Locke looked anything but alright, yet his delirious state was proving more and more challenging for the ex-General. She frowned at his quip, helping him as much as she can to his feet, her strength proving useful as she hoisted him to his bed, trying to force him to lay down. She wordlessly pulled his bandages away, although not as bad as it was when she first saw it, the wound was once again spewing the black substance, and Locke's pale face was not much comfort either, "You're an idiot for hiding this in the first place." She softly scolded, looking around for fresh bandages. She stood up, about to gather the things she needed when Locke spoke the words, wanting her to stay. She crouched beside his bed, wiping her stained hands on the soiled bandages before taking off his bandanna, pushing away his silver hair away from his face, "Who said I was going to leave you in this condition? Of course I'll stay." She said, leaning over to kiss his forehead. Her stomach was in knots when she left to grab a basin, filling it with water at a nearby well, before going back to his side at Lightning speed, wetting a cloth she found and started cleaning the wound. It looked a little less nasty than before, and it also told her that Cure won't work on this. It needed something stronger, and she wondered if she should look for it.
"Do you think the Espers are back too?" She asked, not really wanting to know the answer. She can sense Shiva somehow, but the deity hadn't returned back to her. If she did then it would just be all too real; the Magitek Knight could only revel at the thought, "Maybe...just maybe an Esper can cure you off this."
She silently berated herself for again not having enough power to even save the one she loved, and she secretly felt what Locke must have felt when he was trying to save Rachel. No...even if it meant that they have to face Kefka once more, if the Espers are alive and they are the only way to cure him, then she would gladly fight him again. She would never forgive herself if she failed.
She felt like daggers pierced her chest at the thought of failure.
"I know. But we're going to be together if that happened. I'm sure nothing can stop us...all of us...all our powers, it was what destroyed him in the first place." She said, cleaning the wound the best she could and getting a bottle of potion from her belt. She opened the cap and let him drink it, watching as the wound closed again, "You need to drink this every once in a while...it'll be expensive though, but it'll have to do until we find a more permanent cure." She sighed, putting the basin down, applying fresh bandages on his wounds, "Do you really believe that they are in league of Kefka? Because I know I haven't seen them before. And there was also a mention of another world. The people that performed that ridiculous play in the Opera House said they were from another one. That could just be a lie for publicity though, but I don't know..." She shook her head, finishing the job before turning her gaze towards his eyes, "I feel like I can't be sure of anything now."

Despite the pain he was in, Locke managed to smirk a bit as Celes scolded him, it was so like her. He was also happy to hear that she wouldn't go, though the way she said it sounded like her normal scolding tone, which Locke didn't mind. Locke watched as she left and felt terrible for being injured, she must be so worried about him. He hated seeing her worry about him and he hated the fact that his stupidity, or well pride, was the reason she was suffering. When she began to clean the wound Locke let out a low groan of pain.
He was surprised it still stung but at the same time it was expected seeing how he got the wound in the first place. Celes's question caught Locke off guard for a moment, were the Espers back? It would make sense seeing how he could use magic that was granted by him from Phoenix. "Them being back makes sense as I can summon Phoenix, maybe it can help," To him that sounded like a good plan but could he muster the energy to summon the beast? The man tried to move and attempt this feat but his body wouldn't move.
"Damn, looks like my body won't move. I'm sorry Celes, looks like summoning Phoenix is a little too much for me," Locke was never good with magic, Celes and Terra were the stars of that show and Locke couldn't even compare to the two of them. The Phoenix was his ace in the hole, the only thing that he figured would help right now unless Celes was still able to summon an Esper which he was sure she could do. There wasn't anything Celes couldn't do in his eyes, she's an amazing woman. It was just, he wanted to be able to prove that he could keep up with her.
Celes had also began to calm Locke's nerves down when he had doubts about fighting Kefka again. She was right, they could do it and nothing would stop them from being together. The potion she had given him wasn't the best tasting thing ever but when were potions ever good tasting? Those creatures that attacked him though, they did feel other worldly. Maybe what Celes heard about other worlds is true, perhaps there are other worlds out there but Locke wasn't really keen on the idea of monsters coming from them.
"Maybe I over exaggerated a bit when I compared them to Kefka but still they're formidable foes. They swarm like locust and after you kill one another one just takes its place, if I didn't get out of there like I did I wouldn't be here right now," As he met eyes with her he placed a hand on her cheek and smirked a bit. He remembered the Opera House, it wasn't a fun experience to be honest "All I know is that I love you and everything is going to be alright, you can be sure of that," As he said that he felt the pain subsiding a bit, finally he could have some peace for a moment.

