Elfé sighed as she grabbed her left wrist, rubbing it roughly. She didn't feel anything... maybe the pain that she'd been feeling lately was nothing more than the stress that she'd been under. Her eyes closed as she focused on the Materia embedded in her hand... no, nothing. That was probably it, just stress... But even as she affirmed it in her mind, it felt shallow, as if even she couldn't bring herself to really believe it. Something was wrong with her, and after she found Veld, she'd have to figure out just what it was. But there was no time to waste on such trivial frivolities, not while her father could still be in danger. "Hey, kid. Yer up next. Look alive out there, huh!" The woman was drawn out of her own thoughts by the silly little goatman... a Satyr, he called himself? He had his hands on his hips, leaning forward while glaring at her, as if daring her to step down. A very light smile crossed her face as she lifted her cape, fastening it around her head to hide her appearance. The Satyr raised an eyebrow curiously, but just waved his hands at her while turning away, "Feh, you kids today. Always with your hidden identities and... eh, forget it. I got just two words for you: Win." Elfé lifted her head towards the ceiling for a moment before looking in his direction, "That's only one word." "Bah! Whatever. Just get out there!"
Before long, the woman slipped her left glove back on and stepped out of the ready room, narrowing her eyes as light filtered in through the slit in her covering. She placed her hand on the hilt of her sword, leaning it forward a little so the blade hovered horizontally at her side, deftly walking towards the center of the area as a loud voice rang out, drowning out the few cheers from the crowd "IN THE RED CORNER WE HAVE WAND-... what, is this serious? Really? Feh. Whatever. Wander, the mysterious warrior from the east or... something. Woo." Elfé placed her free hand against her temple and groaned. The entire point of hiding her face and giving them a fake name was to keep her identity a secret in case any Shin-Ra agents were present. But if they're going to make it that suspicious, what's the point? Completely ruined the mood. Oh well. Nothing to do but wait for my opponent to show up, I guess.

"The harpy, right? Or are you a siren?"
Aerynn turned her head, eyeing a burly man with his arms crossed and leaning against the doorframe, his sandal raised and pressed against the threshold in a relaxed pose. He didn't seem as wary or suspicious as the others.
"No," Aerynn said, and while it was true, that was not what the inhabitants of Olympus believed. Ever since she had first arrived and denied her role as a messenger of the gods, rumors had spread, vicious and unchecked, as Aerynn had made little attempt to quell them. The aegyl had come to learn that there were few creatures in this world that possessed wings. A few gods themselves, their messengers, and what were known as harpies or sirens. Those were the monsters, the ones people came to fear, and so they had come to fear Aerynn as well. She should have lied to them, agreed that she was this messenger they wanted her to be, and made false promises to return the requests and blessings they sought. It would have been easier than dealing with this turn of events, and after all, it was not as though the gods did any good for their people.
"I am an aegyl," she said, although she didn't know why she felt it necessary to clarify.
"I believe you," the man said, with the glimmer of a smile that would have set Aerynn's heart beating in her chest if she recognized the attraction she had towards a good looking man. "The name's Hercules. I've seen harpies. I've fought 'em. And though I've never heard a siren's voice, yours doesn't want me to go and drown myself for it."
"Mm," Aerynn replied, not quite sure how she should take that last statement.
"Unfortunately," he continued, and Aerynn supposed she was doomed to listen until her name was called, "That's not what they think out there. You're from a different world, so you got to be careful about what you do or say here. You've heard of the World Order?"
Aerynn shook her head.
"It still applies, even after everything that has happened."
"What is it?" she asked.
He paused, his head leaning out the doorframe. Aerynn heard it, too. They were calling her name.
"Win this match and I'll tell you," the man said. "Lose, and I'll tell you anyway. It's important."
Aerynn nodded her head and made her egress out towards the Coliseum grounds. As she passed him, he made a motion for her to stop. Then, with a gentle finger, he pulled the scarf wrapped around her face below her mouth.
"Word of advice, don't cover your mouth. That's a sure way to get people to think you're a siren."
