due to the disturbance pelted her body and were cutting and bruising her badly. But the worst injury was yet to come.
As she neared the bottom of the canyon her body began rolling down the side with Claire unable to do anything to stop herself. There happened to be a broken off branch that had become lodged in some rocks over the years and it happened to be in Cliare's path. She didn't even see it until it was too late. The branch impaled her thigh then broke off of the rocks. Claire then hit the bottom of the canyon. The pain from the fall was intense but it paled in comparison to the branch that now protuded from the front and back of her right thigh.
Claire screamed out in pain and her breath was labored. She tried to sit herself up and scoot herself back on a boulder so she was in more of a sitting postion. Once that was done she examined the branch. She hissed and groaned in pain with each breath, her hair, clothes and body caked with dirt and blood. The branch was all the way through her leg, sticking out of the back at least 6 inches and the front by about 8 inches. Claire knew she didn't have any way to heal herself and she didn't know how to deal with an injury like this. Blood began pooling underneath her as it dripped from her leg and down the branch. She knew that she didn't have a lot of time before she blacked out and died from blood loss.
But the way she saw it was she was back to where she began when the stampede was coming. She had accepted the fact that she was going to die. She thought it was was she deserved and it looks like she was going to any way despite Felix grabbing her and sparing her from getting crushed by the frantic animals. Claire closed her eyes as she felt her energy fading and could only think of one question.
Why?
Why had Felix saved her? She is his enemy. She had every intention of ending his life. It was her experience in life that people don't usually go around saving the lives of those that want them dead. Claire figured it was because he was good. That is the only thing she could think of. Not that she could think of a lot due to blood loss.
Hours passed and somehow with a good size pool of blood underneath her Claire was still awake, she was still alive. She wasn't every coherent though. It was darker now though. She could determine that much. Then she thought she heard something. A voice, calling out to her. She thought it sounded familiar but she couldn't place it. Who would be looking for her? Nobody knew she was here. She remembered a fire. She remembered fighting Felix. He was the only one who knew where she was. But he wouldn't be looking for her, would he? She tried to kill him. He wouldn't want to help the person who attempted to murder him. Nevertheless the voice did wake her up a bit more when it called out to her again. It sounded like Felix. The voice was calling her "Red" like he did. Maybe it was him. If it was he wanted her to call out to him to lead him to her. [red]"Stupid guy. Just go. Let me die."[/red] She muttered to herself. She had no intention of letting him know where she was. She had accepted death, embraced it at the top of that cliff and she wouldn't turn away from it now.
It would seem though that fate, or Claire's lack of awareness, whatever you want to call it had other plans. When Claire tried to adjust herself where she sat she forgot that there was a branch sticking through her leg. As she moved her leg the branch hit the ground which caused it to agitate the wound. Claire let out an ear shattering scream that was sure to be heard a good distance away which was followed by several more loud yells of intense pain. If there was anyone looking for her. That would surely give the person an idea of where she was.

More than anything, he wished to return to his Gummi Ship where he would have some first-aid equipment and food to nourish his belly. More than anything he wished to hop into that Gummi Ship and fly far away, to not return to this planet for a long, long time. And more than anything he wanted to go back home, go straight to his house and collapse onto his soft and warm bed. Yet something prevented him from doing so, or rather a certain someone prevented him from attempting to find a way out of this canyon. That someone was another red-head like himself, a red-head he had yet to get the name of and was now aptly referencing her as “Red”. Yes, before he could leave he had to find her, he had to help her, and he had to make sure that she got proper treatment. After that fall there was absolutely no way that she was alright and considering the lack of response when he shouted her fate only seemed grim.
