Slender hands trailed over marble, as the Queen stood inside the royal chambers in Baron's western tower, her eyes moving over to the empty bed next to her, moving away from the window to sit down. It had been few months since Cecil left and she took a small break from travelling within worlds, to return to Baron and see through matters back home. Ceodore did a good job reigning in his father's stead, but there had been whispers of an uprising against the royal family. She knew that it was bound to happen, what with her returning to Baron alone and without her king. The rumour mill had been busy and Rosa shut her ears against the harshest of them all, locking herself inside the tower every fortnight, just to surround herself with Cecil's presence.
"Cecil, what should I do?" She whispered, feeling her eyes grow hot with unshed tears, yet she wiped them away before they even fell. It was her duty as queen of Baron to rule in her husband's stead; to be a pillar of strength against trying times. Crying does not have a place among it all.
She sat on the bed, reminiscing about the times they had together before a knock at her door interrupted her musings. "Come in," she said, her voice surprisingly steady amidst her inner battle and in came her handmaiden, smiling softly, "My Queen, entertainers from afar have come to our kingdom to hold a play for King Cecil's safe return. They said they wish you good tidings and asks if you will allow them to perform." This girl must have been sworn into servitude, Rosa thought, giving the young girl a once over before returning the smile in kind. The girl sighed in relief upon seeing the Queen smile again, "I am sure you will enjoy it immensely, your highness! Maybe the prince would too if he were back in time from Mysidia.
"I'm sure Ceo would, but you are right; I'm sure Cecil wil do the same...he wouldn't want his people sad over his noble endeavors. Very well, I shall go down shortly to give them my formal blessing, but in the meantime, please tell them that they are welcome to utilize our lands for whatever setting up they would need."
The maid bowed, not at all supressing her glee before going out of the chamber excitedly. Rosa couldn't help but manage a small chuckle, remembering the same tenacity from her youth, and it only brought more memories of her beloved King.
She found the strength to stand up, and, for the first time ina forthnight, Rosa left her room.

Jovial Prince of Thieves This world at least carried some familiar things. These heavily modern landscapes that plagued the other worlds left a sense of choking in his chest, like there was no where to go, but up! He wore a dignified uniform. He had come prepared. A fine, teal surcoat was buttoned down, allowed his extra frilly jabot to settle beneath the thick blue ribbon around his neck. His hair was pilled back, bangs a bit untamed and uncontrolled as he had done his best to knot his ponytail with a green ribbon to match the surcoat. He had lied, outright, to those at the palace gates. With him he had brought Choco who helped tug about his gear. It was not too heavy as to not overburden his friend.
The bird mount warbled at his partner, causing Zidane to look over with an arched brow. The thief smiled and pet hit beak. "Dontcha worry pal.... it'll be quick, these guys ain't so nice from what I hear, so if there's trouble: you get going alright?" Choco seemed reluctant, but Zidane was sure his friend could do it if had to.
He gave the bird a pat and motioned his hands to the guards. It seemed the visitor had to go to the bathroom. He was led inside to the washing room, escorted carefully. As he walked by, he inspected the inside of the Baron castle. There was plenty of nice things here, while people starved in the poorer parts of the city. He supposed it would always be that way: the rich geting richer and the poor barely scarping by and feeding their families. It annoyed him. After taking a moment to relieve himself, the thief honestly had to go. He was on a long journey. He peered outside of the washing room where the guards still looked. He sucked his teeth and pushed back inside. Looking around he found himself by the window. He opened it and looked down. It was a short drop to the courtyard.
No Problem.
With the grace and acrobatic skill lent to him by his tail and art the cat burglar shimmied across the edges of the castle sills. The rogue crept back in through a window further down the halls, unbeknownst to him, nearer the bedrooms. He dropped down and looked around. His tail had been hidden. So far none of these humans had either a tail nor had he seem signs of men like those back home with faces of dogs or the wings of fowl. The noble crook pushed to his feet and allowed the intrepid limb to slip from the tails of his coat. His pantlegs were neatly tucked into this mouths of his boots. The wide space guarded him from any questionable weight gain from pilfering goods. A trick he learned from pirates.
He smirked and popped his collar before neatly folding it back down so it did not clearly appear he was just out in the cold winds, shuffling along the castle's ledges. Fine suits of armor and vases only accentuated the paintings that hung on the walls. What could he pilfer? He was well enough dressed that a few maids to pass him as he admired the words, left him ignored. A few flirtatious advances kept curious minds on the poet's tongue rather than his fingers. He drew closer to a fine looking vase, just big enough to climb out with. Oh this castle was quite easy. The security was lax, many of the knights and guards toward the entrance and surrounding the courtyards to ensure none entered from below. Ah, but he come in from upon high.
A story, a flimflam. He had heard rumors spreading about the King vanishing and the Queen spending all the castle's money on vacations and trips in the stead of searching for him. Zidane had someone he loved and hearing such a heartless response to the loss of a loved one... irked him. Who could be so cold? These people did not deserve their riches anyway! It was a chance to test out his skill and help someone. Maybe if all these unnecessary trinkets were out of their hands, they could finally concentrate of recovering their lost love, but what if they were mourning? By the things he saw, he highly doubted this. Maybe seeing those kinds cry -- making that promise, was no good.