"And how do I get them to stop thinking I'm a harpy?"
"I'm still trying to figure that out," he said, rubbing the back of his neck with a thick hand. "But you don't have the legs of a bird, so you got that going for you."
"Mm," she said, and when she realized there was nothing else Hercules had to say, Aerynn left.
"AND IN THE BLUE CORNER, WE HAVE AERYNN, THE HARPY!" the announcer blared.
The crowd was dead silent as Aerynn made her way into the grounds. She could feel every eye on her, every hated, scornful look.
"She could be a siren," a second voice said over the system.
Aerynn ignored them, which was easy to do. She was not here to make friends, only to find information and progress as far as she could. Hopefully she could make it past the first round.
The aegyl stopped a good twenty feet in front of her opponent, and despite the cloak she had wrapped around her head, Aerynn recognized her clothing as the woman who had sat next to her on that bench before the tournament began. Aerynn tried to draw what little she knew of this woman, any weaknesses, and quirks, that might help her in this fight, unfortunately, she came up with nothing. She was going in blind, but that was just the way things were.
Not one to rush in to battle when she didn't know what she was getting into, Aerynn took a moment to knock the dirt from her boots before taking a defensive stance, her feet planted, her shoulders squared, and her naginata raised high. Then she waited for Wander to make the first strike.

Elfé's eyes narrowed when she saw the other contended approach. It's that girl... what were the chances that they would be one of the starting pairs? She had no idea how powerful this girl was, but since Zirconiade wasn't reacting, the woman guessed that she was on the lower end of the scale. Which meant that if she didn't want to draw undue attention to herself, she should pull her punches. No need to go all out in the first round anyway. She clenched her left hand tightly enough that the leather glove squelched, then released, then clenched her hand again- flexing it out to limber her fingers up. After all, she needed to be quick on the draw if this was to work.
The woman grabbed the hilt of her sword with her left hand and slowly pulled it out of it's holster, pointing it directly at the winged girl as she took a few steps back, then started to sidestep, slowly strafing around the girl but making sure to keep a good 25 feet away from her. "That's not very fair, if you can fly. I don't use magic or guns. They're too... impersonal. It makes killing too easy. With a blade, every victim is etched into your memory..." That wasn't the only reason, of course. The vast majority of weaponized Materia was artificially manufactured from Mako by the Shin-Ra corporation. Elfé relied on Zirconiade and other naturally formed Materia instead. Much rarer and sometimes less useful than the synthesized kind, but far less harmful to the planet. She was a hypocrite in many regards, but this was not one of them.
She hadn't been thinking about it at the time, but what she just said to the girl made her sound like a psychopath. It was the opposite, really. She didn't want to ever forget the lives that she took. That would lessen their sacrifice. The meaning that their lives held to both themselves and their loved ones. She closed her eyes for a moment, sighing softly. The girl took a defensive stance, so it seemed Elfé would have to be the aggressor here. Her statement about flight being an unfair advantage might give away her strategy, but admitting to not using ranged weapons might have put the girl off guard. Well, only one way to find out... Elfé suddenly whipped her arm so quickly that it was little more than a blur, carving a barely visible 'X' into the air which shot towards the girl, aimed just above the top of her head. If she didn't move, the blades of wind would cut deeply into her wings, hopefully enough that it would prevent her from using them for the remainder of the battle, before shifting into a defensive stance of her own, holding her blade diagonally over her head. The same stance that Sephiroth favored.

Aerynn studied her, watching her every move. The aegyl was cautious, after having been put in her place multiple times in battle outside of her home world of Ivalice. She understood very well that she was not strong, that compared to the warriors of the worlds she considered herself on the bottom tier. She did not have advanced magic or brute strength to aid her, but she had her speed and her wits, and Aerynn found that they were just as good as any trick that had been used against her.
She noticed the clench in Wander's hand, a reflex, or a tic, but it meant something. Despite her inability to read her own emotions, Aerynn understood that every action had a purpose. The way she herself had knocked the dirt off her boots was an indication of her nonchalance, though it could have been misinterpreted as a nervous habit, butterflies in her stomach and first fight jitters. The trick was to read these actions correctly. She understood that the clenched hand was a release in energy, but the purpose was unclear. Was Wander nervous, or was she dispelling a power that surged within?