No, I can’t give up, I’m the one who got her into this mess after all so I’ll be the one to fix it, |
[/i] he mused, a small sigh escaping his lips, I should have known better, once the jungle went on fire I should have stopped it there. I shouldn’t have indulged her in that fight even if it was fun, I should have known that they were coming once the fire began,[/i] he continued mentally, his teeth gritting as his eyes shut. He clenched his fists tightly despite the pain that surged up through his arm as he did so, truly regretting his decision to fight. Indeed, he had no intention of killing the woman even if she wanted his own head and if she died as a result of his actions he wasn’t sure he could live with that. While he had already killed prior he had always done so on business and it was targets that were rotten to the core and deserved it. Never before had he actually killed an innocent person or rather killed someone without reason, thus he could justify his actions but if “Red” had died thanks to his actions… Yet thankfully enough, the freelancer heard a scream of pain, his eyes opening wide as it caught him off guard, his musings completely derailed. Yes, upon hearing that scream his adrenaline quickly began pumping as he rushed over to where he believe to have heard it, ignoring the pain in his legs. Without much of a delay, he soon arrived at the scene and activated his Fire Manipulator[/b] technique, flames suddenly surrounding his entire body. They provided some light in this dark canyon that seemed to block out the moonlight and with it was able to located the woman known as “Red”. He smiled in relief as he headed over to her but after a few steps he soon stepped into a puddle, crimson liquid splashing about. He looked down to the source and saw a rather large puddle of blood, his eyes widening at the sight as he quickened his pace. Kneeling down by her side, he quickly took a moment to assess the situation, looking at the wound and the rest of her body. He gritted his teeth at the sight, the wound was terrible, her body was pale and shaking, and it was quite likely she was going into shock. ”Damn it why didn’t you call me over?!” he shouted although despite the anger that was on his face he quickly moved into action, ”I’m not leaving you behind, I’m not letting you bleed anymore, and I’m not going to let you die in some shitty canyon!” he added as his eyes narrowed and he took a deep breath. He needed to concentrate for what he was about to do, if he wanted to save her he couldn’t allow himself to lose focus for even a moment. Thus if she decided to say or do anything his mind shut it out, no protest would reach his ears nor would he allow any distractions. Pulling the sword out from the scabbard on his back, Felix would place it on the ground and place his foot on it, the flames around his body moving towards it. He couldn’t do this in battle as it required too much concentration but right now the freelancer was focusing nearly all the flames on his right foot. This would increase the heat tremendously and within no time at all the katana began to glow a vibrant red, ready to be used for cauterizing. As that process went on, he would lift her leg over his shoulder, elevating it to slow the bleeding down even if it did look a bit weird. Not that he cared though, her life was on the line and courtesy could sit in the back when he was attempting to treat this wound. Yet one more task had to be accomplished before he could cauterize the wound and that was to remove the foreign object that didn’t belong. Yes, he had to remove the branch from her leg but pulling it out would be dangerous as it could cause a lot more blood to release and do more damage. Thus the only option left for him was to burn it and to do so would also require all his concentration as the flames on his body moved over. They would move to his right hand as he took another deep breath before gripping the stick, his breath being release as he grabbed it. As he did so, trickles of flame would run down the branch, going all the way through the wound yet not burning the victim at all. He was controlling the flames very precisely and while it was a terrible strain on him mentally he didn’t falter and soon removed it. Indeed, the branch was completely burned into nothingness, not a trace remaining and all that was left was to cauterize the wound to stop the bleeding. It was at that point Felix would grab the hilt of his katana, the flames on his body flowing back to the sword to retain the heat. ”This is going to hurt like hell,” he warned, lifting his left arm and placing it near her face, ”We don’t have time to look for anything else for you to bite on so if you need to chomp on something use my arm. Who knows if you’re lucky you might kill me,” he added in a tone that was half joking. The other half was actually disturbingly sincere, almost as if he wished to be punished for causing this situation, for being the reason she was in such a state. Whether it was his fault or not though that didn’t stop him from pressing the blade against the top of her leg over the wound. A scalding sound would be heard as the metal was pressed against the wound, steam rising from the blade as it cauterized the wound within a moment. He would then do the same with the bottom of her thigh, the same scalding sound being created as he gritted his own teeth tightly (whether it was because she took him up on his offer or not, it wasn’t a pleasant thing to cauterize a wound). Whatever the case, with the deed done he would discard the blade as his Fire Manipulator[/b] was deactivated, the flames disappearing as quickly as they came. He couldn’t hold the technique any longer; having had to focus the flames on certain areas of his body was exhausting especially making sure none of them graced his right shoulder. If they had, they would have burned Claire’s leg that he had elevated using his shoulder and he didn’t wish to cause her any unnecessary pain. In any event, it was then the freelancer would let his head slump forward, his breathing heavy as he attempted to recover even if only a little. After a moment he would lift his head up toward Claire, grinning sheepishly as he scratched the back of his head with his free hand. ”Jeez you’re a lot of trouble you know?” he started, his tone mocking seriousness but it was easy to spot the sincerity as well. Indeed, he was being sincere right now, something that was oft not the case as he tended to play the role of the “village idiot” sort of speak. It was probably a bit weird coming from him but given the situation the freelancer was incredibly glad that he had found her before she… ”E-Er that aside since we’re stuck in this canyon together anyway I believe it would be prudent if we work together,” he started, his tone a bit bashful, another thing a bit uncharacteristic of him, ”If you still wish to kill me after it’s all said and done that’s up to you but until we get out of here and you’ve recovered I think a truce is in order… what do you say Re-,“ he paused a small smirk curving against his lips as he shook his head, ”Or rather whatever your name is, I don’t believe I ever gave you a chance to introduce yourself,” he finished, a small snicker escaping his lips as a grin replaced that smirk and he winked at her in an attempt to lighten the mood. And well from this close she really is rather pretty,[/i] he added although kept that one to himself as he wasn’t sure how she’d take compliments at this point. "Damn it why didn't you call me over?"
