Even Roxas had to admit that. He liked the way the ocean swept up the sand, carried it away to foreign places, and lapped it up again in an endless cycle. The way the sun hit the world just right--where it wasn't too hot, not too humid--and left the beach sparkling, was quaint and pretty. The seashells, which he found himself looking at now, turning one in his gloved hand cautiously; were exotic and colorful. He let the sea breeze toss his hair, letting the blonde strands hang loosely over his exposed head. His hood was down, flapping in the wind. Here, he did not feel the need to hide.
This world was a second home. Or, at least, meant to be. This was Sora's home--and he had all his memories tucked inside his skull. Here, Sora learned to walk. He played among the seagulls and kicked up the sand. Riku beat him countless times right on this spot, made sure to make him cry sometimes so he never forgot. But Sora always tried again and kept a counter in his head. Sometimes, when Sora was really lucky and Riku was tired from fighting the other kids, he would win. Sora 1, Riku 0.
Roxas wished the memories would shut the hell up.
He thought once he pushed Sora away, became his own person again despite the consequences, the memories would fade away. That he would forget the moment Kairi became more than just "one of the guys" or the rivalry against his best friend. But the memories thrived inside his head. They raged and danced freely and he could nothing to stop them. It wasn't the first time in his life he felt helpless. He could remember the first time, with her in his arms, death greeting her smiling face--
No.
Maybe that wasn't the first time, with all things considered. Maybe the first time was looking at Sora as he slumbered and knowing his life was over. How many times had he proclaimed that? My life is over! He could distinctly remember he made the proclamation when Olette forced Hayner, himself, and Pence to finish their homework again. My life is over, |
[/b] he had grumbled to no one. Yet, his life continued on in that stupid fake world. Until he came upon Sora and his life had truly come to an end. Everyone had made the whole "becoming whole" thing sound like a grand idea. They promoted it like a cheesy ad on TV, waving the word "whole" around like a new fad. Xion had willingly done it. Now where was she? Dead? Namine had mentioned it passively, as if the idea had been stuck in her head and she didn't know how to quite get it out. Roxas had believed them all. He had walked up to Sora with his arms wide open, defenses down. And when he was crammed inside his head finally, when he was no longer himself, but "whole", the voices wouldn't shut up. Sora had a whole auditorium full of people inside him. Roxas had sulked inside Sora, peering through his eyes at this very beach. Talking out of his mouth and spewing out the optimistic garbage Sora was famed for. The only moments he had to come out were few and far between, each a battle in itself. Too much thinking. He was always thinking too much. He clenched the seashell in an angry fist and then chucked it out to the ever-moving ocean. He was feeling so much emotion in that moment, that he could swear he felt a heartbeat. And Perhaps Roxas did feel a heartbeat. With all that the little Mouse known as King had learned recently, It was very likely Roxas might have had a heart, something beating within his supposedly empty chest. Sora had told him soon after returning exactly what Xemnas had told him, that Nobodies, as shells without heart, physically were an impossibility, and subconsciously sought for a heart to dwell within. Perhaps each Nobody held a heart in them that they did not know of. Perhaps even Roxas had one that dwelled within him. With how much he looked like him, perhaps the heart that dwelled within the Nobody of Sora was in fact a part of Ventus. Ven... it had been so long.
Still, Mickey had come to Destiny Islands only to see if Sora or Riku were here. He doubted it, but it was their home, and they both were his friends. Even Kairi would be good to see, but it seemed none were here. He had arrived via gummiship, and therefore worse his normal red and white attire, but he had hoped to spend a bit of downtime with his friends. If they weren't here, then what oint was there? Well, at least Destiny Islands was always a beautiful place to go, and always relaxing to sit. It had been why he was standing on the wooden planks overlooking the ocean, and why when he saw the figure that had arrived, stayed where he was until a decent time.
It might have been risky to try and make communication with Roxas, but Mickey knew Yen Sid needed as many warriors of light to defend it as possible. Roxas may have worked for the Organization, but there was good in the boy, Mickey could feel it. He was the Nobody of Sora and looked like Ventus. SURELY that had to mean something! Granted, Sora had surprised him at first by looking like Vanitas... but appearances were deceiving. And Lea too, he was helping, right? He was for the Light? Of course he was.