Aerynn didn't know, and despite her hope that it was the former, it was not something that would make her overconfident.
The aegyl listened to Wander's words, shifting her stance so that she was always facing her. The speech did sound psychotic, and Aerynn had little chance to detect any falsehood or a lie, as Wander's face was concealed by her cloak. The aegyl only had the woman's eyes to judge, but they were giving nothing away.
And so Aerynn took the words for what they were at face value. Wander did not like her wings—not many did—but neither did she use magic or guns. There was high chance she was lying, that she could use magic, that she favored projectiles, but one thing was clear: She saw herself at a disadvantage with Aerynn's wings. There was no other reason she would care to make that remark.
Aerynn was on the defensive, now. She knew what it was Wander would target, and her wings gave a twitch at the indication of her knowledge. Wander had given herself away, a foolish move, and it was why Aerynn cared not to speak when it came to her battles. And so she was quiet, opting not to respond, acknowledging nothing—not that she knew Wander's intentions, and not that she planned to use her wings in their fight.
The woman flashed her weapon, and Aerynn watched for any signs of trickery. Being of a sky race, aegyl eyes were sharp and perceptive, and Aerynn could see the 'X' that formed from her move. It was instinct that had Aerynn drop to the ground, spreading her wings flat beside her. Despite her speed, it was not enough. She could feel two lines draw marks across her wings, feel the sting and the warmth of blood as the air slashed her wings. Aerynn looked up from her position, eyeing Wander with a new light. So she claimed not to use magic, but she could still throw her sword and cut the air. So what she spoke before was truth, for the most part. Wander was not one to lie, but she meant to deceive.
She had to close the distance. Ignoring the pain, Aerynn folded her wings and ran towards the woman, her naginata pointed straight at Wander's heart. The aegyl understood her stance was one of defense, and so she was prepared to dance with the woman in close quarters, keeping a close eye on her blade and its search for her wings. It was a basic attack, one meant to test Wander's prowess in close quarters fighting, her blade seeking for any opening while the haft of her weapon blocked any counter that Wander could make.
The aegyl meant to press her, keeping her busy defending while she hoped to wear her down.
Action Box!
1. Dodged Double Cut, for the most part! Damage received, some number subtracted by whatever HP Aerynn currently has. 2. Flurry of Attacks used! Aerynn presses Wander, searching for weaknesses and hoping to gain a few strikes. Cooldown: A post or two? I'm not sure! I've never done this before… ( . .) 3. Aerynn used Perception! She understands Wander is probably a psycho and wants to break her wings. Passive ability.

While still in a defensive stance, she inspected the other girl. The weapon that she wielded was exotic to be sure, but not one that was unknown to Elfé. The soldiers of Wutai used something similar- although she had never faced one in battle, what with being on good terms with the Wutai faction and all. But what was it that the others had called her? A Harpy? A Siren? Elfé had no idea what these things were. Dragons? Sure. Malboros? Of course. But a harpy? Siren? No clue. But she soon realized that she didn't have much time to think about it as the girl rushed towards her.
The first strike went to Elfé it seemed. She didn't know if the girl's wings were injured enough to prevent flight, but if not... then she'd just have to keep at them. Having already assumed a defensive position proved to be advantageous as the girl thrust her spear forward, allowing Elfé to dip her sword a bit, letting the spear deflect off the side of the blade. The woman didn't miss a beat, immediately shoving her full weight against the girl in an attempt to drag the spear into a horizontal position, a forced block. But Elfé was far from pleased, that Sephiroth's technique could prove helpful in any way.