[red]"Because I want to die."[/red]
"I'm not leaving you behind, I'm not letting you bleed anymore, and I'm not going to let you die in some shitty canyon!"
[red]"Why not? I tried to kill you. Why would you want to save the life of your attempted murderer?"[/red]
Claire layed there in on the canyon floor covered in dirt and blood as the man rushed to her side and began working to save her. She barely knew that he was there though. She had lost a considerable amount of blood and was delerious by this point. She was so disconnected that she barely resgistered the man lifting her leg over his shoulder although the pain that her wound caused when he did that brought her back a little. She let out a cry of pain as the man began heating his sword. She managed to lift her head a bit then through great strain she was able to prop herself up on her elbows to get a better view of what the man was doing.
Claire was awake but her eyes had this glazed over look to them. She was feeling quite light headed and woozy but she managed to keep herself from vomiting on both of them. She noticed that the man was on fire but it wasn't hurting him. She was too out of it to figure out why and at this point she didn't really care. The next thing he did was grab the branch. This made Claire a bit more aware as she braced in preparation for the pain that was sure to come when he yanked the branch out of her leg. He didn't pull it out though. The whole thing was engulfed in flames and burned away. Claire didn't feel a thing though. She wondered if him being on fire was some sort of ability that let him control the flames around his body. It was a neat trick but Claire was in no condition to say anything on the matter.
"This is going to hurt like hell."
[red]"What was?"[/red]
"We don't have time to look for anything else for you to bite on so if you need to chomp on use my arm. Who knows if you're lucky you might kill me."[/red]
This is what he said as he brought his forearm up to Claire's face. What was he going to do? That question was soon answered as he brought up a sword whose blade was red hot. Claire's mind was slow but she managed to put two and two together. She had no time to protect the searing blade made contact with her impalement wound. Claire let out a very loud scream of pain as the blade burned at her wound. Once the man was done with that he did the same thing to the underside of her thigh. On this one Claire sank her teeth into his arm. She tasted blood and she knew she had bitten through his flesh by at least a little bit. She screamed this time too but it was muffled by her bite.
Once the procedure was done the flames around his sword and body disappeared and he slumped over. Claire let herself lay flat on the ground once again and managed to roll over causing her leg to fall off of the man's shoulder. She hissed in pain as it hit the ground and disturbed her still very raw wound although it had been burned to stop the bleeding. She wrapped her arms around herself and closed her eyes as the man began talking again.
[red]"I'm more trouble than I'm worth. You should have just let me die. I don't know why you would bother treating my wound. Only the insane would try to help the someone who just tried to kill them. The sane would have just let me rot down here or get trampled by that stampede. But not you."[/red] Was Claire really that heartless? This man had just saved her life, probably risking his own in the process, and she's berating and lecturing him? She may be a being of darkness but she was still human. She should be thanking him. Especailly since whatever he did with his sword had caused some of the pain in her leg to subside. [red]"I'm sorry. You treated my injury and all I gave you was a lecture. This isn't easy for me. Normally no one would give a crap about me. Whether I lived or died. But you did. So thank you."[/red]
Claire was ready to die. She was prepared to throw her life away. Maybe it was because she was weak. Maybe it was because she couldn't win on her own even against a single opponent. Maybe it was because she made stupid mistakes like setting an entire jungle on fire in her haste to defeat said single opponent. But then she realized. Death is the cowards way out. Nothing good would come of it even if there was no one to mourn her passing. She decided that she wanted to live.
