He had gotten a few descriptions from the people that lived through the attack and added it to his own account. Once the attack had been contained, he had the guards on a higher alert in fear that these being would attack again. 'Could this be Kefka's doing?' The king asked himself before shaking his head. No, that was not possible. They had defeated Kefka already. Though, maybe it was something that one of his followers had done. There had to be something about these creatures in some book that would help him figure out what had happened.
The King made his way down into the library of the castle. He had sat down with the scholars earlier in the day and had them researching about what these beings were. The were black shadows that acted similar to liquid by shrinking into the earth beneath their feet. Their eyes had glowed a sinister yellow with long antenna from their head. At a glance, they might have seemed harmless. But, he'd seen the destruction that had caused and they had killed a few people in his kingdom. An attack like this would not go un-investigated.
Edgar moved to stand with the head scholar a the man shook his head. "My liege... there is no record of anything by the description in any of our text." He commented, looking towards the King. "Not a single passage for any of the monsters in the world...even when the world was balanced." Edgar shook his head. "That's not possible, there has to be something...It's not some sort of black magic? Espers?" The scholar shook his head. "Unless it's something we are not aware of...we have no records. There are more books in other libraries. I can send a messenger to look there.." Edgar let out a defeated sigh before nodding. "I suppose that would be wise. I'll be leaving at dawn. I must contact the others about this...and a letter simply won't do. Maybe they have some knowledge. Terra may know something if it involves the Espers. If you learn anything, you are to contact me straight away." The scholar nodded and the King left.
Edgar made sure that everything was prepared and that the Kingdom would hide underground if something terrible happened again. After all his work, the King rested. It took him a while to finally drift off with the questions fluttering around his head. The only thing that calmed him was the knowledge he'd know them sooner if he slept. Once the sun began to move over the horizon, Edgar was dressed and ready for his trek. He knew that Celes would most likely be at the Opera House and that Setzer would most likely be there to watch her. With accept to the airship, they could reach all their comrades. So, the King took a chocobo and slowly made his way south to the Opera House.
After the stress of the travel, he made it and moved into the large building. It was just a magnificent as it had been before the world fell into ruin. It was one of the few places you could pretend to be back in time. The King moved into the opera, debating where to search for the woman first. He decided that his first option would be to ask the woman nearby, smiling sweetly at her. "My dear, before I find myself speechless by your astounding beauty, I was hoping you'd know the whereabouts of either Ms. Celes Chere or the owner of the Opera?" ACtions , None. The Prima Vista is parked near the Opera house, not anymore able to fly since the incident with warp magic. The former General sighed and decided to end this farce and leave the troupe alone, deciding that foreigners might not even be up to scratch when dealing with matters of this world. This is her home, and the home of her friends, and no strange group of clowns could dare do any damage more than their 'God' had already done.
Celes decided to go back to Kohlingen to ask Locke about it...that is if she did find the almost always absent 'treasure hunter'. He always seemed to have the time to disappear whenever she was around town, but she was not one to dwell with such depressing matters, at least not anymore.
And it was when she heard that familiar voice as she rounded one corner, her lips tugging up in a small smile as she recognized the man. Of course it was none other than King Edgar, womanizer extraordinaire, charming one of the girls Tantalus hired to help with the organization of the play. It was actually a good thing she ran into him under such circumstances, perhaps someone his stature might know something about these disturbances as of late.
It was not only these cultists that nagged at her being, it was the presence of those shadowy creatures she haven't seen before and one of them even attacked a local girl at an inn she had been staying. They didn't seem to be monsters native to this world which, originally, pushed her to seeing what this foreign theater troupe had been planning or if they were the ones who were bringing these new abominations to their land. As it is, the world of ruin isn't exactly a place that needed more destruction; they can barely scrape through a day even without monsters.
She cleared her throat, standing a few meters away from Edgar and if successful, it would catch his attention, letting the young maiden he was charming scram for a quick getaway. Celes bowed shortly, he is King after all friend or not, and the Gestahlian Knight could never forget her old habits when facing someone of higher rank, "What a surprise, King Edgar. What brings you here in this part of the world?" A couple steps more brought her closer to the young King, a few feet away just enough to be able to talk to him better, her normally icy gaze softening at the sight of an old friend.

