Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane was a bit surprised when bolts of lightning began to rain down onto the field. With the Gargoyle's defeated it left only the Blitz Spear behind, but it seemed he was not your ordinary fiend. The thief had no experience fighting Heartless and did not realize their most dangerous attribute was the random unpredictability that defied logic. Even a wild animal could be predicted! If an animal was not hungry, it was looking for food! Its territory was its pride and its family was something it protected dearly. But Heartless obsessed. They obsessed over getting back what they once were and though not their fault, neither was it the fault of those who wished to succumb to defeat. It was this that made Heartless truly dangerous, because where an animal would cease when it has taken enough damage, or fell and never raise again: a Heartless would fight to the end and only return a short time later, and in greater numbers.
The thief would spring back, his agility even greater in this form. Dodge Jump was a simple feat for him. If he was light footed before, now he looked to be gliding along the ground. A stray bolt caught him directly. He felt the fur on his body stand on end, as if the spiky coat could further bristle. He pulled back his daggers and looked over to Squall who further refused his game. The rogue could only grin, showing off those inhuman teeth. His body shifted as he lowered himself to manage his center of gravity. He pulled his blades to stand back behind him, the curved weapons turning toward the sky.
"Because taking a fight too seriously leaves you trying to mend a mistake." Perhaps he was merely teasing Squall as he healed his wound, the flesh stitching back together, but perhaps not.
He would push pass the thought that the fighter could actually use magic and focus on the enemy. Squall was tough. A few bolts of lightning could not stop them, right? He hoped. The thief called out in a teasing matter to Squall.
"Don't be scared! It's not so tough!" But the dent in its armor from taking a direct blow from Squall's attack spoke otherwise. "Watch me go!" Zidane shouted before he charged.
The thief was fast. The speed he could run on a flat plane was astounding. His lower center of gravity and his lithe form were perfectly built for running, climbing and all manner of acrobatic skills. It helped that daggers were light weapons and did little to hinder him. Zidane surged forward, that pink fur crackling with energy. When he reached out his blades to slash at the Blitz Spear he was in for a rude awakening when a volt of lightning shocked his system and sent him back several feet. A curse was freed from his lips as he pushed to stand. Smoke was clearly visible creeping from his fur as he shook his head clear.
"Damn!" He brushed his mouth with the back of his hand. "Let's ground this loser!"
Zidane stood and held out his hand as a strange flow of energy left his form. It was hard to ever see a guy like this serious, but he was passionate. In everything he said and did he would do so from the depths of his heart. So even if there times where he lied, and cheated and stole... he was still a good person outside the circumstances of his birth and how he was raised. He was not a monster meant to kill and destroy, nor was a hero made to save the world. He was just a stubborn kid that hated to see others bullied, always ready to help another in need. There was never a reason to question it. Why would you need a reason to help someone?
Markings drew themselves upon the floor, surrounding the Blitz Spear. The rune marks were illegible to any could not read Terran, but the power the marks held were truly ferocious. The ground itself began to rumble and loose its constitution before the ground shifted beneath. Air popped as a vacuum would swallow the Blitz Spear's footing, ruining its concentration, forcing it to drop its charge. Shift Break tore the foundations beneath it and caused it to stagger. The thief could feel the power of Trance surging, flowing out, and leaving his body with every exertion of energy.
"There's no time to think! Let's go!" Being that he was thrown back a considerable distance, he would depend on Squall to finish it.
Though the Blitz Spear took considerable damage, it was not enough to finish it off.

Squall couldn't believe how energetic Zidane was. The boy was just not worried about a dam thing. He moved so fast and eloquently. It was as though Zidane was dancing around the battlefield. Squall sure did like having Zidane on his side. Leon was somewhat motivated by his allies small words of encouragement. However, he was somewhat shocked when he saw Zidane get zapped by the counter attack of the heartless.
"Zidane are you ok?" Before the Lion could say anything else, Zidane had shifted the ground with some kind of runes and stunned the creature. With this enlarged weapon, how could he finish the Heartless off? Perhaps he should try to dispel the buff? Now that it came to mind, he never really tried that before. Why was he so stupid at times? Right now Squall really thought he was an idiot.
After taking a deep breath, he easily dispelled his Brilliant Energy. Now his LionHeart gunblade taking on his normal blue appearance. "Putting an end...to everything." Leon shouted while pointing his Gunblade at the Heartless, as he placed his free hand on top of his bicep. "Lion Heart!" With that word alone, he began to charge his gunblade with an ferocious reddish yellow energy.
Once the energy was at max, Squall began to charge at the Heartless with astonishing speed. Leon's movements were rather memorizing as he moved around the shifted ground. As he got into range, Squall knocked the Heartless high into the sky. Shortly after, he jumped up right after the armored Heartless. With that the Lion began his series of wild attacks.
As he made each attack he appeared to be moving all around his opponent making attacks in mid air. It really was a memorizing sight. Sure it wasn't as memorizing as Zidanes speed and swift movements, but this was Squalls way of showing off. The final strike was made with a lighting fast upwards energy strike.
Just as Squall landed the last strike ignited a small explosion. The armored Heartless had fallen hard to the ground. With that, Leon let out a small sigh of relief. However, he wondered why the body had not dispersed into anything yet. Was their fight really over? Or did its body disperse during his attack?

