A Corridor of Darkness opened swiftly inside a placid white room, deep within the confines of the Castle. From out of its depths stepped the darkly attired form of Vanitas, who instantly scanned the room for any signs of life. Potential threats could have possibly been lurking within the halls of the mysterious altered Land of Departure, and possibly could have been aimlessly wandering its confines for answers to its purpose. Fortunately for the Dark heart there were none, and so he stepped forward to press his hand against the wall, which provoked a fluctuation in the air before it. As the physicality of the wall contorted, a pair of door handles appeared, revealing to the Masked Boy the entrance to the Chamber of Awakening. No living soul aside from himself knew where to find the hidden room, save for another whom Vanitas knew would surely be dead by now. At least he hoped the annoying girl was dead, to say the least. With a slight tug at one of the handles, they did not move, and it assured him that it had not been disturbed.
A sick grin spread beneath the shroud of his opaque mask, as darkness overtook his form once more, allowing Vanitas to enter the Chamber itself. It was only a mere passing of seconds that he felt a swell of negative emotions overwhelm his being, for the sight of the empty throne before him sent the darkness of his heart into a turmoil. "How!?" he began abruptly, yelling into the Chamber as his voice reverberated off the walls. His hands balled into fists as the frustration and desperation grew, to the point that Vanitas began to feel an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. 'How is this possible!? He was asleep when I left, the doors are still shut! How could he have escaped without any assistance!?' His mind began to race with anger, and wild thoughts, thinking up any possible explanation to his missing other half.
His mind instantly turned to Aqua, thinking that she had something to do with Ven's absence from the Castle. Almost as soon as he entered the Chamber, Vanitas reappeared outside its walls in the hallway once more. A violent crack emitted from his neck as he threw it to one side, and another came as he brought it to the other. His senses flared up as he began to search his feelings for Ventus' light, aiming to seek him out and confront his other half to prevent an escape. Vanitas could not summon Unversed to perform this task for him, as he knew that he was not strong enough to manifest stronger breeds. The likes of Flood or Archravens couldn't find him soon enough than himself, and so he disregarded the idea. This was a matter more personal than anyone could understand, and the use of underlings would only serve to delay the inevitable confrontation that needed to happen.
This Darkness has
overcome your common sense
Be honest
Impulsive actions made a mess
This Darkness!
Like a fire burning red
So vicious
A heartless monster not a man

[attr="class","ff"] [attr="class","fff"] NE [attr="class","ffff"] NE [attr="class","fffff"]STAR BURNING BRIGHT IN THE SKY JUST FOR YOU, JUST FOR YOU Man, what was up with this place? It seemed like no matter far he walked in either direction nothing changed at all. He could keep going up, and he could keep going down but that wouldn't change the color of the walls. That wouldn't make the rooms suddenly have something within him, and it was because everything repeated itself endlessly that Ventus found himself lost. It was amazing he had even managed to get out of here the first time, how was he going to manage it this time? He was only here because he thought his friends might have bothered to come check up on him, but so far he hadn't ran into anyone from his past. It was upsetting at first, but this was Ventus and he didn't let it eat away at him for too long. No. He kept moving forward hand traveling along the wall as if doing so would help him remember this location from the next one he would stumble across. It was all such a useless effort, but he refused to give up hope.
Why had Aqua just left him here? Out of all the places she could have chosen to lay his body to rest why did she choose this castle? This confusing castle that had to make anyone roaming within its halls feel so empty on the inside. That's what it reminded him of, emptiness. If those were his thoughts while here they surely had to have been Aqua's and if they were why leave him? He knew the answer as to why, he would have gotten in her why. He was sleeping, having done his part for their story. Oddly enough this castle did feel familiar, not from the memories of others but from his own. It was like his heart knew something that Ventus's mind didn't. He could only sighed as he removed his hand from the wall and stopped his feet from moving, his head looking up towards the ceiling.
"Years later and we're still doing the same things aren't we guys? You're both out saving the worlds, and I'm stuck chasing after you. Always the little kid." it did feel like everything was the same as it was back then, and in a way it really truly was. Granted this time he didn't have Vanitas dogging him like before, trying to force him to forge the X-Blade. That ship had sailed, and hopefully the darker half of his heart was gone forever. Destroyed when they clashed within his heart. Childish thoughts. Life would be too easy if it worked like that. The blonde gave a shake of his head and began to move once more, he wasn't going to get anywhere standing around and thinking about his past.
This place had a weird way of making him do that, forcing the memories within his heart outward. Is that why Aqua chose this place? Would it throw anyone off his scent. Questions to be answered when he finally met with the girl. As he wandered further through the halls of the castle his foot steps echoing through its hallways, he couldn't help but feel a sudden presence nearby. A familiar one, and it felt as though it was calling out to him...asking him to come near. He didn't fight against it. Something he probably should have done. He followed the call with ease, rounding corner he didn't know existed and making his way through doors he hadn't seen before. All pulling him towards a very familiar hallway with a very familiar door, it was the one that lead to the room he had been asleep in. Why here? What had lead him here? It didn't take long for him to figure out what. Standing in front of the door clothed in his dark attire was Vanitas. Looking as if he had just rolled right out off Ventus's memories. "You...what are you doing here!? I thought I got rid of you!?

It wasn't long before that all to familiar presence made itself known, and much to his surprise, Vanitas felt it drawing itself closer to his position. For once in his life Ventus was not being hunted, but rather seeking out the Darkness that used to reside within his heart. Perhaps the blond didn't recognize it at first, but Vanitas knew who it was the second he felt it cross his senses. It had been far too long since the pair of them had been awake, and despite their decrease in power, Vanitas could feel things slowly begin to feel as they were suppose to once more. Though with the lack of need to seek out his other half, the Masked Boy had to admit that this was becoming easier than it had been in the past. He didn't have to draw out the would be hero with his Unversed, and curiosity was doing his job for him. Not that he didn't enjoy causing chaos and pain for others, having reveled in it for far too long at the orders of their Master, but this allowed him to save his energy for the moment to come.