It was nice to hear the woman and the small blush he had caused was amusing at the least. She seemed dressed a bit differently than most of the other opera house employees, but it didn't matter too much to Edgar. The woman shook her head, saying that she was not aware of either of their locations but that she would be happy to help him search if he would like.
'Hm, I'll probably have to search the building for her then. I pray that she is still here and has not snuck off with Setzer.' |
[/i] The sound of a female clearing her voice behind him pulled him back to reality as he turned. The King's face changed from bewilderment to a bright smile. "AH! HERE WE ARE!" He grinned, laughing a bit before turning his attention back to the employee. "I thank you for your assistance in finding the woman. I could not have done it without you!" He kissed her hand before allowing the red-faced woman to retreat. The King spun around and looked over Celes. "My dear, Celes... You don't have to constantly refer to me as the King. It's endearing but you are also one of my close friends." He was smiling for a bit longer, taking the time to compliment how well she looked before bringing up the more crucial information. "You look stunning, as usual. I am surprised that Locke or Setzer haven't stolen such a figure for themselves." He teased. "Though, my reasoning for being here isn't as endearing....As much as I wish to say that I came all the way across the world just to see you." The womanizing was now going to be put on hold for something more serious. His Kingdom was being attacked and it's importance was much higher than his only personal actions. He paused for a moment, running through his head the best way to speak to the woman. He did not want to frighten her if she had not personally experienced the liquid shadow's attacks. The Opera House seemed rather calm and excited for there to have been such an attack. "There was an attack in Figaro Castle. We aren't sure what happened and my scholars are at an impasse. The creatures we encountered do not seem to be of this world." He hesitated. "I was hoping that Setzer would be here so that I could gather the group and ask if it's just happening in Figaro, or if this monster is more wide-spread... It was like nothing I have ever seen before." His eyes moved downcast as he folded his arms. "A few of my residents were killed in the attack. I intend to find out who is responsible for this."The King did not want to admit it was as surprising as Kefka's Light of Judgement, but it was similar. The Heartless were new to the world and Edgar had been pulled into the mix when they had attacked his Kingdom. He felt like it was his fault for not being prepared. But, he was going to correct that. He was not about to give up on his quest until he learned the truth about them. "They sink into the floor like liquid and move like a shadow. They have these glowing yellow eyes with bug-like antennas. The Head Scholar mentioned that it may be caused by Espers, which is another reason I needed Setzer. I was hoping Terra might know something..." Edgar babbled a bit, working on explaining his predicament. He just hoped that Celes didn't think he had gone mad. [/div] Actions , None. Flowery. Edgar did always remind her of delicate flowers everytime she sees him. He was beautiful, no doubt about it, he could charm anyone he wishes to and he would charm the General too if it wasn't for the fact that he was as flighty as a summer bird during mating season. No, he was attractive but it just wasn't enough for the General, not enough to transition into love.
But onto more pressing matters and Celes bit her lower lip. She knew this was coming; it pains her to even tell Edgar about the cultists after what happened to his kingdom. Her eyes moved away from the King's and looked down, her voice echoing around the empty antechamber, "I'm so sorry for your loss, Edgar." She knew that this was a painstaking blow at Edgar's reputation as King, and to think that Kefka had been slain and the world should be a little more nicer to live in. But calamities don't just seem to leave their world alone, and Celes knew that they would have to take responsibility and guard everyone with their lives.
"I also encountered those creatures, yet I am lucky enough to prevent that much damage in Kohlinger." She figured Edgar would have questions as to why she was staying in Kohlinger, but the answer is obvious of course; she's still hoping to catch a glimpse of Locke, but to no avail. The Opera House had given her such a luck though, only to have the self-proclaimed treasure hunter slip away again after the ruckus. Celes had half the mind to go with him, but she just wouldn't let these events pass. Her duties to the world were not finished as it is, they had to stop the menace that roamed the lands once and for all.