The woman grit her teeth, glaring into the girl's eyes- although with a slightly unfocused look, as if she were looking beyond Aerynn. "This style that I'm using..." Stop. "...is the same one that killed my family. Slaughtered them like dogs." Images of the scene at Junon clouded her mind. The bodies of her men scattered across the control room, their severed limbs gathered in a few messy piles. Blood and other viscera coated the floor and walls, deep gashes carved into the architecture. A scene of wanton brutality that would go on to become a trademark of the man who proved himself to be an enemy of all humanity. Elfé, control yourself. "...You know, they had wings like yours... it makes me... want to rip them off." Felicia, that's enough!
Elfé drew her free arm back, the scarf around her neck slipping down just enough to reveal a wicked smile underneath, reaching from ear to ear. Her eyes widened, pupils becoming slitted with a slight red tinge. She drew her free arm back, thin wisps of darkness flowing off of it- too light for anyone but Aerynn to see them. Elfé thrust her sword towards the ground, intending to shove the naginata away so that she could punch the Aegyl in the throat hard enough to knock her back a fair distance. Whether the attack was successful or not, Elfé would hop back a few feet, dropping her sword while gripping her left wrist tightly in her right hand, hunched over a little. She couldn't see it because of the glove, but the crimson stone embedded in her palm started to glow with a dark light. The woman winced and started to pant softly from the throbbing pain emanating from the Materia as it fed on her lifeforce, partially awakened by the sudden surge of negative emotions. "H-Hnng... d-damn it all..."
---------------------Actions--------------------- 1. Blocked and interrupted the flurry of attacks with a prepared guard. 2. Attempted to punch Aerynn really hard. 3. Staggered, becoming vulnerable for a short time.

Locked in combat, Aerynn held her ground. It was a battle of strength, neither giving an inch to the other. Aerynn's muscles strained, the aegyl pushing with all her might, but she was unable to gain any leverage. Beads of sweat formed on Aerynn's brow, an indication of the tension that held her body rooted in her place, but she would not relent. She would not display weakness, not so early in their fight.
Wander seemed to be having a better time of it. Aerynn could see, as she looked between the slit in the woman's veil, the blank expression in her eyes, the lack of stress or strain that Aerynn knew—despite her own inability to make facial expressions—she held herself. The aegyl's eyes flittered between Wander's, her pupils shifting ever so slightly as they darted from one to the other, but Wander's own were stagnant and unfocused. Aerynn realized with the slightest of trembles that this woman was not even trying. That despite Aerynn putting everything she had into keeping her weapon from yielding, Wander wasn't even breaking a sweat.
The aegyl was not as strong, and though she had come to expect such a thing within these coliseum grounds, the actual realization of it carved a hollow hole in Aerynn's chest.
It all happened in the briefest of moments, until Wander's voice drew Aerynn back to the battle at hand. The aegyl still had a chance. Strength was not the only determining factor when it came to battle. Aerynn would not give up.
Squaring her stance, the aegyl listened, hearing the words Wander spoke and wondering what the meaning or purpose behind it was. So she killed her family. Aerynn had already suspected the woman was slightly unhinged, but this seemed to drive the point home. She redoubled her efforts, refusing to yield, until Wander mentioned how they had wings.
Wings like hers.
That was enough to break Aerynn's composure. The aegyl faltered, quite unsure just what she had truly gotten herself into, when the woman's veil dropped and revealed the vicious smile beneath.
That was when Aerynn came to the conclusion that Wander meant to kill her.
She had felt this way before, once, a long time ago, the way her heart quickened in her chest, the flush that seemed to suffocate her. It was hard to breathe, but for some reason, Aerynn knew it had nothing to do with the battle at hand.
Wander moved, drawing her hand back, and Aerynn could see the thin wisps of darkness that flowed like smoke. Too late she felt the shift in weight. Unfocused and unnerved, Aerynn's naginata fell towards the ground, overpowered by Wander's parry. She was open, and Wander's fist flew towards her.
Once again Aerynn's instinct saved her. With her hands tied to her weapon, she was open to Wander's attack. Fortunately, the aegyl had the benefit of wings to protect her. Quick as lightning, she wrapped one wing around herself, blocking Wander's punch but the force left her sore and bruised, despite the padding of feathers.