The fight within their Heart in the Dive didn't go as planned, and he had failed to absolve Ventus to create the X-Blade. Though Vanitas knew that he could always learn from mistakes, and adapt to situations just like the Master would. This was his chance to prove to both the Old Man and Ventus that he was the superior of the two, and that he was the one who should be in charge of their joined form. The true wielder of the X-Blade was Vanitas; the true power of the combined opposites laid within Vanitas's half of their heart. He knew this, and Ventus knew full well what he could be capable of. The possession of the blond's body had been proof enough to the misguided youth's friends, and were it not for Ven's relentless denial of their destined purpose, it would have been a success. Though Vanitas was robbed of his perfect victory, and they both fell into the decade of sleep at the hand of Ven's ignorance.
As much as Vanitas refused to admit it, he needed Ventus alive, for no amount of promises from Xehanort could nourish and silence his sense of nostalgia. His pain and despair were caused by their separation, and so long as they remained apart, Vanitas would continue to live inside that torment. The Unversed would continue to be born from his negative experiences, and the evil inside that had corrupted his heart would remain the victor over his desire for it to end. Deep within the chaos that resided within Vanitas, he longed and wished for it all to stop, though he could not bring himself to say or express this. Xehanort had twisted him beyond logical reasoning, to the point where the Masked Boy acted through impulsive, sometimes irrational behavior. To subjugate and bend Ven to his will was more practical than to simply reason with the boy to make him understand. To dominate and control was his objective now, and had made things far more complicated than a simple longing to rejoin his other half.
The sound of footsteps eventually came to his ears, and soon a shadow appeared upon the placid white floor feet from beyond his presence. The Masked Boy stepped away from the doors of the Chamber of Awakening to the center of the room, and awaited the inevitable. As Ventus rounded the corner and came to a surprised stop before him, a sinister, purely evil smirk spread across the face of his dark haired other half. It remained unseen behind the black glass of his mask, but it would only prelude a dark chuckle upon the boy's reaction to the sight of him. Upon hearing Ven's words of shock, questioning his existence, Vanitas let out a sick laugh that reverberated throughout the hallway. "Still as clueless as ever. Here I was hoping the sleep would have at least given you common sense." taunted Vanitas as he spread his arms to gesture to the hall they stood in. "I suppose I was asking for too much, you're still an idiot." The Masked Boy lowered his arms as he began to slowly strafe in a walk around his other half, never once taking his hidden eyes off his biggest rival. From what he could tell, the boy was still the same in appearance as he had been the last he saw him, though they were both slightly older than before. Vanitas aged parallel to that of Ven, bearing a piece of the same heart, and it was easy to tell that the blond matured physically like he had.
"Light cannot exist without Darkness, Ventus. I would have thought it obvious by now."

[attr="class","ff"] [attr="class","fff"] NE [attr="class","ffff"] NE [attr="class","fffff"]STAR BURNING BRIGHT IN THE SKY JUST FOR YOU, JUST FOR YOU Just looking at Vanitas was enough to send Ven's emotions for a spin, enough to cause things he hadn't felt in a long time emerge from the depths of his heart. He had to keep his body shaking from the anger he was feeling as he looked into the blackness of his other halfs mask. The dark chuckle, that had once tormented his mind so long echoed through the hallway. His body tensed as Vanitas took a step forward, and began to speak taunting him with words. Clueless huh? Is that what he still thought? That after all these years of sleep he was still just a little child to be toyed around with for pleasure? No. He wasn't. He wasn't going to fall for any of the games Vanitas and his Master might have planned. "The only idiot here is you. Showing yourself was a mistake, you should have stayed in hiding like the little Nobody that you are." so mean, the words were different than anything Ventus had spoken before. They were filled with an anger that was almost abnormal to be seen from the youth, it betrayed his youthful appearance altogether.
Why was he here? That was the question he needed to be asking himself, if Vanitas was showing himself something must be coming. The dark being and Master Xehanort surely must have had something planned and it required Ventus. No, they wouldn't risk something like that so soon would they? The other Keybladers were on guard after everything that had happened in the world of sleep, too risky to make a move now. Then why? Why show himself now of all place, or was this simply a meeting of chance. Vanitas began to circle around Ventus and the blonde felt as though his counterpart was looking at him as form of prey. Toying with his food huh? Ventus wasn't about to be his meal. He let his eyes follow Van as he moved around him, not once allowing them to move from him. He was a trickster after all no telling what he had planned. "So that's why your here? I woke up so he you had to wake up too, of course. I'd be asking for too much to have destroyed you completely that day." he moved forward letting himself step outside Vanitas' little circle.
This place really did bring out blasts from the past didn't it? So annoying. So bothersome really, he wasn't sure he could handle an actually fight with Vanitas right now. He still wasn't at his full strength from having woken up, and that could prove troublesome. Though if he wasn't as strong surely his darker half was still weak as well. He'd have attacked by now if that was his game plan, maybe something else was going on then? Ventus let his arm fold against his chest as he glared at the darkly dressed figure, "What exactly are you planning? I doubt you came here just to talk, and you already know I'm not about to join with you." if he could keep him talking perhaps Ventus could come up with a plan, something that didn't just involve swinging his Keyblade around aimlessly.

As much of a surprise as Ventus's little retort was, it did nothing to phase the resolve of the Masked Boy. Vanitas simply continued his radial prowl around the blond, their eyes never once leaving each others as though Ven could see through the darkness of the mask. He was perhaps the only one who could anticipate the actions of the face beneath it, yet he was also susceptible to the enigmatic appearance. In the past this boy had fallen prey to every ounce of bait that Vanitas had laid out for him, and he knew all too well which buttons to push to draw out his reckless behavior. The impulsive anger that sparked regrettable action was something they both shared, yet Vanitas felt he had better control over his actions than Ventus did in those situations. It was what he felt was but one of Ven's many weaknesses, where Vanitas believed he had none, and became blind with arrogance. It was his pride and over confidence in himself that usually led to his downfall, but those moments only led to fuel his aggravation and negative emotions, which he fed on to only make himself stronger.