"Don't worry, I'll make sure to kidnap that mean old queen!" It had, after all, been seeded into their minds that the queen's spending and inattentiveness was to blame. Leaving the heir to the throne to watch and stand by as she destroyed the kingdom. He had sympathy for it, something so familiar.

Rosa was greeted with looks of sometimes shock, sometimes happiness, but most asked why she was out of her room. To these she simply asked if she was not allowed to walk inside her own home anymore, and it successfully silenced any other inquiries. She knew about the rumors, the unrest, and it pained her that the people she loved, the children of her empire, almost all did not have faith in their Queen. If Cecil were here they would not doubted her, they would not put her and Ceodore's bond through strain. But she had to be strong. She had to stay strong.
It was an incredibly beautiful day, and she padded her way towards the flight of stairs. She went down the tower, crossing the courtyard towards the royal chambers before noticing a shadow weave atop one of the turrets. She paused, her lips forming a tight line as she looked up, watching one of the banisters with tactical scrutiny, years of practicing archery giving her her hawk's eye. She knew there was someone there, and there should not have been; that is the king Odin's memorial chambers, none are permitted inside except for the royal family,
She veered from her course, pressing onto the chambers and telling the guards to let her cross. They thought it was odd but they knew better than question the queen, opening the heavy doors to let her through. The chamber itself is a large trove of treasure, housing the famed Aegis shield with King Odin's sword next to it. Her frown deepened when she saw the cloaked figure standing next to an ornate vase, crossing her arms to retrieve the mini-staff she always carried when she's home.
"I wouldn't touch that if I were you." She said, raising her staff towards him. White magic is restorative, but a good Holy can blast this blasphemous vagabond to smithereens. "Turn around slowly or you'll get hurt." she warned, her magic crackling on her fingertips, wondering who on earth is fool enough to steal from the Kingdom.

Jovial Prince of Thieves Now these beautiful gems did no good in the hands of such disgraceful nobles. He continued to inspect the area and took great care not to make a sound. But a mouse among the hateful whispers floating from the lips of nobles. When he continued his inspection, being sure that he would thoroughly rob these nobles blind, he would come upon the sacred artifacts he very well knew upon instinct he should not touch! but he would! Gloved fingers felt clammy beneath the thick gloves. The very thought of pilfering such useful artifacts delighted his fancy. It was not the objects themselves. The boy was not much of a weapon's enthusiast if it did not have anything to do with daggers, knives or any sort of thief's blades. Someone else may ind interest in it though and he could easily sell these for a ludicrous price, likely triple what they were worth!
When his greedy hands reached for the artifacts he could hear something outside of the area. Scuffling. It loks like someone was coming in. His tail flickered as he stepped back. His eyes turned to the artifact than back to the doors. It really was not worth getting caught just yet. The quick-witted criminal looked around and tucked his arms into his cloak. He hurried toward the window and leapt onto he sill where he crouched a moment and looked up and down. There was no time to think about it nor weigh his options. He jumped up, eh agile thief just as nimble as he was quick. But he was sometimes a bit les careful than he should have been.
When he jumped out the end of his tail bumped the vase he had been hungrily eyeing. He grabbed onto the edge of the stone bricks used to create the castle. One by one the thief would quickly hoist himself up and out of view. Upon entering the room Rosa would likely catch eye with the tipping Vase and the flutter from outside the window. Heart pounding and out of sight the thief rushed back and retraced his steps. He ran across the way he snuck in and back around to the washroom window. He grabbed the top ledge of the window and swung into the the room with a feat of acrobatics.
Quickly shutting he window he would rush to the door. The boy slid to a halt and walked back to the sink. He made sure to clean up and use the scents about the sink to cover up his scent in the case these folks had about any hounds. The thief walked out of the bathroom, adjusting his pants belt and fixing his hair and being sure to snug his tail back into place beneath his surcoat.
"Hey," He called out to the guards that had been watching the washroom while he occupied it. "Um...I hope there are no guests after me, you know?" He bowed his head and motioned to the room before waving his hand over his nose.
It was not safe to go in here. The boy was escorted to the foyer where he would await the arrival of this shitty queen. He stood with his hands crossed behind him, feeling uneasy. He had been so close. What was that artifact? It made him curious and anxious to see it again. He had to take Chobo into account. If something happened to him the bird would be on his own for a while. This place was strange and new for the both of them. Better not test that Devil's Luck.

Rosa vaguely saw tha man jump out of the window, hurrying forward to stop the urn from falling before moving to the window to see where the 'intruder' boldly jumped our from. She looked down, only to be met with thin air. She frowned, moving down to alert the guards and sent some more up to guard the King's shrine. Satisfied with the added security, the Queen went back to the throne room to meet her guests.