Aerynn jumped back at the same time Wander did, both of them putting distance between themselves. There, safe and away, the aegyl watched her, recognizing that perhaps the woman had really lost control of herself. She was intriguing, to say the least, and Aerynn was curious for answers, especially after what she had said, but now was not the time to sit and think on such matters. Her foe was open, clutching her wrist and dropping her weapon. If Aerynn wanted to end this, she had to act now.
Muttering an incantation, Aerynn cast Blind, which would have a veil of darkness settle over Wander's eyes. The aegyl was not very proficient in her magic, but hopefully with Wander distracted and weak, the spell would catch her off guard. Regardless, Aerynn did not wait to see if her spell hit. She ran as fast as she was able towards the woman, spreading her wings in preparation of her next move. Then, like a bird stealing bread out from under her nose, Aerynn grabbed at Wander's discarded sword and launched herself into the air, flying a good distance away before settling back down on the ground with her prize.
If she had the opportunity, she would take a quick respite, securing her own weapon beneath the body wrap against her back, and stretching the wing Wander had punched until the pain and soreness subsided.
Action Box!!
Aerynn used 1. Guard: With her wing! Cause it seemed like the best idea at the time. Suffered damage and now her wing is sore. I'm gonna say it was her left one. 2. Blind: A veil of darkness is cast in front of Elfé's eyes, lowering visibility and accuracy. Duration-TWO POSTS 3. Thief!!: With the quickness of a seagull and the personality to match, Aerynn stole Elfé's weapon! Cheap!

When the light faded from Elfé's eyes, she whipped her head upright and snarled like a wild animal, 'looking' around as if trying to find the source of this madness. Calm down. It's going to kill you if you don't stop this right now. The woman relaxed a little, the growl in her throat fading away as she exhaled deeply. She tried to step forward, only to stumble, her left arm hanging uselessly beside her waist with her listing to that side as if it were an immense weight attached to her body. Although she couldn't see it, her forearm and fingers had turned dark gray, the arm itself rendered completely useless. Did Zirconiade do this? Rob me of my sight? No, this was a spell. From that girl? Then, it's temporary. I need to buy time to recover...
Elfé forced herself upright, struggling in an effort to lift her left arm but soon gave up on that. First, she needed her sword- it had the Long Range and Counter Materias set near the hilt. Without it, she couldn't fight the girl if she took to the skies- nor could she use the Counter Materia to defend herself until this blindness wore off. But without her eyes, she had no real way to find the sword. She couldn't use Zirconiade to track down her opponent either, since it hadn't reacted to her at all to begin with. So there was only one thing that she could do. Make the girl too terrified to take advantage of the situation.
"HIYYYYYYAAAAAAA!"
The woman drew her arm back, focusing most of her strength into her right hand before crouching so that she could slam her fist into the ground. The ground gave way underneath her, the tile of the arena cracking and shattering underneath the force. The crater was only about two feet deep and ten feet across, but anyone within that range would have been blown back by the attack. This, too, was something that she learned during the fight with Sephiroth. The purpose of destroying the arena was twofold- one, it would show her opponent that despite her apparent weakness, she was not weak. The other purpose was to expose the earth beneath the tile. She grabbed a large rock that had been exposed, about the size of her torso. gripping it tightly enough that it's surface cracked. Elfé stood up again, focusing for a moment before flinging the rock towards the girl at an incredible speed.
----------------Actions---------------- 1. Elfé assessed the situation! Blind has one post remaining. Left arm is petrified for two posts, greatly decreasing her speed and agility! 2. Punched the ground like a boss. 3. Chucked a rock at Aerynn. It misses her head by a good seven feet due to the blind. Oh well, good try.

Aerynn faltered in her flight. Wander's punch had taken a larger toll than the aegyl expected, no doubt enhanced by the wisps of shadows that had flowed from the woman's hand. Was Wander a creature of darkness? Aerynn didn't know, but it was just another answer she would have to seek later.