He remained passive to the accusations Ventus continued to throw at him, as he ignored the boy's naive suspicions about the Dark Master's plans. He only knew what he remembered, and Vanitas wasn't sure if Ven had been awake for long at all. It was something he couldn't ascertain, yet he suspected that Ven was feeling the same regarding himself. Perhaps from Ven's perspective he believed Vanitas had only just appeared, yet the truth would reveal far much more than he was letting on.
Ven knew nothing about what his dark half had been up to, nor did he know anything surrounding the nature of his travels outside this castle. A scoff could be heard from beneath the helmet as Vanitas came to a stop behind Ventus, and stared him down for a moment. The Masked Boy was curious to know just who let the dog out of its cage, but he was certain the truth would reveal itself in due time. He was never a patient individual unless circumstances called for such practice, and unfortunately this was one of those moments in time. Vanitas knew that their separation from the boy called Sora was an opportunity for a second chance, not just for Ventus, but for himself as well. Here they were once again, existing alongside one another, just as they did before the day at the Keyblade Graveyard. Only now there were no restrictions or orders preventing the unpredictable from happening. There were no commands to be given here, no tasks to be fulfilled.
It was just Ventus, and Vanitas.
There were no bothersome lackeys that carried ulterior motives, nor were there any annoying friends to get in the way of their meeting. There was no inferior old Keyblade Masters telling either of them what to do. They now had all the freedom they could care for to settle their differences if they so wished, but that was only if they set aside their pride and viewpoints they so strongly carried with them. The truth would go unheard today once more, and Vanitas would continue to carry his undying pain another day. Golden eyes narrowed as he continued to stare down Ven, taking in his appearance as he simply stood there in silence. Perhaps it was intimidating, perhaps confusing, but it only added to the strained air in the room between them. The leather of the Masked Boy's bodysuit creaked as he began to walk around the left side of the blond wayfarer, while he took his gaze off the youth to gaze down the hall toward the Chamber of Awakening. Were the arrogant brat's friends somewhere inside the Castle? He doubted that they overcame their victimization of Xehanort's actions against them within the time of their slumber, so Vanitas convinced himself that his suspicion of the pair being alone to be true.
They were indeed alone.
"I'm not here under orders of the Master, and I've been awake for weeks before returning here. So tell me," Vanitas turned his gaze from the Chamber of Awakening to the bright eyes of his other half, and let the smirk behind his helmet disappear; his hidden face now an unreadable expression of near emotionless. "Who woke you up?"

[attr="class","ff"] [attr="class","fff"] NE [attr="class","ffff"] NE [attr="class","fffff"]STAR BURNING BRIGHT IN THE SKY JUST FOR YOU, JUST FOR YOU He had to stop the surprise form showing on his face, unlike Vanitas he had no mask to hide the emotions he displayed as they arose. He could only do his best to fight them back a skill he had little practice with doing, but it needed to be done. Letting Vanitas see anything other than his anger could prove to be a problem, he knew how to play on Ventus's emotions. How to string him along like a little puppet, and force him into acting without so out so much as a second thought. Luckily Vanitas wasn't the only one who knew how to play to the others weakness, the man before him had an unending amount of pride such a thing had been his downfall and it likely would again. Who was to say that Vanitas hadn't grown like Ven had though? The chances were slim but he couldn't rule out that possibility.
He had been awake for weeks though? Weeks!? That meant he had woken up long before Ven himself had, the kind of chaos Vanitas could have caused within that week sent a shiver down his spine. Why hadn't he awoken when Vanitas did? Had someone pulled the dark warrior out from his slumber but managed to keep Ven asleep? Who aside from Xehanort could have that kind of power? It didn't seem like Xehanort had done it though, Vanitas appeared to be working on his own this time. In a way that made Ventus slightly more afraid. It meant that Vanitas had no one holding him back anymore, that he was free to do whatever he wanted without worry of his actions resulting in some form of punishment.
Ventus was just as alone though, no friends here to back him up. No one to pull him free from Vanitas's grip if the worst should come to pass and he ended up becoming one with him again. If that did happen would he be able to assume control this time? He was a lot more sure of himself now than he had been on their first rejoining. That alone didn't assure him control though. Vanitas was strong, even in his likely weakened state he could possibly still overwhelming Ventus for control of their body. What the hell was he going to do? He let a small sigh escape from his lips and shifted his position, this time instead of allowing himself to remain stationary he was the one moving around. He needed to take control of this situation, so far it had just been Vanitas playing him with his words while Ventus wrapped himself inside of his thoughts.
Who woke him up huh? Vanitas had no idea that Ventus awoken of his own accord, perhaps he could use this to advantage no? "Don't know? I bet that's a first for you. Me knowing something that you don't." Ventus allowed for a small chuckle to escape from his lips and his feet stopped moving. He was standing in front of the door which lead to the Chamber of Awakening, and he let his body leaned against it, arms folding as he stared at his darkness. "It was Aqua." he spoke with the utmost certainty in his voice, he couldn't run the risk of Vanitas finding out he was lying.
"She woke me up a few days ago and told me that I was needed. I've been traveling with her the past couple of days if you must know, she's here right now." he grinned, "Probably looking for me, I did run off on her." would he fall for it though? That was the question.

The words that left the brighter half of the Masked Boy were intriguing to say the least, yet they did not sway his resolve. As Ven moved t lean against the doors of the Chamber beyond, Vanitas followed the blond haired youth with an intense gaze, never once letting it leave the form of the weaker half. While Vanitas still saw him as the naive, broken tool that he had been used for Master Xehanort's plan all those years ago, he had to admit that there was something different about Ventus this time around. He was not as timid as before, not as lost and confused regarding the circumstances that bound him to the ebony haired Keyblader. He was more bolder in his responses, and carried an attitude that radiated a matured demeanor. It wasn't enough to prevent Vanitas from clearly analyzing just what the blond wayfarer was aiming to accomplish here. The little punk wanted answers as much as he himself did, but Vanitas wouldn't relent to openly explain everything to him. As much as part of him wished to beat the stupid smirk off of his face, Vanitas continued to hold back his aggression, and instead listened attentively to what his other half spoke.