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane grinned widely when the Heartless' world was rocked by the shifting earth beneath him. The boy hooted out in cheer. When Squall seemed ready to go on the attack the thief grinned. It was pretty exciting, but his time was growing short. In the distance he could see the bleed drawing out along the horizon. Damn. If only they could have gone a little longer. At night he felt mot at home. He thought best at night. When the stars were twinkling and the clouds were gone he could best see the moon. He knew this was not his moon. The bright red and blue burn was missing from the starlit night. The sun was only proof he was out of time.
With a thunderous crash the Blitz Spear met the ground in a glorious cascade of destruction following in its wake. Blades of grass and billow of dust were thrown into the air. It was not long before the debris began to settle. All that was left behind of the Heartless was a small creator, the surrounding bricks that inlaid the courtyard: shattered to pieces. So it seems the Monkey and Lion made a good team. The thief brushed his thumb under his nose, that grip never leaving his blades' hilts. He could still feel himself trembling with excitement. A good adventure always left you shaking and wanting more. Zidane felt his heart relaxing, the burning fire that breathed life into the physical manifestation of his passion dissipated. His fur began to molt away in a show of light as the magenta strands of fur washed away with a passing wind and a flash of light.
When all was said and done the thief stood once more in his most unusual outfit. He holstered his blades and sighed out, rolling his shoulders and stretching the muscles in his neck. His hands came to settle on his hip as his tail slung down behind him and swayed in a calm, passive motion. For a moment the thief would blink and reach back into his satchel. He retrieved the shining, blue stone. Holding it up to the sunrise the glittering gemstone let off a mixing glow of cerulean and crimson. The thief tossed it into the air and snatched it out in a skillful motion.
"Ahh seems you won the bet." Zidane winked and tossed the gem to Squall with a smirk. "For luck. Keep it close until you find your treasure. The ladies love lapis lazulis." He gave a cheeky smirk and thumbs up, obviously not given Squall a moment to argue.
He reached back into his satchel to fetch something else. He pulled out, what many would recognize if they handled Chocobos, as Gysahl Greens. The rogue used his knife to cut into the greens as he walked toward the gate. With no more Heartless in his way he easily kicked it open and held out the greens to the sky. Zidane turned to look to Squall with a grin.
"I got enough luck. So I'm gunna head home and find my canary. Make sure not to let your sweetie pie wait to long. We don't live in a fairy tale. You have to fight for what you want, and take it." He spoke with such unwavering confidence.
Without determination, he probably would not have gotten far in life. Soon the clopping of heavy steps could be heard racing from the forest. From the breaking light a massive, golden bird raced toward the thief. With a laugh Zidane tossed the greens to the bird. The ratite was massive, especially when standing by a fellow of his size, but smaller than most Adult Chocobos Squall has probably seen. It did not have a saddle, nor reins. If not for the blanket over its back and the saddlebags. It looked as if Zidane had come with he bird on a long journey. He reached up his gloved hands to ruffle the cheek feathers of the energetic bird, who had gobbled down his snack with glee and gave a little hop, those dangerous talons easily able to gore a monster landed on the ground without brushing passed the thief.
"I got a little lost on my journey home, but I think I can find my way, so stay safe pal." Everyone had their own path to walk after all.
Zidane reached up to the Chocobo's shoulder and pulled himself up with practiced ease. He moved to tuck his legs under the wings and press his thighs tightly around the bird. The way his tail moved it seemed to be working to keep him balanced. The bird seemed to dance along with his movements. It was like the two were honed in with each other. Zidane patted Choco's head and moved so the bird dance around to face the road. It was a long road....
"I'll see ya later Squall. If you ever need me, just send me a letter!" He would laugh and give a wink.
He was not really impressed with Squall's combat ability, because he has seen a lot of strange mechanisms during the war and plenty of strange abilities, but he was really touched by Squall's determination. Not many had that these days. As he traveled everyone's heart seemed to be drowning in a darkness they could not fight. With that the thief would shift his weight and the Chocobo would slowly march down the road. As if they had all the time in the world to figure it out. He rode toward the sunrise, blinking a bit as he broke free from the darkness of night into the warm brightness of the day.
Heroic? Human? Those are just things people say after the fact. Why try to give meaning to what the main character of a story chose? . . . That was what I honestly felt at the time. A long time ago I wanted to be a hero of the story, but they called me a crook and chased me away, saying I could never change my fate. That I was destined to this life. I think we can all choose where to go and what to become. So I choose to be me.

Shortly after the defeat of the Heartless, Zidane had tossed a shiny blue gem his way. With ease he caught it, but slightly confused. "I didn't bet to anything." Leon said quite blatantly. It hadn't taken long before the Monkey boy had pulled out some greens for a Chocobo. "I won't let her wait any longer. We'll see each other later Zidane."
With that Squall watched the Monkey boy ride off on the chocobo. The only thing he had to do was get to the Gummi Ship. He borrowed one of Geppettos designed ships, but then had CiD spruce it up. Boy was he lucky he knew a lot of people. Leon took a short walk in a south east location.
Eventually, he found his Gummi Ship in the hidden meadow where he had left it. Just like that, Squall had hopped in the ship and flew off.