She was walking across the gardens when she spotted Ceodore seated on one of the benches, his look distant and his shoulders slumped. Rosa's heart was tearing in two as she moved towards her son, a hand outstretched to beckon him. Ceodore looked up and smiled, taking his mother's hand and gladly enveloping her in an embrace. Rosa was never as thankful that he didn't believe those dreadful rumours. But she knew that the Prince was still affected by it all.
"Are you not supposed to be home until tomorrow,Ceo?¡±Rosa said, a hand smoothing his bluish hair. Ceodore pulled away, shaking his head, murmuring something about not wanting to leave her alone. The Queen smiled, taking her son's arm and walking with him the remaining way to the throne room.
"We have guests from distant lands today, love. They said they wanted to hold a play for you father's safe return. Who knows, they might just have the angel's touch." The White Mage said, her strides graceful and fluid, matching Ceodore's strong paces. The prince frowned and said nothing, which rendered Rosa silent the rest of the way.
As she sat on Cecil's throne, with Ceodore on the seat next to hers, she moved her gaze among her royal servants. She idly wondered how many of them she could trust when she leaves Ceodore once more for her search. Her heart ached for her husband but now is the time to take repose; to build the strength she needed for her plans of an unending search.
"Send them in," Rosa commanded, and two servants went out to fetch the visitors. The Queen folded her hands together and waited.

Jovial Prince of Thieves The Genome made sure his suit was neatly done. Anything out of place and these sorts would not give him the time of day. It was bad enough he introduced himself as a performer. Though the caste was not as low as a commoner's, it was still down there in the lines. He scoffed and really felt out about it. Too bad. He would have been long gone if he got his sticky fingers on that artifact. No matter. Get them a little drunk, happy and it was as good as his. He would do what he could on the fly. Soon he was led to meet this auspicious leader. That was a laugh. This sort would only lead to the downfall of a people, what better to help a couple of teary-eyed kids than roba king and queen blind?
He was introduced as "Sir Zidane of Tantalus" before walking into the room. His steps were the proud motions of a man who had paid for his crimes. Arrogance that perfectly suited the young and informal thief. Though he looked fit enough to be a Lord, he was a monkey in a suit. The claps of his boots shuffled against the marble floors as he strode into the throne room. He held out his arms to make an extravagant show of his entrance and almsot dipped his head in sarcastic greeting, in a harsh, disrespectful bow, but he was frozen when blue eyes came upon the throne.
He jumped back with such an animated motion it put guards on alart and they pointed their weapons at him. He jumped back and lowered himself as he held out his hands in surprise. That figure on the throne. No way. The baroness? His friend? She was the evil dictator that he came to save the people from?! He was down right surprised, horrified, and now just really confused.
"R-Rosa?!" He called out with a bit of laughter in his voice.

The Queen looked up upon hearing the announcement, her mouth slowly forming a small 'o' as the name rolled off the advisor's tongue. Zidane? No, it must be a man with the same name. But as the thief pranced in, his tail swinging behind his back and his blonde hair reflecting the gentle, Baronian sun, Rosa couldn't help but gasp, mirroring the astonishment that was painted on Zidane's face.
"Zidane!" She exclaimed, jumping from her throne seat and pulling the man into a short embrace, holding his hand in glee as she gave it a small shake, "What are you doing here? How did you get...erm..." she stopped, feeling all eyes on her as she looked around and saw all the court lords and ladies looking at her with either raised eyebrows or blatantly open mouths. She remembered that she was Queen, laughing a bit before bowing, retreating back to sit at her throne. Ceodore was also looking at her strangely, yet she patted the boy's head, before beaming back at Zidane, "Forgive the sudden outburst, Zidane here is a dear friend whom helped me in my search for King Cecil." She said, nodding her head at the advisor's shocked face. Ceodore sighed and shook his head in amusement, addressing the thief politely, "It's an honor to meet someone as gallant as you, sir Zidane, who helped my mother in times of need. Please enjoy your stay here at our humble Kingdom."
"Indeed." Rosa said, bringing her hands together on her lap, "Just tell us whatever you need, and I am sure you brought your theater ship with you? I was a bit reluctant to have random troupes playing inside of Baron, but I am pretty sure now that we will enjoy the show since it involves you." She said, the cheeky smile staying on her lips. It was like a breath of fresh air amidst the turmoil she had in weeks of her return to Baron and she simply couldn't be sad anymore. The promise of being with a friend even just for a day; a friend who knew how hard she searched for her beloved, is something that became a shield against anything that might destroy her good mood.
Outside the throne room's doors, the whisperings became louder.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
The thief was not expecting such a greeting so stiffened a bit at her hug, cheeks flushing. It was his friend! To think the rumors spread about her. Now he was a bit less surprised given a moment to chuckle at Rosa's bubbly personality. She was -- on the throne. She was not some simple Baroness. She was a true and proper queen. Now this was awkward. He knew how queens needed to behave and them having friends with folk like him? That was pretty looked down upon, at least where he was from. But she did not seem to taken by it so he did not really take it into consideration. He had been so surprised his tail slide out, only forcing greater stares on him from the human.
He stood as the guards pulled back their weapons, equally confused by the situation."Wow, Rosa. You're doing good for yourself." He laughed, trying to brush off the bothersome doubts he was having.