She tumbled on the ground, not gaining as much distance as she had hoped, but when she collected herself and looked towards her foe, she saw the cloud of darkness that had settled over Wander's eyes. The woman was handicapped then. Good. Aerynn took a moment to take a quick respite, securing her naginata beneath the body wrap against her back where she would not lose it, and tested the weight of Wander's sword. It was a simple katana, a bit longer than what Aerynn was used to, but a few swings and she knew she would be able to handle it well enough.
Her wing ached where Wander had punched her, and after the slash and using it for flight, it pained her more than she had expected. As she tested the sword she stretched her wing, until the ache settled into a dull throb. She would have to be more careful and limit its use.
Throughout this time she watched Wander struggle against the blindness, taking note of her useless arm and the staggering. Her foe was weakened and blind. Now was the perfect time to strike.
Holding the sword blade behind her, Aerynn rushed at her target, just in time for Wander to throw her fist towards the ground. The arena collapsed beneath the winged girl, and she found herself falling, the sheer magnitude of Wander's strike sending her back a few paces. WIthout any support beneath her, the aegyl landed awkwardly, fresh pain lancing through her feathery appendage as she landed on her bad wing. She stood shakily, her wing trembling from the pain, and she threw it out a few times in an attempt to dispel the pain.
However, she paused when Wander grabbed a rock and threw it in her general direction, and Aerynn watched with a dull expression as it sailed past her, a good few meters away and far out of harm's reach.
As soon as the rock landed Aerynn was back on the move, a mite slower due to the new terrain Wander had created, but there was not much time before her Blind spell dissipated. Once more, she ran at her target, slashing out with the sword as she passed her, only to turn around and strike at a different angle. Aerynn had to be quick while Wander was still at a disadvantage. It was the aegyl's intent to draw blood, make as many marks as possible in an attempt to wear her opponent down and weaken the woman to a point where she didn't have the energy to move on.
Wander had done a good thing, though, when she had created her crater. It made Aerynn's job harder, and the aegyl was more prone to stumbles and misses. No matter. So long as she could get the marks she got and keep the sword out of Wander's grasp, that was good enough for her.
Action Box!!!
Aerynn used:
1. Roost: Aerynn takes a quick respite because she's able to. Heals slightly, but not really, only eases the pain in her wing where Wander punched her like a beast. Cooldown: Until the next opportunity!
2. Damn it!!: Aerynn has her attack interrupted! She takes damage and the healing from Roost was nullified. Damn it!
3. Lightning Strikes: Aerynn makes multiple passes at Wander, aiming for light slashes that will draw blood and wear her down. I'm calling it Lightning Strikes because lightning NEVER HITS THE SAME PLACE TWICE. Cooldown: Probably not gonna use this again. Note: The attack is hampered by the terrain. Good for you!

From the lack of a pained grunt or surprised cries from the crowd, she figured that her attack had been ineffective. Not that she really expected it to do anything more than startle the girl. She closed her eyes since she couldn't use them anyway, trying to focus on her surroundings... the technique that she was attempting to use went by many names. Yomi. Tengantsu. It was the fabled ability of master swordsmen, to be able to decipher's one's surroundings through the sense of sound and touch alone. After a few moments of intense focus, she realized that it was bollocks. Or at the very least, she wasn't sufficiently skilled to utilize such a thing. But at least the focus did do one good thing- she could hear the all too familiar swish of a blade cleaving the air. Elfé raised her arm in the same direction, blocking the sword with bare flesh. She was more durable than the average human, but far from invulnerable. It cut nearly to the bone, causing her to grunt- partially in annoyance and partially in pain.
The sword pulled back and Elfé pulled back with it, just as the edge whipped around again, cutting into her stomach this time. Thankfully her movement kept the injury from reaching deeper than skin level, but it still burned, blood staining the fabric at the edges of the wound. Both of her arms hung limp now, although she was still fully capable of using the injured right limb. It seemed that the attack subsided for now... but there wasn't much she could do until her vision returned. All of her abilities and Materia relied on being able to actually see the opponent. If she made it out of this, she'd definitely have to look into picking up a few more techniques... or at least some new Materia. With nothing better to do, Elfé turned on her heel and started to run away from where she assumed the girl was. Since she apparently had Elfé's sword, trying to fight was doubly pointless. It was better to just try and buy some time...