[red]"Yeah, I guess you're right. Although I don't think I'll be of much help. I can't do much with a tunnel through my leg. Even if it is closed up. You've already beaten me, twice. I don't think trying to kill you again will result in anything different. And... my name is Claire."[/red]

Was it gratitude? Was it sincerity? Was it both? Actually it was neither, a sheepish grin curving against the freelancer’s lips as she berated him, his right hand lifting to scratch the back of his head. Indeed, no matter his justification it was rather odd for him to be assisting the woman who had just tried to kill him moments ago. Or rather at least to that person in question, while it wasn’t all that strange to the freelancer it wasn’t like he could expect her to know. Unless she could read minds there was no way she could know his reasoning behind his decision and thus he would have to explain himself. Or at least that had been his plan until she apologized for her earlier lecture, saying that she should be grateful for his actions. To this he shook his head lightly, standing back up as he began to loosen his body up, feeling a bit stiff after the hasty first-aid treatment. ”It’s fine no need to apologize, what you’re saying is completely logical after all no doubt,” he began, a nervous chuckle escaping his lips, ”I am a freelancer and typically men of my occupation don’t do anything for free so I can certainly understand why you may suspect something. Although you may trust me about as far as you can throw me, the reason why I saved you was because I was the one who incited the fight. I didn’t need to egg you on nor did I need to fight, I could have simply fled and left it at that yet instead I decided to take you on. I’m no pacifist or anything but attempting to kill me isn’t a justifiable reason for me to allow someone to die, let alone a rather beautiful woman,” he explained, his signature grin returning at his last bit. Yes, despite the fact that he had earlier thought it prudent to hold the flirting for later, he simply couldn’t hold back for much longer. No, the flirtatious part of his character was something that would never change about him and he was the type to give credit where due. In this case, credit was certainly due for “Red” even if right now she was covered in dirt, cuts, and several bruises, that mattered little. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder after all and the girl still seemed as attractive as she had moments before their little scuffle. If anything perhaps more so now than before, it wasn’t often one found someone that was willing to admit they were wrong, there was a global shortage of humility. It was a rather pleasant character trait to come across as the freelancer wasn’t a fan of ignorant fools who couldn’t admit they were wrong. If anything, it might also mean that she had a similar view on “good & evil” in that they were simply shades of grey. Whether that was the case or not though was of little importance, the more pressing issue was getting out of this canyon and surviving. ”I’m glad we’re in agreement then Claire and you needn’t worry about that, I may not look it but I’m a rather reliable guy hehe,” he started, his facial expression lighting up with fiery determination, ”When it comes to surviving in the wilderness you won’t find anyone who can top the #1 Freelancer of Radiant Gardens, Felix Maximilian,” he boasted, a wide grin curving against his lips as he shifted over to her. Crouching down, he took a moment to look over her wound again as if to confirm whether she could really move or not and shook his head. Nope, movement was certainly out of the question and considering the loud scream she made earlier and all the blood she lost leaving her wasn’t an option. Indeed, it was quite likely that some sort of predator, whether it be a tiger, a lion, or what have you heard that scream and caught a whiff of the blood. If it decided to investigate and saw the woman in her current state there was a high likelihood it might just have a midnight snack. Thus that really left only one choice and without hesitation the freelancer would help Claire back up and attempt to put her on his back. Her assistance would certainly speed up the process but whether she did or not, he couldn’t leave her behind for whatever creature may come by. Whatever the case, once she was on his back securely he would make sure to mind the wound she incurred as best he could while holding her up. From there he would simply begin walking forward not a hundred percent sure he was going the right way but sitting around wouldn’t change anything. ”Alright well first things first, we should try to find some shelter if we can for until I can find some sort of landmark that I recall we won’t be able to find my ship,” he started, his tone calm as he used his phone as a source of light, ”If you happen to see anything feel free to tap me on the head but in the meantime… why not get to know each other? I mean we haven’t much else to do and talking has always helped keep my mind off grievous wounds as I’m sure that still stings. And well truth be told I’m kind of interested in finding out a bit more about you Claire, I think there’s more to you than the meets the eye,” he explained, a small chuckle escaping his lips. Yes despite the fact she had tried to kill him, he was still able to laugh as his time as a freelancer had been nothing but gambles with his life as the ante. Furthermore, he wanted to believe that the woman he was carrying on his back had more reason for her actions than simply cause he teased her a bit. Perhaps a psychopath might take that as enough reason to kill someone but the girl didn’t exactly strike him as a crazed lunatic out for blood. If she was then surely she would have tried to kill him after he had slumped forward in exhaustion from using his powers to administer first-aid. After all, he had dropped his sword back then so she could have easily grabbed it and stabbed him in the face yet that had not occurred. While one might argue that she avoided doing so until they got out of this mess due to his reasonable argument, with lunatics reason didn’t exactly work. That being the case he had to believe there was a deeper reason, nobody was just born with the desire to kill people, and it wouldn’t make sense. Humans were by nature social beings that wanted interaction with others, something had to have made her this way where just a little teasing got her irate. At least that’s what he wanted to believe, what the truth of the matter was could be something entirely different than he suspected but either way he wanted to know. ”So what was it like growing up as Claire?” he started as he continued on the path looking for any signs of shelter, ”Or do I have to give up the goods before you’ll give me the 411?” he added in case she was curious about his origins. It wouldn’t be fair if only she talked anyway and if he had to give her a story or two before getting one from her well then so be it. He was more than willing and perhaps telling such stories would help him stop thinking about the pain in his body since he hadn’t completely healed himself before assisting Claire. Indeed, there was still a couple broken ribs, and a very hard to hide limp but since the woman was on his back for the time being hopefully it would go unnoticed. He didn’t have time to worry about his injures anyway; they needed to find some shelter so they could get a proper rest before attempting to escape this canyon. And maybe some food too, I’m freaking starving here, |
[/i] he mused, a rather loud growl coming from his stomach that he couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed about. [/style] [STYLE=font-family: trebuchet ms; font-size: 9px; color: #606060; opacity: 0.9; text-align: right;]MADE BY AYU OF BACK TO NEVERLAND ( x)[/style] [/td][/tr][/table][/center]

He was wrong. It was something to apologize for. Claire knew that he would say the same thing if she tried to apologize anymore so no further attempts were made to do so. At any rate he went on to explain that even though she had try to kill him he blamed the thier current situation on himself saying that he went along with the fight she had started instead of walking away. She doubted that would have done much as she would have most likely chased him down if he did try to leave. But what was done was done and there was no point in discussing "what ifs". He also said that just because she tried to kill him it was no reason for him to not try to save her life and especially the life of a beautiful woman.