Her hand stilled at Locke's words. Could the Espers really be back, but Locke said he could summon Phoenix, or rather feel like he can. She left her magicite shards at home, but she could feel Shiva's powers resonating inside of her in a heartbeat, thinking that maybe he was right. A sense of foreboding mixed with the feeling of relief at finding a cure for Locke's condition. But if it really was true, then what would become of the world?
"For now, it may be something we could count on, but I didn't say try summoning right now." She said, glaring at Locke as he tried, willing him to stay in bed. She's not one to reprimand a man if he tried to do something that will probably kill his life, as long as it was for the greater good. But it was because those men weren't the one she loved. In fact, she didn't love anyone at all before Locke. If he wants to kill himself, he had to go through her first. She sighed, leaning back on her chair, but not letting go of the hand that she claimed in hers, idly rubbing her thumbs on his knuckles, willing his cold body to start generating more heat, knowing that the potions will work anytime soon.
"I know...I fought them off briefly in here when I was looking for you two weeks ago..." She said, her voice lowering as she let slip, a small blush covering her face, "I-I was in the neighborhood then, thought I'd drop by to say hello." She looked away, becoming engrossed in the patterns of wood on his wall, biting her lip, hoping he wouldn't tease her about it. But then he said those words again and her face turned a deeper shade of crimson, inwardly berating herself for baring too much emotions. She didn't want to seem weak towards Locke during this time; this time she's going to be his pillar of support.
"If you say so." She gave him her warmest smile, bending over to kiss his cheek, before leaning back against her chair, just watching him, "Noon is still a long time, do you want some rest? I'll watch over so don't worry." Truth is, she didn't know if the potions will work better if Locke is asleep, but she sure as hell wanted him to get some rest if they're going to be on a journey anytime soon. The Espers aren't a guarantee and she wanted him to at least make it safely to Figaro, where she could lock him in just in case his condition didn't get any better. At least there she'd know he's safe and will be alive when she returns.

Locke was still regretting his inability to summon the Phoenix, though in his wooded house that wouldn't end well. Either way he wanted to be fine for Celes's sake, he couldn’t bare he having to go through the pain of losing someone you loved. He would eventually get better and then he'd take care of those damned creatures and Kefka if that clown bastard was back from the dead, which the treasure hunter was hoping that he was dead. That man caused so much pain to everyone of this world and deserved to burn in hell and Locke would send him back there happily.
For now he would just keep in mind that the Espers were a factor in all of this, though he wasn't going to rely on the too much. When she had said something about fighting the creatures it made Locke sit up a bit in his bed. "You fought them?!" He wasn't sure if he was annoyed that she didn't tell him sooner or relieved that she wasn't in the same position as himself. Though the thought of her coming here to see him was sweet and it made the man's face turn a bit pink.
"That was very thoughtful of you Celes, I'm sorry I wasn't around to greet you and also to fight those creatures with you," Now Locke was upset with himself for not being home as much, what if something had happened to her? He would never forgive himself if those creatures hurt her, damn it Locke! "I'm glad you're not in a similar state such as myself," He tried to say that with a bit of a laugh but all he got was a painful groan. Locke then slumped down again and rested against the pillow his head was on, it was time to sleep.
"What? Are you just going to sleep in that chair?" He asked as a thought came to his mind that made him blush. "There's plenty of room in this bed and I wouldn't mind if you came up here," As he said that he realized what he could be insinuating. "I mean just to sleep! We don't have to do anything else! It's not like I'm implying anything else by it! I mean! I mean! I'm just going to shut up now," His face was completely red and figured he was about to get scolded by Celes.