Mickey stepped a few feet into the sand behind Roxas and smiled. “Stone and shell skipping's a little different than that,” He said, reaching down to pick up a smoothed over enclosed shell, then flicking it out across the ocean after stepping beside Roxas, the shell bouncing once, twice, three times before descending. “But it's easy to do and learn.” He said, turning his gaze to Roxas with that bright, trusting smile. There had to be good in Roxas, right?

Of course, the Nobody knew who he was and felt a wash of warmth and concern overcome him. They weren't real emotions, just strings attached to memories. He was feeling what Sora would have felt--an endearment of sorts toward the King and a fierce need to protect him.
Roxas closed his blue eyes for a moment and pinched the bridge of his nose as the memories swirled inside his chest. It was so annoying. The way these memories played with his mind. Roxas didn't hold any particular emotion to the King. He was neutral, following his own path that he built out of seashells and ice cream sticks. Suddenly, he wanted an ice cream more than anything.
"Yeah?" he said quietly as the injustices ran through his mind.
Being trapped in a world that's not real. Making friends that were made of particles rather than blood. Being in an Orgnization that killed his best friend and then, after being caught, told to go into Sora and the world would be a better place.
"I know why you chose him," Roxas said.
He bent over and picked up a shiny pink seashell, still not meeting Mickey's eyes. The weird thing about this whole situation is that they had never met personally--he knew him only from Sora's memories. The strangeness of it all rubbed Roxas the wrong way.
"But why not me?" He finally finished.
He tilted his hand slightly and tried, in vain, to skip the seashell like Mickey. His, however, flopped into the water messily, which only frustrated the blonde more. [/classy][/classy][classy=boring"] - MICKEY <3 - CRAP POST. SRY!! D;[/classy] |

Mickey has personally never interacted with Roxas, but he had heard about the boy before. From Di... Ansem the Wise, from Xehanort, and from Riku and Naminé. The boy had been special. Despite the claim Nobodies lacked a heart, something Mickey was beginning to suspect false, this boy had from what others told him, acted very much like he had excess of a heart to give. When around him, Lea had claimed the boy gave him a sensation of a heart. Naminé too had said just as much. Gosh, to think Lea was training with Yen Sid now. Hard to believe, but stranger things had happened, and Mickey was slowly learning more and more his misconceptions of everything that were construed.
“Yeah. Hold the shell between your thumb and pointer, like this,” Mickey said with a smile, picking up another shell and demonstrating. Whether Roxas looked or not was not up to Mickey, but he hoped the boy would. Even just this sidelong glance at the boy gave such a familiar and odd presence. He'd once told Sora, how after spending time around Xehanort's Heartless and his nobody, Xemnas, that is sort of felt like being around the same guy, and gave him the creeps much like Xehanort, Ansem's top Apprentice, had. Only now was it beginning to surface to Mickey that the Ansem's Apprentice Xehanort had a familiar feeling that wasn't just the Master Xehanort, but also an old friend... Could it have been Terra?
“When ya toss it, most of the action is in the wrist. Flick it,” Mickey said, demonstrating again for Roxas if he cared to watch. Once more the shell skipped, but this time only twice before diving. “It's also a lot about the shape of the shell or pebble. Some of the roughest ones won't glide, but the smoother ones are much more carefree.” Mickey tossed another glance and bright smile to Roxas, hoping to get through to the boy. Much as with Xemnas, there was a deep familiar presence about Roxas. It did indeed feel like being around Sora, but it also felt like being around Ven. All those years ago. How many was it now? Must be almost fifteen years now since he last saw Ventus, Aqua, or Terra. Fifteen years, and yet this Nobody of Sora's, Roxas, looked almost exactly as that young boy Ventus, who had so much light and trust in so many, because he literally had no darkness to stain his heart.
“Gosh. You feel so much like both of them,” Mickey said aloud without real thought, only then realizing that Roxas had asked a question after making a statement. Why had they not chosen him? Mickey shied away, a frown on his face and sadness in his eyes. “I'm not sure how to answer that Ven—I mean Roxas. You're a part of Sora, but you're also a part of more than that. More than I think even you realize.” Mickey looked up to the boy then shook his head. “Kinda wish I had some Ice cream right now. That'd probably fix some tension. Maybe Sea salt.” The king smiled at that, looking up to Roxas and hoping he'd at least find enjoyment in their like in flavor. Lea had at least mentioned that.
“I think so Roxas... you're not a real nobody. I don't think you lack a heart. I think you've had one all along, deep inside you.”