When the name of the blue haired liability left the lips of Ven, Vanitas bit his lower lip for a second, then turned his body in full to bar the path down the hallway. If Ven wanted to leave this place, he would no longer be able to do so freely, so long as Vanitas stood between the boy and his exit. There was only one way out of the Castle now for the wayfarer, and Vanitas knew what would eventually come to pass. Unless he grew bored of this meager conversation, he would not be leaving Ventus alone to simply escape again. The negative emotions welled up inside him, and the anger that had manifested upon his first sights of the empty throne began to come back into play once more. The mere mention of Aqua brought his hidden expression into a dark scowl, and provoked Vanitas to take several steps toward Ventus before stopping ten feet from him. If it weren't for the meddlesome bitch, then their union would have been achieved, and then they would possibly be wielding the X-Blade by now.
Though in hindsight, Vanitas considered the other side of the coin with this perspective. Were it not for Ven's stupid friend, he would still be blindly obedient to the old coot Xehanort, and not free to do as he wished as he was now. As much as the anger inside wanted nothing more than to eviscerate Ven, to leave him broken upon this placid white floor, he was well aware that destroying his other half would also mean his own destruction. The only true victory over him would to be to force another union of the two, and one that Ven had no escape from. Though without Master Xehanort holding him back now, Vanitas was free to do whatever he wished to accomplish this means, and he wasn't sure if Ventus was aware of the severity this could pose for him and his friends. Something else also told Vanitas that Terra and Aqua were in more dire straights than before, and with the way Terra had gone down the path he was led, Vanitas knew for certain Xehanort accomplished his goal. If this were true, then there was no possible way Aqua would have been left to simply hide their unconscious body with repercussion.
A dark chuckle escaped Vanitas as he recalled the memories passed between Ventus and Sora during their time harbored within the boy's heart. Everything that Roxas had experienced transferred to both Ven and Sora upon the Nobody's reunion with his Somebody, and the memories were bound by the chains that connected them all to Sora. Vanitas knew what had transpired in the Realm of Sleep just as much as Ven did, and he knew all too well what became of the possessed Terra in turn. Aqua was nowhere to be found, and neither was Ven's surrogate older brother, after being split into two at the hands of Xehanort. The five of them were forever connected; Sora, Roxas, Ventus, the unnamed raven haired girl, and himself. The memories were as vivid in his mind and heart as though he had experienced them all firsthand, and there was no mistaking that Ven experienced them too. One thing was certain though, the blond was lying to him.
"You're a terrible liar, Ventus."

EVEN IN THE HARSHEST DARKNESSTHE LIGHT NEVER LEAVES YOU The mere mention of Aqua's name was enough to evoke a reaction in the dark half of his heart, he stepped forward with aggression. Ventus got himself ready for whatever Vanitas had plan to do with that anger that boiled up inside of him, but something within his other half’s mind pulled him back. He stopped moving when at least ten feet of space made up the gap between them. "Still sore about that beating Aqua gave you?" he couldn't help but let the grin that was on his face expand a little bit more, he felt as though he had gotten some kind of victory over his shadow. Even if the victory was brief he had finally managed to be the one to provoke a reaction. Something that never happened in the complex relationship that Vanitas and Ventus shared, Van was always the one making Ventus act so rashly.
Still his anger towards the mention of Aqua was justified; she had been the one to stop him after all. If it hadn't been for Aqua's help during that battle at the Keyblade Graveyard the worlds would be singing a very different tune today, she had helped delay a lot of events from passing. If only she were really here now though. It would make this situation so much easier for him. She wasn't though and he had to accept that, besides Vanitas was his problem. The masked man in front of him was everything dark about Ventus; he was the living embodiment of every negative emotion bottled within his heart. Sure, he'd love to have someone like Aqua or Terra handle this for him but he couldn't. He had to grow up at some point and a large step towards that was dealing with Vanitas on his own.
"What's so funny?" what did Vanitas have to be laughing about? Shouldn't he be worried about Aqua? Unless...did he know she wasn't here? The thought of Vanitas having run into Aqua during the time he was awake crossed Ven's mind and it scared him. The chances were slim but perhaps they had ran into each other and he had dealt with her? No, if that was the case he wouldn't have reacted so angrily towards the mention of her name. Something was up though, and Vanitas soon made it very clear. He was calling Ven out on his bluff, or at least attempting to. He couldn't allow himself to fold though. Vanitas couldn't really be so sure Aqua wasn't here and hopefully Ventus could play on that.
"Sure, you can assume that I'm lying but what if I'm not? That means you're letting your guard down and at any moment Aqua could coming running around the corner to find me. Ask yourself who all knows about this room? Just me, you and Aqua. She's the only one who could have woken me up, because we both know you certainly didn't." Ventus took a step forward, closing the gap between the two of them even more. His arms unfolded from his chest and he brought his right hand behind his back, and with a brilliant flash of light his Keyblade appeared within his grasp. He knew Vanitas wasn't going to just let him leave and unlike his other half he couldn't just teleport out of worlds. He only had one way to leave this place and that was through Van.
Would fighting him cause the X-blade to forge though? He doubted it both of them were surely too weak to try merging again and besides he had feeling Vanitas wasn't done having his fun just yet. "I'm going to ask you to step aside so I can go look for Aqua, but I already know the chances of that happening are slim." he let the grip on his Keyblade tighten. Castle Oblivion was about to feel the clashing of two powerful forces once more and one only knew how much chaos that would cause to the world. Ventus was ready, ready to put Vanitas in his place for the day.