"You think those overgrown blackberries can wound me just like that? I'm not as careless as you." She said, smiling a bit at her joke. She started to loosen up,yawning, just feeling the fatigue of the day wash over her. She looked at Locke as he asked if she was going to sleep like that, and his next words elicited a frown and a blush on her cheeks at the insinuation. She looked away, only to look back as Locke stuttered an apology, earning a giggle from the ex-General and she scooted over to sit beside him on the bed, her hand on his chest, "I'm fine, Locke. I want to watch you sleep. " She said, looking at him and thinking. She did feel tired after all, but sleeping with him, even just in the literal sense is a bit too forward. After all, no matter how hard she is, she is still a woman.
And a woman sleeping with a man under the same roof just didn't sit well with her.
But then, as she gazed at Locke's features once more, the color slowly flowing back to his skin as the potion worked, she found herself kicking away her boots, pushing him gently to make room, and sidling herself next to him, her body a few inches away from his. She turned to face him, yet didn't meet his eyes, it just felt so awkward and her heart felt like it was going to burst. Her only contact with men this intimate were during grappling lessons back at the military, and no one came out uninjured if they decided t cop a feel. Celes squirmed uneasily, looking anywhere but his face, her arms behind her head as pillows, folded atop one another.
"I...I hope you get a good night's rest.." She mumbled, just to break the awkward silence.

Locke's heart was racing to the point where he felt as if it was going to burst from his chest. Why did he have to say something? To his surprise Celes had actually got on the bed, she wasn't laying in it just sitting on it. Now Locke was prepared for a nice scolding but instead she had placed a hand on his chest and comforted him. He was surprised that she was so calm about what he said, he figured if he had said something like that when they first met he'd have a blade in him, lucky for him that was a while ago.
He was more surprised by the fact that she had actually laid down next to him, his heart began to race again. The treasure hunter had to repeatedly tell himself to calm down, he didn't want Celes to notice. He was also avoiding looking at her as he was too embarrassed to look at her and not turn bright red. To calm himself down he took in a few deep breaths and finally relaxed his body. He still kept looking everywhere but to her. At that moment the man felt the potion doing its work and at first the sensation felt awkward but that feeling quickly went away.
When Celes had broken the awkward silence, Locke turned his body facing her and smiled. "Thanks, hope you get a good night's rest as well," He replied as he moved his body closer to her and kissed her gently on the cheek before moving back some. Locke then closed his eyes and tried to clear his mind so he could sleep. So far he wasn't getting anywhere with the whole clearing his head but he was trying. Even if he didn't get any sleep due to his cluttered mind it was alright because he was here with the person he loved.

Her heart could only be compared with the beating of a thousand battle drums, his feather-light kiss on her cheek taking the rhythm to a crescendo. He shifted, pulling a few inches away, to offer her more space before he closed his eyes, trying to sleep. In the darkness of the night, Celes could only see the shape and outline of his jaw as she extinguished the lights with a soft breeze of snow from her fingertips, the only illumination being the moonlight from a nearby window. She blinked once, staring at the silhouette of the man she gave her heart to, wholeheartedly, without any repercussions. If someone told her before that she would fall in love with someone like Locke, she would have laughed flat-out at that person's face and maybe give the person a hard thwack with her scabbard. But her heart had a funny way of choosing a man, but she wouldn't have changed it for the world.
Locke, for one, is definitely not the type of man she would have fallen for under normal circumstances. He was too carefree, too warm, too unpredictable; everything her own ideals were the opposite of. She had never even thought of herself falling in love at all, but it was not because he saved her life, nor was it because she had travelled close to him that sparked her love. Celes knew that it was because of how she saw how he loved another so much so that he would risk his life to save her. It was that that made Celes want that love for her own.
It was a selfish reason, and she would also be selfish with his love. As her eyelids fluttered close, and her body pressed to his, her heart in time with the beating of his own, Celes finally felt at peace. For the first time in her life.
-----
She was the first to rise, the sun's rays always acting as a semblance of alarm even in her days in the Military. She blinked away the last traces of sleep, slowly sitting up to not wake the sleeping man beside her. Celes took the time to watch the sun's rays hit his face, different from the moonlit silhouette yet she would be denying her own desires if she didn't believe it as breathtaking. Reluctantly tearing her eyes away, she got up from the bed, putting on her boots and grabbing one satchel at the corner of the door, putting it upon her self to take care of their provisions.
The road to Figaro will not be a dangerous one, since they have Setzer's Airship, but the ex-General just can't take any chances. She bought potions, antidotes, any other thing that could help them, and her mind lightly touched the subject of her Magicites. Both Kirin and Shiva, hidden in her home in Mobliz, and her eyebrows furrowed. Will they be really there to answer her calls? She decided to venture out to the place when they finished the rendezvous with Edgar and the others; it wouldn't hurt to have all the help they can get.
The soft hum in the air suggested the oncoming vehicle before Celes even turned to look at it. The Falcon, never losing its magnificence, lightly touched down to a patch of plain a bit outside of Kohlingen, and the air from its rotors whipped around Celes' face. She tucked the golden locks behind her ear as the rotors halted, a small gangway opening and the unmistakable form of the notorious gambler heading her way. With a nod, she greeted him, meeting him halfway as he strode towards her, a smile dancing on his scarred features, "Ready to go? Where's Locke?"
"Sleeping." Celes merely shrugged, walking back towards the cottage with Setzer in tow. She knew the man had questions, but it had to wait, and if Locke is already awake, he would see Celes' head sticking inside the cabin, a soft smile on her lips, "Setzer's here. I fetched us the potions we need, are you ready?" Behind her, Setzer would look in and wave, before strolling out to head back to his airship, a soft murmur about warming up the engine left to Celes as he walked away.