Claire had to admit. This man was quite handsome as well. He seemed to be a laidback kind of guy but he could get deadly serious when he needed to. Their fight in the meadow and him working to seal up her wound were two good examples. He did seem to be a big flirt though. Normally she couldn't stand those types of guys but this was different. Maybe it was the blood loss, maybe it was the fact that he saved her life. Whatever the case may be she found his flirting tolerable at least.
[red]"You've had survival training too huh? That's good. I maybe not be able to do anything but I know a few things about surviving too... Felix."[/red] The name seemed to suit the man well even if his last name was a name she had only seen in old cartoons and books. It wasn't a bad name, just one that she never expected a real person to have.
Claire watched Felix as she crouched down and examined her wound. She watched his expressions and apparently he decided that she couldn't move on her own, which was accurate, he lifted her up, trying to get her on his back. She did what she could and grabbed onto his shirt and tried pushing herself up with her good leg but even that leg was hurting quite a bit. Once she was somewhat upright she held out her right hand and called her chakrams back to her one at a time and put them back on in their holders on her back. Once they were secure she hopped with her good leg, letting out a small yelp of pain in the process, so she was higher up on his back and then wrapped her arms around his neck careful not to choke him. She hated feeling like dead weight and she knew that the extra weight had to be putting pressure on whatever injuries he may have but what other choice did they have? Once she was on Felix's back securely he started talking again. He said that they should find some shelter until he can find something that would tell him where his ship would be and that if she saw anything to let him know. He said in the mean time that they should get to know one another better and that talking helps distract from the pain of their wounds. Claire couldn't really dissagree there. She was skeptical when he said he was interested in hearing about her and asked her what it was like growing up though. Why would he want to know about her? Maybe to find weaknesses? Maybe to find something in her past that he could use against her?
Claire closed her eyes tight. [red]"Stop it."[/red] She thought to herself. She didn't think he would save her just to find something to used against her later. That sounded more like something she would do. Anyway, she felt like she owed him some cooperation in light of recent events.
[red]"I didn't have a good childhood. From a young age I stole, I killed, I did everything that you'd consider bad. I worked as a runner for a crime family. They would give me money or goods to deliver to a client and I would take it too them. One day I was given a package with at least 500,000 gil in it. I was their number one runner so what reason would they have not to trust me with that much money. Anyway I decided to take the money and run. I took a train to a far away town. They tracked me there but I escaped. Balamb garden took me in and that's where I learned to fight. Everyone hated me there. Everyone except the headmaster. He was like a father to me. But even he couldn't do anything to stop the hell I went through. The other students, even most of the faculty hated me so I hated them right back. Eventually I left and I've been on my own ever since. I've fallen back into my old ways of stealing and killing and other things ever since."[/red]
Claire had no idea why she had shared so much so fast with Felix. She just started talking and couldn't stop. She had a dark past and there was no point in sugar coating any of it. Best to lay it all out so he could the true nature of the monster he had saved. Sure she wanted to live but there was a small part of her that still thought he would have done the worlds a service by leaving her in this dark jungle to die alone.
Whatever his reaction to her story was she rested her chin on his left shoulder and closed her eyes, waiting for him to say or do whatever his morals and personality would dictate.