The Masked Boy merely continued to observe his Half of Light, and let the boy finish his shallow ruse, as well as his attempt of trying to fool him into believing Aqua was here. Vanitas knew full well that she wasn't, but why would he let on to Ventus about that bit of knowledge? Now that they were separated once more, the blond would be unable to see into the memories of Vanitas to know just what transpired over the past few weeks. At the same time there was no possible way that the punk had come to realize that they possessed memories of the others, that they were linked to Sora's heart still through a chain of memories. The last moments of their fight had brought Vanitas to true despair, and he actually gave into fear at the very thought of non-existence. Though due to Ven's wish to not fade into obscurity as they were destined to do upon that day, they both survived as they took shelter inside Sora's heart as a single joined entity.
Though Riku had freed Sora from his sleep, he only managed to awaken the pair of Ven and Van from their imprisonment. During the decade that they remained sheltered within the Key to Everything, Vanitas took his time to regain his power, and used it to bide his time until he could escape into a physical manifestation once more. He had taken it the first chance he got, not long after their heart returned to Ven's unconscious body. Surely the boy would have felt the missing presence inside himself whenever he woke up? That apparently wasn't the case given his evident surprise and anger upon seeing Vanitas alive again here today. Were they both only stronger than they were now, Vanitas surely would force another reunion upon his naive half, regardless if he really was telling the truth about his meddlesome friend or not. Though he wasn't going to reveal everything he knew, not when he clearly held an advantage that Ven knew nothing about.
'So the punk thinks he stands a chance right now?' thought the Dark Enigma to himself, as a tug formed at the corner of his hidden mouth. This was becoming all the more amusing with every passing second, and Vanitas even let another small chuckle escape his lungs when Ven proclaimed he was letting his guard down. The Masked Boy raised his arms out to his sides, as if to gesture to the air around him, unaffected by the hypothetical threat of attack. He knew fully well that Aqua wasn't here, and that they were alone within this shell Castle that used to serve as Ven's home. "I don't seem to be threatened." he replied sarcastically, letting his arms lower once more as the leather that bound them creaked ever slightly. The ball remained in his court, and the Masked Boy didn't even flinch whenever the blond summoned his Keyblade to his hand.
As much as he would have loved to extract revenge on Aqua for the last time they met, Vanitas knew he was going to have to wait until he actually came across the girl, that is if she was still alive. For all he knew about her current presence, Xehanort could have cast her into the Realm of Darkness, and left her there to fend for herself. Not many would be able to trump such a feat and live to retell such a story, and given how naive Aqua had been at times, he doubted that she was up to par for such a fate. It was a pity that Ven depended too heavily upon others for help, but it was also what made him such easy prey for his more superior half. The pride and misplaced confidence that Ven was beginning to exude was entertaining, but Vanitas knew he could still be broken. The pair of them needed to strengthen their power to their former heights after all, and it seemed that Ven was eager to leave this room already. Vanitas could feel the sensation of fear welling up from the other's physical presence, he could feel the overwhelming feeling that told him Ventus was uncomfortable. He had every right to feel that way, to summon his Keyblade and look for any way to escape a confrontation with his Darkness. Facing the true manifestation of his own fear, his own negativity, was something he was to naturally be afraid of. It was truth to its very core, and Vanitas relished in it.
The Masked Boy nodded to Ven's Keyblade as the boy's fingers tightened around the hilt. "Is this your idea of intimidation?" he taunted, just before he pivoted his right foot back a step. His right hand extended outward as a light with purple tint overtook it, just before Void Gear appeared clenched firmly in its grasp. The dark Keyblade was raised above his head, and his left hand rose as Vanitas took his signature stance. Vanitas was prepared to begin the trials of strengthening the boy for the next reunion, and this time Xehanort's plans would not get in the way of his methods. He would make him stronger again, and this time his friends would not stop their acquisition of the X-Blade.

EVEN IN THE HARSHEST DARKNESSTHE LIGHT NEVER LEAVES YOU Who was he kidding? Of course Vanitas wasn't going to be scared by the thought Aqua MIGHT come running around the corner, he needed far more proof than just Ventus's words. As the darker half of the two he had a leg up on things when it came to lying, and when Vanitas made it clear he wasn't feeling threatened Ventus knew he had made a minor mistake. Minor because he felt as though he could still turn this entire situation around, but that might just have been his own version of pride getting the best of him. The masked boy in front of him let out a small chuckle and dropped his arms to his sides as he stared at Ventus from behind his mask, he didn't even flinch when the Keyblade made its appearance. Of course. He had only caused his other half a moment of unsettling and that just ate away at him slightly. Why couldn't he just be better than him? Was that too much to ask for?
He didn't need to be thinking like that, if he let those thoughts start to build up Vanitas would have already won this game. Ven needed to remind himself that he was stronger now; he was wiser and more mature than he was in the old days. Vanitas might not have let anything show but surely he was getting to him in some way, he had to be. No one no matter how tough they acted could be unbreakable. Ventus had seen proof of this first hand with his best friend and brother Terra and even Aqua to some degree, everyone could have their walls broken and torn down...Vanitas just required more work than some. He couldn't help but wonder what thoughts were coursing through the man's head though, what was he thinking as he stared at Ventus unmoving.
He was probably thinking of ways to break him; he must have thought it was going to be so easy still. It wasn't. Ventus wasn't going to allow himself to fall victim to anymore of Vanitas's traps. He didn't need his friends to help him with this man anymore. He was old enough and strong enough to handle the darkness himself, and if Riku or Terra could do it so could he. Did he think he was afraid? Ventus could feel fear within himself, but the anger he felt right now overwhelmed it. He wasn't about to let fear stop him from acting, and he couldn't let anger control him either. Vanitas finally spoke as he watched Ventus' grip on his Keyblade tighten, he was still mocking him. "It's my idea of a promise." the words escaped from his lips without so much as a second thought, and as they did he prepared himself for battle once more. The dark Keyblade Vanitas wielded appeared within his grasp in a haze of darkness and just looking at it made Ventus's stomach turn, Van didn't have the right to wield a Keyblade.