There was no point in doubting what he was seeing with his eyes. He sighed as he felt the burning eyes one his tail. That was no good. Rosa seemed very trusting of him and expecting. But he did not bring his ship this time around. It was just him and -- Choco! He could perhaps use this to his advantage, maybe assure himself of the truth. Of course he trusted Rosa, but maybe she had been so worried by her missing king, she was too distraught to realize. He noted the young boy beside her on the throne. At his greeting Zidane grinned broadly and bowed in an exaggerated manner, but he was a showman and would do so properly.
"My dear Rosa, I am sorry to disappoint, but it's just me this time." He stood and pressed his chest. "See I've been traveling around with my Chocobo, getting used to this town. He's my partner in all this work for now! Ah, I aslo need a place to bring him in and unload." He looked to the young boy.
Was this perhaps Rosa's....? No, the task at hand! He did not want to let on he was up to mischief. He bowed politely, feeling a bit awkward now that he has come onto this new knowledge of his friend. The actor held up his ploy. He was dressed quite well so there was at least a measure of reach between the two castes, but Rosa would likely recognize it as the costume they used to fool the nobles of Treno with. His blue eyes held a bright smile and an air of charm circled around his form. It was quite scandalous the way he addressed the Queen so directly, but the Genome knew no other way.
Baroness? My Queen? Your royal scrooge? It all seemed to make him feel uneasy and hard to pass his tongue without the tate of sarcasm lacing it. Honestly Rosa did not seem a Queen, to him. Sure she was kind, gentle, even a bit adventurous, but that did not make a queen. Was she aware of the turmoil in the territories surrounding her country? He could not push the matter, lest offend his dear friend. He honestly did not believe Rosa was someone capable of cruelty, but everyone was capable of neglect, even if wholly by accident.
"Would you and...the young boy like to meet my traveling companion? I'm sure he's worried waiting for me outside." After what he tried and nearly got caught doing, there was no question the Golden Chocobo worried.

Rosa smiled, motioning to the subjects inside the throne room and rising from her seat, "The people of Baron will be most happy to have you here, Sir Zidane, and be it known that this fine, good man is a personal guest of ours from now on." She said, her eyes twinkling with mirth. It had been a long time since Rosa felt such elation, and it was a wonderful change for her loyal maids and lords. The others though, remained impassive and their smiles never reached their eyes, and Rosa knew those looks, but nevertheless she held on, "His noble efforts in helping me find clues to where our King will always be looked upon in graceful gratitude of all of us, and I implore you all to make him and his companion most welcome." She finished, smiling her bright smile. She knew Cecil would do the same if she was the one who went missing, and it was the only thought that calmed her soul. She reached a hand towards Ceodore, who accepted it and, with her arm linked with his, they walked towards their guest, "Formality thrown aside, Zidane, it was great seeing you today. And by all means let's meet your companion, although it was a pity that Ceo wouldn;t get to see your airship. He had quite a penchant for them." She turned her gaze towards Ceodore who gave a polite smile before they followed Zidane out. The murmurings died as they exited the throne room, all lords and ladies outside remained bowed as they passed but Rosa could hear a small cough or snort. She felt Ceodore flinch, and she transferred his hand to hers, clutching it tightly.
As soon as they were out of the castle vicinity, Ceodore let go of her hand, the fury in his eyes evident and Rosa's small receded, forgetting about their guest in a short while, "What's wrong, Ceo?"
"How can you let them push you around, mother, when you have done nothing but give them all you have?" He started, turning her back on her, "Apologies to your guest, mother, but I am tired. I'm going to go rest in my room. Just call for me if you need me." He finished, walking away from them. Rosa's lower lip trembled, and a tear escaped her eye. No matter how happy she had been earlier, she knew it didn't change the fact that half of Baron is still planning to overthrow her position. And it was because she failed to give them back their King.
Yet she faced Zidane with dignity, taking care to wipe away the tear as she did so, an apologetic smile on her face, "MY deepest apologies, Zidane. My son is going through a tough time right now...he...he dearly misses his father." She sighed, looking away onto the horizon, watching as the sun started to color the sky a bright orange, "We both do...oh but where is your companion? Choco is his name from what I recalled you said...I don't see him anywhere."

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Her excitement made him laugh. It was nice to have a warm welcome. He was expecting a lot of trouble by the way they had rushed into that room earlier. Usually when guards were so fierce over treasure, the lord of the house would always place it at the forefront of their mind. But this was Rosa! Recently she was quite obsessed with finding her soulmate, but why would she not be? He knew were he in her place -- he knew when he was in her place he was horribly worried about his canary. He could not tease her about it so too her warm welcome to his heart. He still felt a bit embarrassed to have attention from not only a girl, but a woman in charge of the country. Man he had treated her so informally, not that he really cared, but his surprise caused him to call out to her and caused many to give him odd looks.
"Ah, Rosa, pleasse it's just Zidane... it's weird when others are so formal with me." It made him feel out of his element. As if he had to act a certain way. The thief certainly abhorred following the crowd. He was free-spirited.
