Light was just beginning to come up over the horizon, painting the sky a brilliant pink-orange and the roofs of the houses of Gran Pulse in the twinkling yellow of early morning. In one of those houses, Serah Farron was sleeping, the light coming in through her window, lace patterns on the hardwood floor through her silk curtains. When the light fell upon her pillow, she blinked awake. She stared at the window, watching the early morning breeze flutter her curtains as it wafted in through the open window before sitting up and stretching. After freshening herself up in the bathroom. She went downstairs and stared out the window in her kitchen. She smiled. It was a perfect morning for a walk. She pulled on a light button-up sweater, her boots, and left her house, making sure to lock her door behind her. As she started out, she looked at the hills, covered in yellow wild flowers.
It had been a little over a year since Serah had come back to life and returned to Gran Pulse. She lived in the new world that had been created from the old world just like everyone else and she lived with her older sister, Lightning. Lightning was usually gone doing other things that Serah wasn't aware of. She was perfectly content to stay home and teach the children at the nearby school. She'd loved teaching in the old world and she loved it just as much in the new world. She loved being able to teach the children to read and write. She loved finding out what their favorite animals were or what they were good at. She loved helping them grow into better people and teaching them the importance of love and kindness, something parents never seemed to be able to stress enough, not even with the nicest of children. More than anything, Serah loved seeing the way their faces lit up whenever she told them one of their drawings was beautiful or they made a good pirate or gave them any sort of praise. She loved being able to brighten their lives, even if they were already very bright.
Serah came up over a hill and looked down at the small valley below. There was someone standing in the valley. She wondered who else could possibly be up this early. It was very unusual that anyone in Gran Pulse was up before noon unless they had to be and even most stores and shops didn't open until ten or eleven. It was only eight-thirty. However, as she got closer, she could tell their clothes were different from the ones that the people in Gran Pulse wore, all dark colors and buckles and straps. She was pretty sure the person was standing with their back to her. She could see how their long snow-white blonde hair brushed the bottoms of their shoulderblades.
Wait. Snow-white hair
Serah stopped walking before her eyes widened, she drew in a sharp breath and began walking again, this time more quickly. She was only a couple yards from the person when she finally stopped and asked in a voice barely above a whisper, "Snow?"