Neither of them made a move though, both just stood perfectly still looking at each other as if stares were going to win this battle for them. Ventus would be the first of them to act however. His Keyblade began to glow faintly as he allowed the very energy of the wind to build up inside of it, a light green aura finally becoming very present on the blade. His actions were swift as he tossed the Keyblade towards Vanitas...or so it would have seemed. The Keyblade went flying past him, and Ventus let himself appear as though he was upset. He wasn't though. Wind Raid allowed the Keyblade to bounce against objects on its path towards its target and it began to do so. Recoiling from wall to wall as it made its way towards Vanitas's back; Ventus didn't allow himself to just stand motionless either. He rushed Vanitas, his shoulder aimed to slam straight into his body.

This person before him was trying so hard to hold back the tides of doubt and uncertainty it was far too amusing to not ignore. For every moment that passed, the blond's reaction's were observed on a very intense level, especially when put in contrast to the memories that now surged through Van's consciousness. It was curious to compare how much Ventus looked like the boy in the memories he never experienced first hand. The two were so much alike it was sickening, but there was something that Vanitas came to pride himself on. There was unlike anything like himself in the worlds, that much he was starting to become certain of. There was no other being he knew that could simply create living negativity from its emotions, to command a physical army of one's own manifested pain. Ventus might have felt he was strong in the past due to his friends, and the power that those people gave to him. Sora was no different. Though these friends were nothing in power compared to The Unversed, whom were capable of giving birth to stronger breeds upon their demise, and were extensions of the will of their Progenitor.
They were a force the worlds trembled before until their untimely disappearance, and were beyond the likes of Nobodies and Heartless alike. While the others to have swept the worlds over could be commanded or swayed to a directive, The Unversed were the only species to truly know control. They answered to nobody but the Progenitor alone, with variant orders carried from the source through established lieutenant entities. They did not carry out randomly assigned tasks for a overlord, but rather worked under tactically superior orders from their creator. They were above the others in regard that they were the embodiment of emotions, and could actually feel and experience the thrills of loss or accomplishment in their tasks, whereas the Nobodies couldn't feel anything, and the Heartless were too impulsive to care. In truth The Unversed shared everything that Vanitas felt, and vice versa; it was as easily a curse as it was a blessing. They experienced every failure on the road to the Keyblade Graveyard, they had experienced their defeat alongside their Master as a whole.
Did Ventus's precious friends feel and experience every amount of pain, anguish and mental torment he went through during his journey? Vanitas didn't think so, and if that was the truth, then how could they provide the blond any strength whatsoever? They did not share his pain, his glory, his struggle to overcome his trials. So what then could they provide for him if they knew nothing about what he endured to stand where he was today? How did he become stronger simply by believing in something that truly wasn't there to begin with? His so called friends were not here to help fight like The Unversed were for Vanitas, so how could it be that Ven would be able to fend off The Masked Boy this time? Aqua and the Mouse King weren't here to fight off the demons Ven would try to repel, and there was no possible hope for escape. Though they could not properly join and fuse since they were not at the Keyblade Graveyard, Vanitas was more than confident a brief spar would be enough to put Ven back into his rightful place. Once he was beaten back into his proper order in the world, he would be easier to lure through another trial of challenges, with more powerful Unversed lying in wait to truly test the blond's fortitude.
Vanitas leaned to his right as Ven's Keyblade sailed by him, and past experience already told him that the weapon would return. "You still don't stand a chance," The Masked Boy wasted no time to charge whenever Ven did the same, though whenever he was but a few feet from colliding with his other half, the dark suited figure vanished from sight. Ven's shoulder would only meet air and smoke when they would collide with what would have been Vanitas, just before the dark presence would reappear above the blond. "Now suffer!" With his free hand extended to aim his palm down at Ventus, a violent burst of ice erupted towards Van's target in the form of a Blizzaga spell. Before the opponent would have time to fortify a proper defense, Vanitas would descend with his gravitational momentum, and land upon the ground to the right of Ventus with a powerful diagonal slash aimed for the upper torso. Ice would burst around the pair as Vanitas would jump feet away from Ven, and ready himself for another defensive counter by taking his signature stance once more.

EVEN IN THE HARSHEST DARKNESSTHE LIGHT NEVER LEAVES YOU He probably should have seen this coming, Vanitas liked to play things shady like that. He was aggressive with his fighting style while also playing it safe by attacking with distractions. As his shoulder hit against the clouds of smoke Ventus reacted quickly acting both out of memory and on impulse, he spun his body catching his Keyblade in his left hand as it flew past him. The resulting spin allowed him to move behind Vanitas and narrowly avoid the full force of the third tier blizzard spell. The large ice chunks hit against the ground with enough force to cause them to shatter and the resulting shards were sent flying towards Ventus, who had little time to react to them. They cut into various parts of his body, and one even flew by and cut across his cheek. He winced as the wave pain coursed through him, but he could only be happy he hadn't gotten hit directly by the attack. The spin had done far more for him than just help partially avoid the blizzard spell; it had allowed him to fully avoid Vanitas downward slash.
Ventus tossed his Keyblade from his left to his right and then whipped away the blood that was oozing from the wound on his cheek. Light blue eyes narrowing with anger as he looked towards his dark half, "Lost your touch?" Ventus asked but it wasn't a question that needed an answer. Despite how he teased Ventus knew that his dodge had far more to do with luck than any actual level of skill, at least that was what he was telling himself. The blondes head looked over his shoulder briefly and took notice of the fact he and the dark warrior had just swapped locations. Now would be the best time to escape if that was what he really wanted to do, but something deep inside of him told him not to. He wanted to finish this fight, he needed to finish this battle. He brought his attention back towards Vanitas and pointed his Keyblade towards the sky. The hallway they were fighting in while long was also slightly narrow and restricted their movement greatly.