The looks did not bother the thief so much, he was used to them. What he did not seem keen on were the eyes and whispers directed toward Rosa. Maybe there was some truth to the rumors? He really hoped it was just that rampant wish to play hero gnawing at the back of his mind. But he would hold his trust in his friends and give sharp looks behind the head of his friend as they passed by. He moved to walk closer and kept hold of his cheerful demeanor. He followed along as she talked, praising the Prima Vista. He raised his head proudly and motioned his hand.
"The Prima Vista is the best theater ship in the skies!" The boy boasted.
He looked over to the young prince, still finding it hard to accept Rosa's words. Did queens really have children this young? He rubbed at his head as they walked along. The boy seemed to fume and finally let out the things he was feeling. Kids skin was not as thick as an adult's maybe? Zidane could not help but brush at his head at the embarrassing comparison. Did he really have outbursts like that when he was younger? He chuckled a bit as Rosa sought to fight her tears and loneliness. He had not meant to seem-- cruel. He reached out to pat Rosa on the shoulder gently.
"Don't worry about it.... I'm sure he'll feel better once he lets off some steam, but I gotta say you're a kind -- parent." He really could not say mother. It seemed awkward. Rosa seemed soe close to his own age.
The thief brushed off his feelings and motioned his hand. After reaching into his satchel he pulled out a small, root vegetable. It was a very recognizable Gysahl Green. He gave asmall whistle and waited. The boy loved showing off, it was his nature. An actor was only happy when he had all eyes in the room on them, right? He certainly played this role, among the many he choose to adapt to. But be it friend, or enemy: Zidane could always be depended on as someone that could be leaned on for support. He would never shrug one away.
A loud wark echoed across the courtyard. The mighty, golden bird, rushed along the grass and made a straight charge for the held out snack. The thief had long since learned to hold it at arm's length. He has taken a pack of feather and muscles to the face several times. He tossed up the vegetable as the bird slid toward it. Choco hopped up and snapped the treat out of the air, gobbling it up hurriedly. He nuzzled Zidane and softly warbled with gentle coos. Zidane reached up and patted Choco's neck, the soft feathers fluffing out at the kind touch.
Zidane turned and looked to Rosa with a smile. "You know, you should walk around your kingdom." More than anyhting Zidane wanted to give Rosa the benefit of the doubt. "It might help you with your troubles." Looking outside of the box, sometimes opened people's eyes to the true trauma suffered.
The young actor hoisted himself up, onto the Chocobo. He rode with no saddle, even if Choco was given a small pack of gear to carry and help, the excess weight of a saddle and reins were always absent from the mount, but for Zidane Choco was not some ride, or animal. It was his dear friend who told him his most precious dream, shared with him a treasure coveted by most... Zidane put his trust into his brave traveling companion. The primped and suited Genome reached out his gloved hand to the baroness, the Queen of this land.
"It's hard to see a friend in trouble. Let me help?" Reaching out to another was sometimes the only way he could really let that person know that all they had to do was take that hand. "Haha, plus you can show me around, I man I want to hold the show for everyone to see."
While Zidane wanted to play hero, another group decided to take up their roles as the villains. Now with the Queen a widow and the young Ceodore on the throne they found it the perfect opportunity to take control. The best way was to corrupt the young king. Their plot came straight from a Fairy Tale. What better way to make a villain of a child? A seed of hate had to be planted. The loss of not only one beloved parental figure, but both. Cecil was a fearsome warrior, after all Baron was home to the fearsome Red Wings and Dragoons. While Cecil was still in power, admired by the great warriors, it was a risk.
With him gone it left the groups unstable and without a suitable leader, a king. Many caps dotted the Overworld, the largest of the camps settled outside the great plains of Mysidia. They communicated via Chocobo mounted messengers and hired mercenaries who would deliver the notes and kill any trying to stop them. In the castle town, under the shadow of Baron Castle, a message arrived to the leader of the Baron Division of rebels, who called themselves the Black Chocobos.

She sighed, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear and gave him a soft smile, her hands clasped behind her back, "it really is a bit of work, what with Ceodore being this age. I remember myself causing mischief, albeit accidentally when I was his age." she chuckled, watching as he pulled out a gysahl green, recognizing the plant as a tool they used to summon the Fat Chocobo, "Is choco a-.." Her inquiry was cut short when a loud' wark' echoed through the courtyard. Even though it's not fat, it was still a chocobo and she couldn't repress her grin, "What a companion you have." Patting the chocobo's beak as it came closer. It was then when Zidane suggested a tour around the kingdom, her hand stilling a little before resuming the soft strokes. Her smile receded, wondering if it was okay for Zidane to see the state of Baron, which is far from its former glory. She knew the people still adored her, the commoners haven't lost faith since she was one of them at some point. But it pains her to see the families that became poorer when Baron's trade plunged. After Cecil's departure, some of the friendly kingdoms suddenly stopped sending and trading goods, feeling they didn't need to anymore without the protection of the King who saved the world.
