As the blade scored her back she grunted. That was the third time that she'd been cut during this fight, and it would assuredly be the last. Blood rushed past her ears, barely able to hear the roar of the crowd over her own adrenaline-addled body. She pushed herself out of the whirling sand once the bird-demon was flattened by the barrage of punches. Maybe she would stay down, but somehow, Elfé doubted it. Once she left the storm, she pat her clothes to shake the sand off, turning back to the sand and raising her fists, waiting for the girl to come into view...

Time was running out. Aerynn knew that if she did not rise soon to continue the fight, it would be considered a knock out and she would lose. The aegyl still had her consciousness about her, and as such, was not ready to admit defeat.
Her arms moved like wet noodles as she brought them to her side, reaching up behind her to grasp at the naginata still bound to her back. The process was slow and her grip weak, but somehow she managed to pull her weapon free before she dropped it in front of her. The sandstorm was still in effect, but the aegyl could see the winds beginning to slack, and she could make out Wander's dark clothing amidst the sand. The woman was still standing; the slash had not been enough. They had picked away at each other bit by bit, but Wander was stronger, and her last attack had near decimated the aegyl. Aerynn did not think she could win this battle, but still she had to try.
The thought occurred to her that what she was doing was sheer idiocy. It was clear to her who the better fighter was. Aerynn was only asking for more punishment from a woman who had a vindictive agenda against breaking her wings and leaving her dead. Dead like the family Wander had killed by her own hands. Perhaps she should stay down, admit defeat and keep her wings and her life, but there was something in Aerynn that prevented her from giving up. She didn't know what it was, but she knew … somehow … it gave her strength, steeling her resolve and the desire to finish what she started, to find herself and her placement among the elite.
Pressing her arms to the ground, Aerynn pushed herself up, using her naginata as a crutch as she stood on shaky legs. No weight was put on her bad ankle, swollen as it was and tight in her boot. Her wings, battered and bruised and bleeding, would not close properly, and hung awkwardly at her sides. They trembled as Aerynn tested them, but they were sore and weak and it was a fight to get them to register her commands. She gave up, letting them drop as they were. The aegyl had put too much strain on them, from Wander's initial attack that scored bloody lines down her plumage to their use in flight and protection. Aerynn was not sure they would be of much use to her anymore.
It didn't matter. She was standing now. She could still fight.
Her arm drew across her mouth, smearing the blood from her busted nose, and she watched as the sandstorm died completely, revealing Wander no worse than when she had last left her. Aerynn could see the crimson mark down her opponent's back, dulled by the sand and dust, but it had been a shallow slash and seemed not to affect her at all. With the sandstorm dissipated, it left the woman's sword free, and after understanding that Wander could throw her blade, Aerynn only hoped that it was left buried in the sand where she would not find it.
The aegyl squared her stance, putting light weight on her injured foot as she removed the support of her naginata to strike a defensive pose. Her legs buckled, but she held firm, and waited for Wander to see her standing tall and strong, her weapon raised and ready. She could not show weakness, not now. It would be her downfall.
Action Box!!!!!!!
Aerynn used: 1. Rise: Aerynn stood up somehow! Despite her grievous injuries, she is not ready to admit defeat, because she's a sucker for punishment. Cooldown: Dependent on Aerynn's energy and stamina! 2. Battle Strategy Assessment: Aerynn assessed her injuries and realized she's in a lot of trouble! Duration: So long as Aerynn can still process conscious thought. 3. Bluff: Aerynn masks her injuries and strikes a defensive pose, hoping that Elfé will not realize she will drop at the slightest breeze. Duration: Hoping to extend this into Elfé's post!
Notes Aerynn has: •Two slashes down her wings. They are battered and bruised and bloody and hang awkwardly at her sides. •A swollen ankle. •A laceration across her brow. •A busted nose. •A loose tooth. •Bruising everywhere.