"There's also something I needed to talk to you about." The Gestahlian Knight paused, wondering how to tell the King about the cultist without inducing any kind of panic. Edgar is strong, she kept telling herself, he wouldn't buckle at the thought of Kefka being resurrected, a thought which she wished wouldn't come true, "The Airship that this theater troupe that remade the play cannot go back to whence it came. We were attacked by....cultists. And you'll never guess who they're worshipping." The visions of those hideous people dressed in flashy clothes sent a bitter taste of bile to her mouth and she found herself gulping before she can continue, "What alarmed me is that they were using some sort of advanced warp magic. One that doesn't feel like it's coming from Magicite. I just thought you should know because I honestly don't know where they're from and how we may stop them. They made the parts of the Airship disappear without scratching the ship itself and it's odd. I thought Magic was stripped away when Kefka left the world, but I have began feeling the energy within me flowing again. Much less even using a spell earlier to tackle the Behemot that appeared after the cultists were gone."

Though, it was no matter. He quite enjoyed being able to swoon any woman he wished to. Had he courted a female, he knew he'd have to end his flirtatious ways with other women. It might be worth it in the end, but he wasn't quite ready to settle down with a queen at his side just yet. He planned to in time just like his father had, but the timing was wrong. Plus, with the chaos beginning once more he had a duty to protect his kingdom and not fall victim to his own bad habits.
Celes began with her condolences and the King looked away for a moment. His expression in that instance showed the bit of regret and depression he'd been hiding. The man nodded, quickly hiding his feelings. "Thank you, Celes...but I just need to prevent this from happening again." The King could not bear to see any of his people killed again. He'd manage to protect a great deal of them during Kefka's rise to power and rule. But, it did not seem to matter. He felt he had failed them for not being prepared for this threat.
The lovely blonde continued on to explain she had already encounter those creatures in Kohlinger and the King frowned. 'So, they are not just on the one continent. They are far more wide spread than I had anticipated.' He thought, a contemplative though smeared across his face. "I am glad you are well and that the town remained unscathed." At least it wasn't a full massacre like it had become in Figaro.
He was contemplating things in his head when Celes said she had something to tell him. This must have been important and the woman had his full and undivided attention. She explained about the troupe before mentioning the cultists. All emotions moved from his face and were replaced with a strong and serious expression. "....Kefka." The man internally cursed, wanting to throw something at a wall. That pompous and sadistic clown was going to get what was coming to him.
She continued to explain that her magic was almost otherwordly. His serious expression and tone remained. "...Kefka has to be behind all of this. But...how did he survive? He should be dead..." The King explained, the frustration growing deeper. "We must contact the others....before something else happens..."

There is a new evil in these worlds, and perhaps it was time to band together again. Sabin had very much kept to himself since the events that led to the Apocalypse. He’d only seen his brother and the rest of the gang a handful of times, including the battle of Kefka’s Tower. Content on furthering his training and spreading Duncan’s teachings to the youth of today, Sabin had mainly kept himself in the area north of Narshe, where Duncan’s cabin resided.
However, upon recent discovery that Duncan was alive, Sabin had set out on another adventure. He took his master’s anonymity as a sign that he was not yet ready for his the Blitz master to return by his side. Therefore, in the past few weeks, Sabin had spent the majority of his time between the Veldt and Kohlingen. He was definitely rusty, and needed a few weeks to get himself back to the level he was on when the group had taken on the God of Destruction.