Locke was prepared for a rough night sleep which would end up to a night of no sleep. Not only did he get some rest but he wasn't plagued with a nightmare, which were a bit constant as of late. His dream was a peaceful one that he would try and remember for a long time if he could. Though the thought of the upcoming trials ahead were fresh in his mind when he awoke from his sleep. He continued to tell himself that everything was going to be fine but there was a part of him that was being pessimistic.
The man rolled over to see that Celes had already awoken and left the comfort of the bed. Locke wasn't surprised that she was the one to wake up first. He let out a loud yawn before lifting his body up off the bed and moved his feet to meet with the wooden floor. It was time to get ready to move and Celes wasn't going to sit around and wait for him forever. Letting out another yawn, Locke got up from his seated position and moved around the house, finishing what little packing he need to do and getting dressed.
As he had tossed a bag over his shoulder and double checked to see if something was still in his pocket Celes had come to alert him that Setzer had arrived. "Yeah, I'm all ready," He replied with a bright smile on his face. Locke always enjoyed riding in the Falcon seeing as it took them to one place to another quickly, the only downside being you couldn't really explore the places you were flying over unless you stopped and landed which was a time consuming process. Perhaps if they need to stop for fuel or something they'd be able to take a moment and enjoy the scenery
That was unlikely seeing how this trip wouldn't take long see as they were headed toward Figaro. He followed behind Celes and took a moment to admire the Falcon before he gave Setzer a nod and climbed aboard the aircraft. How long had it been since he last stepped on this thing? So many memories ran through Locke's head as he stared down at the ground. Once they took off it would be the start of a new journey and Locke was happy that he was doing this with Celes, the woman he loves.

Celes smiled as Locke came out with his own pack, shouldering the satchel before trudging with him towards the Falcon. She touched an affectionate hand on his shoulder as he moved up, towards the gangplank that connects the falcon to the ground below. She could hear Setzer's men working the engine, shouting commands at each other and even the plaintive ringing of laughter. She closed her eyes, feeling the morning breeze awaken her senses, the dewdrops from the nearby trees showering gently over her face as she opened her blue eyes, looking up at the equally blue sky.
She took one step forward, the grass on her feet slowly giving way, just like the slowly deteriorating sense of peace inside her. As soon as she got up to that plank, as soon as the soles of her boots clicked on the hardwood surface, the sense of peace shattered, replaced by gnawing dread. Inside Locke waited, and she looked at him, her vision somewhat darker than it was, maybe because of the exterior of the ship. As the gangway closed behind her, all she could do was take a deep breath and move forward, clutching his hand towards hers, and, with their fingers intertwined, she threw caution to the wind. The ship rumbled and they took off, and Celes knew, that with him, she could do anything.