Well it wasn’t like he needed all the finer details anyway; he could fill them out easily enough using deductive reasoning after he listened closely. And that he did, his attention focused on the words escaping her mouth as she told him about her childhood, apparently a runner at a young age. It was a dangerous job to have at such a tender age and he could only imagine the things she had seen or had done. Depending on the job she could be running either just a simple package filled with money or perhaps a bomb that an unsuspecting victim took. Well that’s what he assumed anyway as he highly doubted that a small girl could kill with more direct methods such as fighting. Whatever the case, it would seem that she lived this lifestyle for quite some time before growing tired of it and when given the chance ran. Yes, apparently the thugs looking after her had trusted her with a large sum of money to deliver, a rather surprising thing to hear. Those types were often very careful to avoid such scenarios so it was a bit shocking to hear that they had trusted her to deliver. On the other hand it could have just been the one mistake whatever mob boss had made as everyone does make mistakes no matter how careful. Regardless, she made her daring escape to Balamb, a town if he recalled was on Archiplageo or whatever it was called, it was irrelevant. They managed to track her down but she seemed to slip through their fingers yet again, a thought that made the freelancer chuckle a bit. After all, it wasn’t often that stories of betraying a mob ended happily so to hear that her story did end happily was a relief. Because soon after that story ended a new one began, Claire was taken in by Balamb Garden, a facility that trained skilled mercenaries from Felix’s recollection. He had never been there but it would explain why she was well enough in battle although perhaps a bit inexperienced from what he could gather. Regardless, it would seem things weren’t all peachy at Balamb Garden either though; apparently everyone there despised her except for this Headmaster person. She didn’t go into detail but considering she was using the word “hell” to describe the experience he highly doubted it was anything short of terrible. Most likely shunned and treated cruelly by her peers, she probably developed this rather abrasive personality of hers which probably didn’t help much either. And then she left rather suddenly one day, perhaps tired of dealing with all the negativity in that place and became a wanderer of sorts. A wanderer and a loner, she had not a soul by her side to keep her company or help her when things were tough and unfair. A victim of circumstance, having been forced into being a runner and then forced to run away from the closest place she had to a home. She hadn’t said it but considering she had worked for a mafia family the red-head could only imagine that her relatives were long past. She had no one to keep her safe from harm nor anyone to depend on in times of great need when she didn’t know what to do. Or perhaps that was just his overactive imagination but either way he couldn’t help but feel sorry for what she had been through. The freelancer was by no means a terribly compassionate person who cared for others but he despised the fact that people could be dealt such shitty hands in life. Indeed, Claire had no say in the matter and had been simply born into a situation where she was forced to work for a mafia family and leave her “home”. All because of the random roulette of fate had she been given such a hand unlike others who were far more privileged and born into cozy lives with no worries. Had she been born at a different time, on a different planet, or to a different family her life would have been incredibly different and she wouldn’t speak with regret. It was faint but he could certainly hear it in her tone and it tugged at the strings in his heart as he could empathize with the girl rather well. ”I see,” he started, not exactly sure what to say at the moment in regards to her past and decided to detail his own first, ”Well it’s not exactly as terrible as yours but my past wasn’t all that pleasant either, I was born into poverty from the get go. I was lucky enough to have a loving father and mother but love certainly doesn’t pay the bills and even food was hard to come by. Going a couple days without food wasn’t that uncommon and we often had collectors stopping by the house harassing my parents for their due. Sometimes they didn’t even have the decency to come to the house; they would catch them when they were out looking for any kind of job. Needless to say, having a bill collector come by when you’re asking about a position somewhere doesn’t exactly reflect very well on your character. It was a harsh living and being the poor kid didn’t exactly make others envious of you at that young age, quite the opposite really. Being picked on, made fun of, even beaten up wasn’t all that uncommon either and when you haven’t had food for three days it’s hard to fight back. Despite all that though whenever I came home my mother and father would always greet me with a smile and I kept trekking forward. It was hard but I kept at it and well now here I am 6 foot 2, 180lbs, and a money-hungry freelancer who will do damn near anything,” he spieled, also revealing far more than he expected to. He wasn’t sure why he had done so but once he had started the words seemed to just flow out of his mouth naturally and he couldn’t really stop it. No, his lips kept flapping as he seemed to open up his heart to a person he had only met twice so far as if he had known her forever. Perhaps it was cause the situation they were in that the mask he normally wore, that of a lovable goof, wasn’t holding to his face. It was just the two of them after all and perhaps because they had both been dealt a crappy hand in life he felt a little bit of a connection. Indeed, they had both been thrust into a terrible situation and had dealt with it differently yet still feeling pangs of remorse over it all. Or at least that’s how Felix felt, he couldn’t be 100% certain how Claire felt about her actions and her life but he was self-aware. He knew that there was one thing that made him question the way he lived his life, a detail of his life that he hadn’t revealed with his earlier story. Before the thought could fester in his mind though he shook his head lightly as he sighed, a small smile curving against his lips as he took notice of Claire. As it would seem, she had rested her head on his shoulder, feeling the warmth of her chin through his battered clothing that helped put him strangely at well… ease. He wasn’t exactly sure why but it was a pleasant feeling and now that he had said his piece he believe he had an idea of what to say to her. ”This is probably going to sound rather strange coming from a guy like me but I’m here for you,” he started, his voice soft, ”I’m not sure if it means a whole lot to you but I just want to reiterate what I said earlier, I’m not leaving you behind not now or later,” he added, a bit embarrassed at the last two words that came out of his mouth, blood rushing to his cheeks, ”Err I mean we’re in the same boat you and I, both dealt crappy hands from birth so it makes sense we should stick together ne? We’re victims of circumstance, I don’t believe what either of us have done in our lives is wrong or right it was just what was necessary to survive,” he added, trying to hide his obvious embarrassment. It was quite odd coming from him as he was normally incredibly confident but even he had his moments and he had just opened up to her. It was only natural that he got a little bit embarrassed isn’t it? He certainly wanted to believe so and he would attempt to shift his head to the left a bit in a rather futile attempt to hide his darkening cheeks from view. In fact he was so flustered that he didn’t even notice the cave on the left that they were approaching despite it being his idea to search for a suitable shelter.