It was during this time that the bear came upon a familiar gemstone in the form of Magicite. Fenrir had returned to this world, which meant that magic was no longer sealed, as had happened after Kefka was defeated. We return to this world to assist in the battle against a new threat. [/b] He didn’t know what this new threat could be, but he did notice some odd new beasts on the Veldt. Some black creatures with amber eyes. No matter what their shape was, they always seemed to carry those two traits. After what seemed like a couple months, Sabin found himself in South Figaro. He originally only went to gather some supplies before he tried his luck on Triangle Island, where the beasties were a little more dangerous. As he forked the gil necessary over to the shopkeeper for some supplies the vendor spoke to him of an attack on Figaro. ”Definitely a good time to stock up. After the attack on Figaro a lot of people are nervous. They attacked the largest stronghold of this new world…””Figaro was attacked?! Is the king alright?”[/b] ”I believe so, I think only a few were killed.”Sabin didn’t really give the shopkeeper a chance to answer as he turned in a full sprint for the chocobo stable. It was a short day’s ride, but he managed to return to Figaro Castle before noon on the next day. When he arrived, he noticed that tensions were especially on high and with good reason too. Sabin was quickly welcomed in as he got straight to the matter of business. He learned of the black creatures’ attack on the castle and that his brother had just left the castle. Where on earth would Edgar go for help? Terra had given up the adventurer’s lifestyle for a maternal life. Cyan still wasn’t totally stable after the Dream Stooges had tortured him. He’d not heard from Shadow, Relm, Strago, Umaro, Gogo, or Mog. Gau was…well, Gau. So that left either Celes or Locke, both of which had been residing on the island to the west. Sabin gained what clarification he needed from the Chancellor before he set out for the Opera House. The ride over to Jidoor was quick; as it should have been with the amount of money he gave the driver to break record time. The chocobo stable was mostly empty and the keeper told him he’d just rented his fastest chocobo to a very important looking man. So, Sabin settled for second best and pushed the fowl as hard as he could as it made its way for Celes. The ride wasn’t long, but he arrived at the Opera House quickly enough. Sure enough, a chocobo was tied to a post outside. Sabin did the same and made his way into the fancy theater. As he approached he heard something about those same new creatures and a cult of Kefka. He hadn’t run into anything that might lead him to think that the jester was alive again, but he had encountered those creatures several times before. ”I don’t think they’re Kefka’s doing, Edgar. I have encountered them several times in the Veldt. They don’t seem to be following orders of any kind. They’re too…much like wild animals to respond to commands like that.”[/b] Without another word, Sabin approached the Magitek Knight and the King of Figaro.[/blockquote]

The mention of the vile fiend that started it all left a bitter taste in Celes' mouth, but at least she knew she was getting her point across. The Cult of Jesters, she knew Kefka was catalyst of, even if there was no means of directly linking him to them. Celes liked to think of Kefka as dead, gone, obliterated from memory, but it doesn't mean that the evil clown didn't have followers of his own. She witnessed it herself, their schemes and their plans and their own exclamation of their worship of Kefka. The shadowy creatures, though, she was not quite sure, but she wouldn't be surprised if Kefka orchestrated them as well.
A voice fleeted through the air and Celes knew whom it came from before she even turned around. There stood Sabin, someone she considered a great friend as well as twin brother to the King of Figaro. The fighter didn't change much on appearance but she sensed a greater spirit emanating from him. There was something different about his state after the Apocalypse and now, but it was all for the better. She nodded her head and gave him a pleasant smile, moving forward to greet him, holding out her hand for a quick shake, firm yet warm, "Sabin, how are you?" She couldn't help but ask as the Blitz martial artist seemed to be unreachable after the party separated ways. He looks well enough, still the same Sabin she saw before she decided to go her own way yet the comforting familiarity of his presence sent waves of warmth to her heart. It was assuring yet frightening at the same time that he had also known about these new threats to the world, in a sense that they gained another strong ally, yet it meant that this disease isn't isolated only to the parts where they're in but also spread elsewhere. The thought made her chew on her lower lip and look down, briefly thinking about the other people that mattered in her life and how they are faring right now. Nevertheless, it was not time to let emotions get the better of herself and so the Magitek Knight shook her head to clear her thoughts and proceeded to tell Sabin what Edgar already knows, "Perhaps you're right. The Cultists might have been acting out of their 'love' for that...that monster, and the shadows more likely didn't have anything to do with him at all. But it was still worth investigating." She felt the sudden course of energy travel through her body, filling her with dread and security at the same time, "It is no mere coincidence that I can use magic again and these things started appearing, if you ask me. All magic should have been destroyed after Kefka's fall. It wouldn't hurt to be cautious."
