It was after the event in the book world known as 100 Acre Woods that Riku easily accepted the Light’s embrace and let it transport him to his new destination. As he was swept from the safety of that book world, he held within him new determination. He was going to find out what he could about the remaining Seven and try to keep himself in a position to play barrier for whatever plans Xehanort may throw at the worlds. Already, he knew the enemy was ahead in this game, but that did not matter. He was used to fighting against pressing odds and coming out on top. He could work in the background and help undo well laid out plans. He had done it before and he would do it again now.
He would remain always the protector of Sora and the others until the day he and his key were no longer needed in the worlds. Until that day came, he would take his heavy burden with him and do the best he could when it came to this war that rested on the horizon. As for the others that were involved in this complicated web, he would simply have to trust them to do what they could on their ends and just prayed that when the appointed time did come, they could face Xehanort’s forces on equal ground. The future weighed heavily on the young Keyblade Master, but even so he did not let it weigh him down too much. Instead, he turned the heavy weight into something only solidified his resolve in completing the task at hand.
Perhaps it was this strong resolve that caused the Light to drop Riku off where it did. Or perhaps it was another factor that caused what occurred to occur. What was known was that when the Light finally did release Riku, he was standing beneath a moody grey sky in the center of a bridge that had taken heavy damage from the wars it had seen. Behind him rested the woods dark and quiet while ahead of him rested the large and intimidating structure of a cursed castle. As Riku took in the jagged towers’ tips and the gargoyles that guarded the dark and forbiding structure, he identified the place as Beast’s Castle. It was a location he had visited in before in the past when he was doing what he could to help Sora with Organization XIII that was led by Xemnas.
It was ironic, how he should be in the same spot today doing the very same thing he had been doing back then, but against a different Organization XIII. An organization he could not get close to like he had done with the last. This new Organization that aimed for the Seven Lights to start the Keyblade War knew him well enough and so would be able to weed him out if he tried to get in under their nose. Even if the others of the Organization had not known him, Ansem—no Xehanort’s Heartless… he would give him away thanks to the unfortunate connection he shared with that Darkness.
Working undercover wouldn’t work this time fully this time, but that did not matter. Whether or not anyone else knew it, Riku had a plan that he was already setting in motion now that he was thinking clearer than ever before. His encounter with Isa and some other plus much needed rest was enough to set him back on the right path and brought him to his decision now. He needed clues as to where the remaining Seven were, but also had to make sure that the alternate Seven Lights were safe. While he did not expect to be placed in a place of such opportunity so soon, he was glad the Light was finally working with him instead of throwing to him to who-knew-where with a vague purpose for him to discover. The change was welcoming.
As Riku stood a moment longer on the bridge where he had first fought and defeated Xion, he took in the damaged state of the castle feeling his heart sink at the sight. He wasn’t sure what exactly had visited the world, but he could see the results of the battle that the presence had brought with it. There were new holes in the place and the aura of Darkness was seeping out of the world itself like a bitter perfume. The place was a mess on the outside, meaning the inside could be hazardous; however, it was inside that Riku had to go. He could sense the powerful presence of Light coming from within the castle and the Darkness that inhabited it now. He wondered if maybe that Light belong to the Princess of Heart that usually resided here or if this light belonged to someone else of with Light in their Heart.
Curious and a bit anxious as to what he would find, Riku made his way across the bridge and into the large structure to begin his search for this Light that he hoped was indeed the Princess…..