"It will be my pleasure to show you around." She finally decided, it has been a while since she saw her mother anyway. The Elder Mage was slowly deteriorating, and if not for her duties as Queen, she would rather her and Ceodore stay at her mother's side. She did not learn White Magic just to let her loved ones die.
She took his hand, hoisting herself up on the chocobo, sitting sideways, her hands gripping at the soft saddle Zidane has over the animal and nodded for him to go off. As they passed the castle walls, the gate closing behind them, she could see the guards looking at the both of them with a strange expression on their faces. But the city loomed near, and the thought was whisked away.
Rosa climbed down when they reached Baron proper, the children that were playing automatically going to her and she knelt down to envelope them all in a motherly hug. The commoners began to chat with her, their actions, although more respectful, still vibed a familial and caring aura; an indication of welcoming a long-lost kin. She motioned to Zidane and went to the children, smiling warmly at the determined youths, gesturing towards the actor, "Do you children want to see a show later? This is Zidane, one of my friends, and he is a great actor."
"Queen Rosa, do you have pie today?" One of them, quipped, earning disdaining looks from his peers, but Rosa just went over and ruffled his hair, "I'm afraid not, Timothy, but I promise during my next visit, I will bring some."
"Forgive my son, your grace." One of the adults nearby said, pulling the boy away gently and smiling at Rosa before bowing. The Queen returned the bow and shook her head, taking the woman's hand, "It's nothing, Emily, you're looking after my mother every once in a while when I am gone, all of you here have been very kind to me when I was still here. And with Cecil gone, you all continued to believe I will find him...the least I can do is help...and even I know everything's not enough." She sighed, smiling sadly back at the children, temporarily forgetting Zidane standing beside her.
She looked around, the people's faces looking back at her, smiling, yet she knew they were tired. All of them are exhausted, worked to the bone and all of them wished for salvation. Her heart bled for them, wishing to save them all, but she felt her own strength giving away. Reluctantly, she looked back at her friend, the gentle smile still on her lips, motioning her head forward, "Come, let me show you where you can set up and perform; we haven't used the main square for quite a while, I'm sure it will liven everyone's hearts."
Yet she knew that if her strength wavered, even for one bit, the whole kingdom will crumble. Everything Cecil and herself and all their friends worked for will be for naught. Ceodore will probably blame her. So she tasked it upon herself to stay strong, even if it killed her.
She will find Cecil, and bring him back home.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane could see the worry in his friend's eyes. As he rode with her across the bridge, leading away from the castle, he could not help but drift away at the surrounding world. Rolling hills of greet and clear blue waters filled his chest with fresh air only available in the countries. This place was not at the apex of it's Industrial Age. It was nothing like Lindblum and not yet the size of Alexandria. Even still it carried its own charm and sophistication. He loved traveling. Perhaps that was what he loved of his canary. The Bay that lined the edges of the kingdom not only provided protection, but beauty. As they rode he made sure to settle his tail over his knee so he did not pester Rosa with his twitching limb.
Arriving in the castle town Zidane motioned his hand to Choco and settled it on the bird's shoulder to lead him. Seeing as Choco had no obstructing reins or saddles, it had to be done this way. The only thing over the Chocob's back was a bit of cloth that prevented the gear he carried from hurting him or digging into his soft feathers. The bird was very calm and tame, quite close to the thief. As Zidane watched the baroness... no it was Queen was it not? It was really hard seeing Rosa as someone responsible. It was not that he felt she could not, just that he knew her before he was aware of her title. Maybe he just felt guilty he thought, even for a second, that his friend was bad. He should know betters. Rumors often took lives of their own. He smiled as he watched Rosa tend to the children. Choco warbled at the smaller children, the bird content in this environment, but still peeking over Zidane's head from behind him.
The thief smirked at Rosa's words and gave a wink. "And to think, you're so good with kids Rosa." He would informally call her, but he was never one to have proper manners. He was crude, but always spoke to everyone equally.
Zidane rolled his shoulders and whistled for Choco to follow along. The town was nice, so were the folks. Than where had these whispers come from? Who were the envious, green-eyed monsters that hid among all these folk that seemed so happy to see Rosa's smile? It really concerned him, but for now he would concentrate on spreading what good he could. He wanted to find out, and Tantalus always got what they want!
But it may turn out to be a sour deal...
As Zidane boasted and showed of his gear, which ranged from fanciful costumes, to soothing instruments, another fiend crept through Baron. The veritable green-eyed monster, who sought to clip the wings of the Militaristic country, wanted nothing more than to topple its royal family and bring about a change. Royal families were corrupt and profited from wars with neighboring countries. The Black Chocobos were a Federation. A group come together from the remnants of the old days. Those too steeped with these dreadful feelings to live in these new systems. It was as if everyone had suddenly forgave each other. They were not ready to give up and let these places take power back.
Baron had the right idea: to systematically destroy opposition, but in the stead of conquering these places, they wished to build a new world divided by their own ruling governments, regionally controlled, but together in a single entity: a union of brothers. Allegiances with others were shaky. The moment another grew enough power they would take over a weaker territory. No, this way they could rule...together.