She knew the price to pay for underestimating an enemy, and if Kefka is alive they know well enough not to underestimate him. Last they checked, he managed to destroy the world and alter it completely, so what's to say he wouldn't finish what he started next? Is peace really that big of a price to ask? Even if it's impossible at least could that clown just stay dead? It seemed that the demon itself is allied to Kefka if he did resurrect or maybe he was the devil himself. The odd thoughts sent shivers down the General's spine and she looked to both men for something, anything that they could offer to set her mind at peace.
The threat of the coming danger looms more clearly than the scars on her hands.

It drifted over how Kefka had managed to live since the group had killed him. There was no way in the world that Kefka could have lived. Unless he had casted some form of magic to reverse the effects of the death or to trick them. That had to be it! Kefka had played them all! The King felt the frustration rise in himself. It was foolish for them to believe this monster had just been so easily defeated. It had to be an esper's magic that did this!
The urge to set off on a quest for find Kefka was strong. However, another voice caught his attention and pulled him out his own head. He knew that voice instantly and a huge grin appeared on his face. He waited till Celes finished her greeting before giving his brother a bear hug. He was glad to see his brother was alive and well. "...It's good to see you well, Sabin. I was worried since I had not heard from you...But anyway. Who else would it be to have released these creatures into our world?" He asked, releasing his brother. "Something had to have caused this to happen. They are too much like dark magic." He frowned, unsure. The tragedy at Figaro was weighing heavily on his mind. Someone planned that assault as mindless beasts do not have the skills to decide to swarm a castle.
He hadn't allowed the thought to click in his head that it was that widespread until he noticed Celes bite her lip. His twin brother had said the Veldt, right? "...Wait, you encountered them in the Veldt as well?" He paused, confused. "...A breed of creatures on multiple continents sounds quite odd. Each area has its own type of monsters with different abilities. How could these shadows be so widespread?" He asked, the discussions only bringing up more questions than answers.
The General finally spoke up and Edgar turned his attention towards the blonde. She was far more tactically capable in battle than either he or Sabin. She spoke up about the Cultists and the King nodded faintly. "But they would not have access to that sort of power; we can't use our magic either after Kefka's destruction. It was sealed away." He frowned, worry showing a bit on his face. The seriousness was only getting more apparent. Celes continued to mention that she had access to her powers once more around the time that the heartless appeared. "Then it must be magic..."
He folded his arms, contemplating the situation. "I believe it would be wise to locate our other comrades." He nodded, tapping his lip with his index finger as he thought. "We should investigate the cultists and see what they know. If there is even a chance Kefka faked his death and is still alive, we can't just blow it off. He's too dangerous to leave alone for too long." He shook his head. "...Do either of you know the location of the others? We may do best if we split up and gather them."

Celes frowned, not because of disagreement, but because of how clearer the danger became with Edgar's assent. She looked from one twin to the other, her mind's gears working twice to formulate a plan. They have all been lulled to a false sense of peace, and Celes couldn't help but be ticked at the thought.
There was one thing she learned from being General; make sure your opponent is dead before you turn your back away.
"I know where to find Setzer and Locke, as well as Strago and Relm." She said in response to the King's inquiry, pulling her gaze downward to mentally cross off the people she mentioned, "That leaves Gau, Cyan, maybe even Gogo if he's willing and or still alive. Also Terra, I'm sure she wanted a say on all this" She said, running a hand through her hair, "Where do you suppose we start afterwards? I'm sure these fanatics set up a sort of headquarters again. Maybe even built a tower some land away." She looked back at them, addressing Edgar solely, "We plan to move as soon as we're complete, correct?
She waited patiently for the King's response, her fingers tapping on Save the Queen methodically. She wondered what Edgar and Sabin's course of action would be next, but she knew whatever it is, they will pull through.
She had faith in Edgar and in Figaro, because even if not official, she took it upon herself to pledge servitude and loyalty to the just King, this time knowing she's on the correct side.