Ventus had just the spell to help him in this situation, and since it required the use of light it would surely damage Vanitas a great deal. Being made from darkness did have its fair share of weaknesses after all. "Magnega." shouted Ventus and from the tip of his Keyblade spawned a large sphere of light, that would start to pull Vanitas towards it. How well would he handle this? It made using that fancy footwork of his a little bit harder to do. Ventus brought his Keyblade up into a defensive position and then motioned for Vanitas to make a move towards him, "Where's all your bravado Vanitas?" perhaps playing this a little bit smarter would be best for him. What was it that Terra use to say to him? Let his body move him instead of him moving his body. Time to see if doing it like that would pay off for him.

The result of his Blizzaga upon the blond was not what he expected, allowing frustration to overtake his hidden features. As his teeth began to grit, and the grip on his Keyblade tightened, Vanitas could feel himself giving into the excess emotion developing from this fight. Ventus's misplaced confidence was beginning to annoy him, almost as much as the stupid smug look he had plastered on his face. Vanitas hated that about the blond, the sense of cockiness Ven chose to play off in hopes to fool him. This terrible liar was out to prove that he wasn't as weak as he had been before, but Vanitas knew better, and understood just how to deal with such misplaced pride. Though as the Masked Boy readied for another attack, Ven had already countered with his own.
An unexpected surge of wind and light began to pull from all areas of the small hallway, rising up above Ven's Keyblade to rotate in a circlet above the light half of Van's heart. Vanitas raised Void Gear in a defensive stance, hoping that putting its power between the spell and himself would be enough to hold off the third tier magic. Before he knew it Vanitas was pulled off the ground, and felt himself being pulled through the air towards the coalescing elements. The raven haired boy braced himself, and began to perform a variety of aerial maneuvers, while attempting to fend off the orbs of light that began to crash into his form, though they soon overwhelmed his efforts. After several seconds of being bombarded by the force of Magnega, dark orbs overtook the form of Vanitas, as he reemerged but a foot from Ven's personal space with Teleportation.
A smirk replaced the scowl on the Masked Boy's face, amused at the taunt the blond gave about his bravado. Without wasting a second on his chance to react, Vanitas burst forward while keeping low. Instead of lashing out with his Keyblade as he knew many would expect, he swept the weapon wide, and brought forward his fist in a punch aimed for Ven's diaphragm. He made sure to put forth a heap of negative emotion behind this blow, and gave it the force to ensure Ventus would surely feel it if it were to land. "Where's your friends?" he retorted, intending to pick at Ven's loneliness. Vanitas would then jump away from Ventus to land behind the blond, while twisting his body mid-flight to aim Void Gear toward the boy's flank.
Dark orbs erupted hastily from the tip of the Keyblade, and surged across the hall to converge and detonate on Ven's location with a violent dark explosion; Vanitas hoped his Dark Scatter Shot would be enough to force Ventus to submit to defeat. As the Masked Boy landed with his momentum, he knelt onto one knee for a second, feeling the effects of the Magnega spell taking its toll on his physical being. He silently cursed himself for allowing such a novice mistake to come to pass, and swore he would be sure to avoid that one in the future. Though the pain soon became pleasure as he relished its feeling, and a pained gasp from Vanitas soon became a maniacal laugh that reverberated off the walls of the hallway. He wouldn't show pain to the likes of Ventus, not when he knew that he was stronger than the blond. The boy was all alone, and where was the loser's strength without those pitiful hindrances he called friends? They were lost to Xehanort and the Darkness now, that's where. ~~~~~ Action List 1. Vanitas used Teleportation to escape Magnega 2. Van aimed a punch for Ven's diaphragm 3. Vanitas jumped away to fire Dark Scatter Shot from behind Ven [Vanitas has taken medium damage from Magnega]
Abilities Used/Cooldowns
Teleportation – Through the power of Darkness, Vanitas is able to willingly teleport himself around the battlefield, disappearing in a cluster of black orbs that fade into nothing following the usage of this ability. With this Vanitas is able to increase his speed dramatically where he can create images of himself that linger for a moment before seemingly fading away, after-images if you will. He often combines this effort with vicious combos and Dark spells, however it can be used by itself if necessary too. [2 post cool down]

EVEN IN THE HARSHEST DARKNESSTHE LIGHT NEVER LEAVES YOU The expected result had happened when Ventus casted his spell, the large towering orb of magnetic light and wind pulled Vanitas towards it with what Ventus assumed was ease. His darker half made no sounds of pain as the various orbs overwhelmed his form, crashing into his body. Vanitas was darkness and as such surely this powerful light would be enough to wound him so. Of course he knew better than to expect for just one small spell to be enough to end this battle, he had had gone against Vanitas before after all. Each battle was like a test of how far Ventus had come in his journey, and each one had pushed Ventus to his limits in trying to push back his darkness. He didn't however expect Vanitas to teleport away from the full force of his Magnega spell, and when he appeared in front of him Ventus had little time to react. The dark Keyblade Wielder swept his weapon to the side and it took Ventus by surprise. He had been expecting for his darker half to slash at him but was instead met with the full force of Vanitas's fist hitting into his stomach.
Ven's eyes widen in pain as he kneeled over clutching at his stomach and let out a cough a mix of spit and blood escaping from his mouth. He couldn't react to Vanitas's taunt about his friends, not with how much pain was coursing through his body right now. He did know that Vanitas wasn't going to stop his assault with just one punch. His other half wanted to get payback for the damage that Ven had done to him, and when he jumped into the air and behind Ven the blonde reacted quickly. He pushed the pain he was feeling aside and quickly slammed his hand onto the pauldron that was on his right shoulder. A flash of light enveloped Ventus's body as his armor began to take shape, at least this way Vanitas would have no access to his stomach again with his punches. While the armor did lessen the blow from Vanitas's Dark Scatter Shot, it couldn't stop him from taking damage. The various orbs of darkness slammed against Ven's armored back and let out a gasp of pain. Each one slamming against him was a reminder in his mind of just how much stronger he needed to become.