So Felix's childhood, while not as bad as her own, was still filled with hardship. While he didn't have money or as much food growing up he still had a family. Headmaster Cid was the closest thing to a father that Claire had ever had but even he couldn't fill the role perfectly. Long ago Claire had decided that a family wasn't a good thing that only slowed a person down and clouded their judgement but maybe that was becuase she never had one. Regardless, that idea was so ingrained in her that she doubted anyone could change her mind. She kept it to herself though. She didn't want to make it sound like she was insuting Felix's family which would not be her intention if she did speak about her opinion on that subject.
[red]"I guess you did have it pretty rough. At least you still had your parents. Mine died when I was very young. I don't know how, I don't know why. I can only guess that they were murdered which in the city I grew up in that could be a very likely scenario."[/red] As Claire finished speaking she spotted a cave coming up on the left, her chin leaving Felix's shoulder as she tried to get a better look. [red]"Felix, over there to the left. It looks like a cave.[/red] She said as she pointed over to it.
Then Claire closed her eyes and her chin tooks it's place back on Felix's shoulder. [red]"You want to be there for me? I've heard that before and it ended up as a lie every time but... you've also done more for me than anyone else has with the exception of a couple of people so I suppose I can try to believe it again. If it ends up as another lie or if you do leave me behind I will find you and I will kill you."[/red] It was a serious threat even if the exhausted tone in her voice indicated otherwise.
[red]"I guess you're right. Poor street children should stick together. I know the other runners and I did. And even though I've stolen and killed to survive, sometimes I just did it because it was fun. And before you say anything I know that's twisted and messed up but I don't really care. Some people play an intrument or sports for fun. I kill.[/red]
If they were going to spend time together then he needed to know just the kind of monster tha he had chosen to associate himself with. Whether this made him back away or if he was indifferent to it didn't really matter. She's been alone her entire life and she could be alone now. Even if here was a part of her that didn't want him to leave. That part scared her but it also filled her with a hope that she dared not to let in ever. The hope that there was someone who could accept her for her, the real her. Even if the real her was a chakram weilding recrational serial killer.

Indeed, he was still trying to hide his red cheeks which seemed to work or at the very least weren’t mentioned by the beauty on his back. Grinning sheepishly, he let out a nervous chuckle as he mouthed an “Ah you’re right,” surprised that he didn’t notice it earlier. Normally he was a rather attentive guy although to be fair he had quite a big distraction on his back that was occupying his thoughts. He had said something incredibly embarrassing yet surprisingly enough it seemed that she was far more receptive of his statement that he had originally anticipated. His expectations had been for her to blow him off and say something like “I’ll be killing you later anyway,” or something to that degree. Instead he got a rather sincere response as she nuzzled into his shoulder again, claiming that she was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Well at the added stipulation that she would kill him if he betrayed her but that wasn’t all that surprising coming from Claire. ”Hehe well I would never lie to a woman so you needn’t worry about that, I’m a man of my word if nothing else,” he stated, a small smirk curved against his lips. He had planned to say something else but before he could it would seem his red-headed companion would preempt him and continue speaking. He listened closely allowing her to finish although he hadn’t planned on interjecting when she had instructed him to not say anything. Indeed, what she said to him wasn’t all that alarming to him, if killing people was her hobby than that was her own business not his. He had already killed a few people himself so he was no saint and to criticize her about it would just make him a giant hypocrite. If there was one thing Felix despised it was hypocrisy and while he wouldn’t kill someone for “fun” he wouldn’t dote on someone who did. Unless in self-defense the freelancer didn’t believe murder was ever justified so as far as he was concerned he was just as bad as Claire. He killed for money, she killed for sport, whatever the reason the end result was the same, a life was taken and would never return. ”Come on do I really look like the kind of guy that would criticize someone because they have different hobbies and pastimes than I do?” he started shaking his head, ”While I can’t say I understand why you find murder fun I can accept that you’re different from me and that you enjoy different things. I’m not exactly the embodiment of good will and intentions either so far be it from me to say you’re weird just because you like to slay the occasional bystander,” he explained, now finally making his way to the cave, ”Plus the way I look at it I’m not going to dislike or shun someone just cause they’re different, I enjoy meeting people with different outlooks. You can learn a lot more from someone that’s different than you and while we both had rough lifestyles we both ended up differently. It would be a damn shame if I decided to not associate with you just because