There was a lot to manage and many people that relied on him. But, he had learned to live with the stress because simply avoiding it would mean chaos or even death. This was how thing were now. The stress was laid upon the remaining party and they had to go and protect the world. Avoiding these signed would only plunge the world even deeper into ruin. They had failed once and their once balanced world had been unhinged. He would not allow that to happen again.
His eyes watched the lovely General as she began to split up the group to search for the remainder of their allies. The King nodded in agreement. "I will look for Terra, Cyan, and possibly Shadow. He had been of great help in the past. Though, I can not promise any of their assistance. We may need to prove the threat to them to force them into action. Sabin, you can collect the others." He began, pondering to himself.
Terra had denied assisting them in the past to protect the children of one of the towns. He couldn't remember specifically at the moment, but he knew there was a town. He'd have to find it because he was sure Terra would be there. Cyan could be anywhere, maybe still madly in love with that one woman he had been writing to in another's stead. Then Shadow, he could be anywhere. But, wherever he was there was a reason be it money or not.
The King turned his full attention back to Celes at her comments. "Well, my beautiful ex-General, we can try to locate it the same way we did he last time. If they have built a tower, we can use Setzer's airship to comb the land. If that turns up unsuccessful, we can always split up and question people in every town. Someone has to know something." He stated, nodding with a strong will behind it. He would protect the world and his Kingdom even if it cost him his life.

"Then it's settled." Celes nodded, a ghost of a smile on her lips , her right hand resting on Save The Queen's hilt. Her heart pulsed rapidly at the thought of another adventure, though not at all wishing anything is wrong, yet the adrenaline rush of fighting once more for the greater good is eliciting a fire which wished to dance around her eyes. She looked at the brothers, flipping a part of her hair off her shoulder, "Terra should still be in Mobliz with the kids. But you're right, we need to get proof for it." She started, looking down on the ground. She felt bad about bringing Terra back into this game; the girl deserved the right to live in peace, as well as the orphans, but will they really be at peace if this turned out to be a great threat? No, she knew the answer to that and it pained her. She wished she had enough power to stop it herself, but it was foolish to think even that. With a sidelong glance at a nearby window, she watched as a small hummingbird flew towards the glass, hovering for a moment before disappearing into the horizon; just like the peace they have today.
She moved forward and smiled at them, raising her hands to pat their shoulders once before going through them, heading to the door, where a trek towards Jidoor will allow her a moment's rest before she looked for Setzer, and in turn, would then look for Locke. No matter how much she denied it, she missed the adventurer, and their short meeting earlier didn't quench her longing.
"Stay alert." She said, opening the doors to outside. The wind blew on her golden locks, refreshing her thoughts and giving her the strength to step forward. The ex-General gave her two, old friends another glimpse before flashing a smile, one that tells them volumes about what to expect from her, "I'll get them over to Figaro, so wait for us there once you're done. Don't start anything without us." She turned, bowing at the Prince and King before turning back towards the exit, boots crunching on gravel as the Opera House doors closed behind her.

Everything was settled and they could go about their plan now. He was looking forward to seeing his friends once more, going off to save the world. However, he wasn't sure it was the price. In the future, he'd have to visit his old friends more often.
Celes gave the tip on where to locate Terra and Edgar smiled. "Thank you, Celes. I'll look for her first." He nodded in agreement. She might take a little to convince, but he knew that it was possible. If the children were in danger, she'd jump on the bandwagon to protect them. He didn't know why he was looking forward to speaking to Terra, but not as much to the others.
The King wanted things to calm once more. He wanted his Kingdom to be safe without the threat of attacks. He wanted things to go back to the simply calm there had been before the heartless had attacked, before the magic took over once more. They would fix this and attempt to set the world in balance once more... and they would succeed.
He was pulled from his daze as she patted his shoulder. Edgar smiled and hugged the woman briefly. "Be safe, Celes...Sabin..." He hugged his brother tightly before he watched Celes head off. So they planned to meet in Figaro. That was a good place to meet. He'd be able to make long term plans to keep the town safe before being forced on an adventure.
"Figaro it is. Hopefully we can gather the whole crew once more." He smiled reassuringly before heading off after Celes. He'd collect the chocobo and head right to Mobliz.