The message arrived and the game was set. A young man was hired to deliver a letter to the castle. The stamp on the parchment, which sealed it, came from the Mysidia House. It explained of one of the scholars seeing a figure in white armor, roaming the edges of Mount Ordeals. It was no secret, across the kingdoms, of Cecil's disappearance. That was the other trouble with kingdoms. When you were weak, others were the first to know and take advantage. Allies were temporary, brothers were forever. This was the motto of the Black Chocobos.

"I had to be good with kids. Fifteen years of Ceodore honed me in it." She answered, returning his cheek, smiling as she walked alongside him, every now and then patting Choco who followed closely behind, leading him to the main square, "There was a dancer here before, but she went to Troia to study and become an Epopt. They are the guardians of the crystal there; it is quite a noble job." She continued, stepping over a bride and leading Zidane into a quite, sizeable place, looking over as he showed his instruments, "I am surprised Choco didn't keel over in exhaustion at all these things that you made him carry. How did you get to this world, by the way, Zidane? Have you discovered a way to do it too?" She had been travelling around the worlds by the use of her magic, and last time she checked, Zidane isn't well-versed in the art, he said so himself. Maybe Cecil also got swept away by a same force...maybe even, something is hindering him from coming home. She shook her head to clear away the thoughts, focusing on explaining how much time Zidane has on his hands to pull off a performance and also offering him a place to stay inside the old Dragoon quarters. Kain also left without notice, but she knew he's around. Maybe it's time she looked for the Dragoon as well and made him help. The three of them had been friends for a long time after all.
Back at the palace, a messenger from Mysidia arrived and requested for the consul's attention, granted quickly as the guards took one look on the envelope seal. The mere mention of him trabelling from the devil's road made them think that it was an urgent matter and so the messenger was allowed to roam freely, heading to the throne room. Just as he expected, the Queen isn't there and he suppressed a secret smile at how easy everything is.
The envelope was turned over to the advisor.
The rustling of paper was heard.
The messenger bowed low to hide his smile as a gasp was heard from the wise man.
"Queen Rosa....go tell Queen Rosa, now!" ---- It was twilight when Rosa finished giving Zidane his tour, walking with him back to the castle for dinner. It was also then when a guard clumsily ran to her, his shoulders sagging as he doubled over and panted, looking up at the queen, "My lady....King Cecil...King Cecil has been spotted."
Rosa's grip on her cloak faltered, given to her by her mother when they visited. Lady Joanna Farrell fussed over her while the old woman interrogated the younger Zidane, asking him questions about his homeland all the while giving Rosa everything she needed and loved to eat. The cloak was also from her mother, but it lay forgotten on the ground as she moved forward and grasped the soldier's shoulders, her emerald eyes full of hope as he searched the man's blue ones for answers, "Tell me, quickly!"
"Mount Ordeals, Your Highness." The guard can only mouth and it was all Rosa needed, her hands moving back to cover her mouth, her eyes brimming with tears. They were tears of relief and the promise of salvation; the promise of seeing her lost love and she didn't know what else to do. She looked back at Zidane, a soft nod and the smile that slowly crept her lips mirroring her happiness, her hands reaching over to grasp his, "Is it too much of a favor to ask you to come with me? I have to....I have to see him...I have to bring him home." Her voice was shaky as she gripped on his hand, her palms cold and her mind blank. She had to get ready, it felt like he was slipping away every second she stayed in Baron.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane laughed at the light scolding and patted Choco's side. "Don'tcha go underestimating Choco's strength! He earned all this strength by travelin' and followin' his dreams! Right buddy?!" The bright bird warbled out and jumped up in cheer, flapping his wings before landing back down.
Zidane was really proud of his friend and was glad he was willing to come with him. He was worried if he wandered about alone he would do something stupid. The thief put a hand to his hip and pet Choco after unloading everything and making sure it was good and safe for later, though he left his violin with the bird, not really trusting it to the others to keep an eye on. Those really keen on treasure knew it when they saw it. Hearing Rosa's question he could not really help but worry about that himself. He had been traveling with Choco through the Evil Forest. He heard some thing. It whispered through the shallow winds. He had been feeling badly about the girl and worried if she was alright.
It ate away at him that he recognized her. He felt like a heel but poor Choco was probably super startled. So was he. He would blame himself had anything happened to his friend. He did not mind being shot at or attacked, he could always run, but Choco was braver than most. Perhaps he picked it up from the thief, but in the end Choco would likely try and save his friend than see them hurt. They searched all throughout the Evil Forest, but finally found it. It was some stuff from the old wreckage. Boss had said not to worry about it, but he knew that it was something that carried memories for them. It was what let them begin everything. The first costumes and instruments. Deep down in the pile of the chest of goods, was the old violin. he remembered hearing many tales with it being played to the story's feelings. he had been on his way back, but something happened.