of that little quirk of yours, it be foolish. Maybe I’m insane for thinking that way but I don’t plan on abandoning my convictions and the same goes for you, I won’t abandon you,” And with that rather lengthy spiel finished followed by a small chuckle, the freelancer would stand in front of the cave a relieved smile present. It would seem they finally had found some shelter and he imagined that trying to get out of the canyon in the morning be easier. Indeed, it was surprising that they had even found this cave in the first place with how dark things were; it was hard to see one’s hand in front of their face. It was also a bit cold so making a fire would be prudent once they got in the cave and that thought alone made the red-head anxious to get inside. But before he so much as took a few steps he began to hear a noise that seemed to fill up the entirety of this rather spacious cavern. He raised an eyebrow at this, pondering what the noise was but it wouldn’t take much longer to find out as he reached the end. It seemed rather unbelievable but inside this cavern was a rather large looking primate, seeming to be in a deep slumber. His teeth gritted at this poor turn of events, having hoped that the cave would be unoccupied or at the very least by an easier to deal with creature. Shit… neither of us is in any condition to fight this freaking giant gorilla, |
[/i] he thought, taking a step back as he closed his eyes, It sucks but will need to find somewhere else to-[/i] and before he could finish that mental statement the beast seemed to have woken up and gave him a rather welcoming greeting across his chest. Indeed, the creature had formed a fist and had slammed it against Felix’s chest; the red-head only having a moment to jump back to reduce the impact. Despite that quick thinking, the pain was immense and his entire body had been sent flying out of the cave along with Claire on his back. Landing on his feet, he barely managed to prevent himself from falling backwards as he groaned in pain, wondering if his collarbone had fractured with that attack. ”Fuck,” he started as the beast lumbered out of the cave and he coughed up a crimson liquid, ”Looks like escape isn’t exactly an option here now. Well I’ve never had it before but I certainly hope gorilla meat tastes good, what do you think Claire hehe?” he asked in a joking tone. Letting her down gently, Felix would stand back up as he began to crank his neck and limbering up as much as he could. Well not that it would do much good, he didn’t have much energy left right now, he felt absolutely drained and about to fall over. Indeed, the allure of falling over and taking a nap was incredible but he had given a certain someone his word just a few moments ago. Staring down the giant gorilla, the freelancer managed a cocky facial expression despite the pain before cracking his knuckles and parting his lips to speak. ”Alright let’s see what you got you damn dirty ape, I hope it’s more than just cheap shots,” he taunted as he waited for the beast to make the first move. Indeed, after taking that shot he was having a hard enough time staying conscious so going on the offense was impossible and so was using Manipulators. It was quite the pickle the red-head found himself in but he couldn’t fall down, he had something more important than his convictions to stand for. If he fell down he was certain that those giant monkey arms of death would snuff out Claire’s life rather easily considering her injury. Perhaps he could flee and escape that fate himself but without a doubt if he were to leave her behind he would never live it down. Whatever the case, the giant beast soon made the first step as Felix had hoped and attempted to bring down a balled fist and crush the freelancer with it. Slipping to the side of it, the red-head would narrowly evade the attack and in one swift movement slip the katana on his back out of its scabbard and strike. Putting his weight into the blow made it rather effective, a rather giant rip across the gorilla’s flesh being produced that would begin bleeding profusely. It howled in pain loudly as it attempted to then swing its arm haphazardly at the freelancer and simply bash him away with sheer force. Although such a reaction was something the freelancer had expected and ducking down to the ground allowed the arm to pass by his head barely. Right after it passed, he would spring into action once more and impale the beast in its stomach another loud howl of pain being made. Not wanting to stick around for another counter-attack, the freelancer immediately backed off, leaving the blade inside the gorilla as opposed to taking it out. Such an action felt too risky to him and this intuition was proved correct as he once again barely avoided being grabbed by the beast. Despite being relatively little movement, the freelancer was already winded by his actions and in great pain himself due to the blow upon his chest. If this creature managed to get a hold of him or strike him once it was likely he would be knocked unconscious if not dead. The stakes were incredibly high for this gamble given the current situation but despite that the freelancer still managed to put a cocky grin on. After all, he had just made a promise to a certain observer of all this and he didn’t need to worry her by showing the great pain he was in. ”Do you want yours cooked medium-rare or well-done when I get done beating this guy?” he joked although even he couldn’t completely hide that it was a bit forced in his tone, Damn that fucker sure packs a punch,[/i] he mused as he pondered how the beast would respond next.