When the onslaught was done Ventus laid on the ground the back of his armor having been torn apart just enough to show various sections of his clothing underneath. He was taking deep breathes as he forced himself up and turned himself around to face Vanitas, "That, all you got?" his voice wasn't exactly oozing reassurance at the moment, but he wouldn't allow himself to be defeated by Vanitas. "No more holding back Vanitas, I'm going to show you just how wrong about me you are." the armored boy took a deep breath and as he did so a violent wind began to fill the long hallway. It blew with such force that the doors behind Ventus slammed open and clashed against the walls. It then began to coil itself around Ventus form, causing his armor to take on a faint green glow. The young man took a step forward as he spun his Keyblade around within his hand, the wind around him mimicking his actions and spinning with the blade. Ventus had activated his triumph card, Cyclone. He was at one with the wind itself right now, and until it faded he'd be sure to use its power to teach Vanitas a lesson.
Putting his full force into his Keyblade arm Ventus swung despite the fact he was a fair distance away from Vanitas, he didn't need to worry. As when he swung the wind launched itself forward towards him aiming to cut into Vanitas's body and Ven did this not once, not twice, but three times did he swing. Each one resulting in the wind launching itself towards Van, Tornado Strike and with the boost in power by Cyclone Vanitas had little option but to dodge it. Getting hit by even one of them would surely cause enough damage to end this battle, and if it didn't Ventus had other tricks up his sleeve.

Vanitas watched on as Ven struggled to defend against his attacks, and felt the smirk beneath his helmet grow more wider, more sinister as the seconds passed on. He relished in the pained grunts from his other half, as the blasts of the dark orbs began to subside. There was probably little in the world that could have brought the Masked Boy any more, of what could be described as a sadistic variety most people would call joy. The way Vanitas felt as he watched Ventus struggle to his feet was near indescribable, and could only be worded as a morbid pleasure the way he eyed the blond like he was prey. A few steps were taken towards Ven's position, while the blade of Void Gear was swung loosely by his side with each one taken. He was ready for this to be done with, for Ven to submit to defeat and give up this charade of prideful arrogance. Though Vanitas knew better, and suspected Ventus to give into his stupidity, to not give up because his precious friends would give him strength.
The Masked Boy gave a dark chuckle as Ven retorted, asking Vanitas if that was all he had. Maybe the years of sleeping had taken a toll on his memory, or perhaps he had hit him a little too hard. The Dark Half knew the blond was just being stubborn, refusing to give in, refusing to admit that Vanitas was better than him. This was not the place nor the time for either of them to join with the other, and Vanitas had kept this in mind for the entire time they had been here. Perhaps Ven suspected that this was all part of Xehanort's plan, and perhaps he was expecting the old man to show at any given moment. Though the truth remained that the pair were the only ones who knew this fight was happening, and The Masked Boy preferred it to be this way. He despised the idea of following orders now, given that it had done him little good in the past, and had stalled him from making his move earlier. Those orders ensured Xehanort the body of Terra, and what did Vanitas have to show for putting up with the old man for as long as he did? The X-Blade had been destroyed, while the arrogant schemer did nothing to prevent it from happening. Though who was to say the old man knew that the split halves would do battle in a Dive to the Heart?
This fight here before the fabled Chamber of Awakening was all for himself, not for Xehanort. That much he was reassured of. As Ventus stood he summoned his armor, which eclipsed his face and body in a bright flash of light. Oh that old trick; it wasn't as though it helped him much the last time they fought. As far as he could remember that helmet had been shattered by Xehanort's grip, just after Ven was blasted by frost. Fortunate for the blond that those things repaired themselves, but that did nothing to ensure their durability was improved. Regardless it appeared that the brat was ready for another helping of fist, so Vanitas brought Void Gear up into his signature stance once more. The Masked Boy didn't want to give the blond another moment to recover, and possibly mount his own attack, so he dashed forward at Ventus in an impressive burst of speed.
As Void Gear was brought up to perform a potentially lethal slash on his other half, Ven had swung his Keyblade in rapid succession. A sudden burst of wind caught Vanitas in his midsection, which ceased all his momentum as a sharp burn began to rise from the point of impact. Vanitas gritted his teeth as the force of the first Tornado Strike began to take its toll, seconds before he was violently thrown backwards by the second and third strikes. The Masked Boy hit the placid white floor with a hard crash, which cracked at the point of impact, before his body involuntarily rolled away from Ven. Metallic clangs rang out through the hall each time Void Gear collided with the floor, until it finally slid in a circular motion to rest near its owner. Vanitas laid on his back, and remained motionless as he waited for the sharp pains in his muscles to cease. This lasted for several minutes, and give an impression he had been defeated.
With little warning Void Gear disappeared in a display of dark fire, just before Vanitas kicked out his legs, then spun his body to stand upon his feet. He stood far enough now from Ven that another assault seemed purposeless, but his position still barred the blond from leaving the hall. Another dark cackle of laughter filled the colorless walls, which would give even the bravest of children chills down their spines. "I was right this whole time," he declared, as a Corridor of Darkness opened up behind him. Vanitas recognized by the attacks that a union between the pair of them was a long ways off, and that this was going to take some time before Ventus was ready again. That wasn't to say he didn't need some training on his own part, which wouldn't take long at the pace The Masked Boy was accustomed to. "You're weaker now after being unconscious for so long," mocked the Dark Half to the blond, spreading his arms out once more. The arms dropped as quickly as he raised them. "I'll be back when you get the sleep out of your eyes." The declaration of another encounter wasn't a threat, but a promise. Vanitas knew full well how to find Ven whenever he so desired it, so it was a simple task at most. With no more words left to give the blond, Vanitas turned to step into the Corridor of Darkness, letting it close behind his form. Vanitas has left the thread ~~~~~ Action List1.