He heard Rosa calling for help. There was no way, right? There was no way she had gotten lost in such a horrible place. He saw her teleport away! Was her magic still -- weak? Was it his fault because he had forced her to choose between him and herself, getting caught in King's trap? He did not think twice about ignoring a cry for help. He already tied everything on Choco, so there was no time to consider anything else. He mounted the bird and rushed toward the sounds, the cries of anguish. When he woke up, he was on this world. Choco had been pecking at his head worriedly and when he asked the bird if they heard it too.... Choco denied any knowledge.
But he was here now. He laughed nervously at her question. It was brilliant this place. Hearing that someone would be chosen to protect the crystal, that was pretty up there to him for a society. It was something that needed protecting. He knew if his Crystal was ever in danger again he would always go and fight for it.
"Ah, I heard you callin', so I came." That was his answer and he gave it so with a laugh.
Meeting Rosa's mother was quite an experience for the thief. He had never seen a mom so -- warm. It brought feelings to his heart that made him a bit jealous of Rosa. He answered what he could, after all eh was still pretty young himself so lacked a bit of experience in some things. He lived in Treno for a bit with his father and moved to Lindblum while he was still pretty small. A big city with a lot of industry. Airshipyards, Shipyards and a fine tradition of Hunters taking care of their own. Lindblum was full of growth, prosperity and a chance to become a person of great worth. Zidane talked about the theater and how everyone was always so caring for one another. It truly was his home.
When the message arrived and seeing Rosa's tear filled eyes, how could he say no? He held her hands in his and smiled. Through jealous eyes it looked as if he did so lovingly, but this was the honest care of a friend. It was something easily mistook for true love. "Are you daft?" He shook his head and held her hands tight. "I came here, because you asked me to." Perhaps that was why the voice called to him in the Evil Forest, where memories were frozen still.
Perhaps he was meant to come and aide her in the quest to find the love he already knew. He was not going to abandon her. They already had been through so much. He laughed out and patted her shoulder to reassure her that he would be there every step of the way.
---------------- ----------------
Everything was set into motion. On Mount Ordeals a few members of the Black Chocobos had climbed into the sacred rockface, pulling along a heavy cage. A terrible sounding roar ripped from the darkness behind the bars.
'Hurry up! Release it and let us be off!' The man motioned his hand and from the cage was released a massive Adamantoise. The turtle beast was native to the deserts of the Damcyan Kingdom, the only place they could be found. The seeds of mistrust would be sown. With the beast released in the depths of the mountain, just before the Holy Gravesite.
With the trap set, they only need wait for the Queen of Baron to appear. As one trap was lain, another was prepared. Along the Devil's Road another trap lay set. As soon as the Queen left the "safety" of the teleporter it would be disrupted so the path lay closed, assuring she would have no mean of changing her mind were she to take it, but they were prepared for other means to sabotage her way back to Baron.

Hope. It was all that powered the Queen as she rushed past the guard at Zidane's acceptance, not even caring if the theif was calling her back to offer her a ride to the castle. Instead she sprinted, her years of training as an archer aiding her in dexterity, putting a gap between her and the spot where they had been, her feet trailing soft footprints on Baron's sandy cobbled streets. She was panting, her legs aching as they were suddenly put to use after such a long time of repose, but she didn't care. All she cared about was this sliver of hope; the chance to see him, the chance to hold him in her arms and cry.
Because she felt like crying, the hope was too much, too intense for her to bear alone. She pushed past the castle gates, ignoring the stares and calls of the guards as she ran, towards the western tower, towards their chambers. Rosa jumped up the flights of stairs, to step at a time, her legs screaming in need to slow down, but she couldn't, how could she, when the chance to see Cecil again was so, so near?
She flung the door open, allowing her aching limbs a moment's repose before she walked towards her closet, taking off her cloak and fastening another in its stead, this one made for traveling and mobility. Her eyes fell upon her Perseus, the bow once again feeling so nostalgic as she grasped it with dainty palms. With a nod to herself, she strapped the weapon across her shoulders, the matching quiver with assorted arrows latched on her thigh beneath the cloak, and the royal mace she carried to amplify her magic laid on top of her dresser. She went out and closed the door, the run calming her down but the hope in her heart flared larger still, every step down making the flames dance. She was ready to bring him home.
"Your Highness! Whatever is the matter?" Her young handmaiden appeared outside the tower, a look of pure concern painted on her face. Rosa took a deep breath and smiled, pulling her loyal servant into her arms, before breaking down to cry. She felt so tired, so very tired, yet there was a relief in her fatigue. Finally, after searching for so many months, she had news about him, vital news, and he was back at home, where she could easily reach him in a heartbeat.
"Please, take care of Ceodore for me." She whispered, grasping the girl's hand before wiping away her tears, her face determined as she strode with graceful gait, towards the castle gates, where Zidane must have waited for her. Airships are not probable as their transportation, but Mt. Ordeals is a long way. Perhaps they could use the Devil's Road, for what more important matter should it be used for than finding the King of a nation?
A billowing of cloak announced the Queen's arrival, and before she crossed the gate, she looked back towards the castle, squinting her eyes as the wind stung when she pulled her gaze upward, looking over her home, her Kingdom, "Soon...my dearest, he will be back. We will be whole once again."