---------------Actions-------------- 1. Tried to use her mind's eye to overcome the blind. Mostly failed! 2. Blocked Aerynn's attack. But since Aerynn was using a sword and Elfé is unarmed, she was injured! 3. Attempting to flee for the time being.

The attack had subsided, but only because Aerynn had misjudged a broken tile and slipped when she pressed her weight against it. She fell hard, her wing coming out by pure instinct to cushion the landing, but she could still feel broken tiles and sharp rocks poke through her feathers and jab at her shoulder. That was just an inconvenience to the other injury Aerynn had sustained. Her foot, having been caught between two tiles, twisted at an awkward angle, and while Aerynn had not heard the snap of bone, she knew from the fiery pain that flared in her ankle she had sprained it bad.
She hissed, sucking in air through her teeth as she tried to quell the pain, and turned to Wander to see if the woman would retaliate. Fortunately, she seemed to be doing the exact opposite. She was fleeing, which Aerynn thought was a smart move considering the damage that had been dealt and the disability Wander was suffering through.
There was only one thing for Aerynn to do.
Picking herself off the ground, Aerynn tested her weight against her injured foot. It stung, but it was good enough. She ran after Wander, limping along behind her in a desperate attempt to catch up. It was a race between a woman with two injured arms and a slashed stomach, and a girl with a sprained ankle. The odds were clear, and Aerynn took a note out of her opponent's book and searched the ground for a small, heavy stone. Then, she threw it with all her might at Wander's receding back, right at the level of her head.
Action Box!!!!
Aerynn used 1. Ouch!: Aerynn sprained her ankle! What a klutz! Duration: Entire thread. 2. Pursue: Dark move. Aerynn pursued after her fleeing opponent! It failed! PP: 9/10 3. Skipping Stones (in this case, off Elfé's skull!): Aerynn hurled a rock at Elfé's head. Her accuracy is pretty good—she is an aegyl, after all. Ammo left: Unlimited.

The stillness fooled Elfé into believing that she'd lost her opponent. The sudden impact on the back of her head made it clear that she was wrong, the force causing her to drop onto one knee with a loud grunt. Something warm trickled down the side of her face... blood? It didn't feel like her skull was cracked, but there was definitely an injury there. But that was when she noticed the blow to the head caused the blindness to fade away, which in turn let her see that the fingers on her left hand were twitching. Sensation was returning to the hand as the personification started to fade away, and she could see again! The woman slowly rose to her feet, turning her head to the side to stretch it out with a soft crack.
She turned around to face the girl... and realized that she wasn't fairing much better. The slight limp made it clear that her leg was injured- and she did wield Elfé's sword, as she'd been lead to believe. But the injuries she sustained were starting to slow her down. It was time for her to end this fight so that she could recover the strength that Zirconiade had stolen. She slowly started to march towards the winged girl, raising her right arm and clenching her fist tightly enough that the leather glove squeaked. It was in a position that she could quickly move it to defend if needed, but she was prepared to go on an all out offensive rush.

Strike. It hadn't been a perfect hit, but it was good enough, the stone grazing Wander's temple instead of a solid smash at the back of the head that Aerynn had wanted. Still, the aegyl would take what she could get, and it was effective enough. Wander stumbled, falling to her knees and leaving her vulnerable. She was a fair distance away, but still Aerynn tried to close it. The sooner she could end the fight the better, before Wander reached her breaking point and found a reserve of strength to pull from. It seemed everyone had one all nicely tucked away in their pocket. When Wander stretched her neck and turned, Aerynn limped to a halt, realizing she had done too little too late. Despite cutting her arm nearly to the bone, slashing her stomach, and hitting her in the head with a stone, the woman still managed to rise, face her, and start walking her way. The aegyl took a step back, and limped. It was an unconscious move, one that Aerynn didn't even realize she had made until she felt the pain flare in her ankle. She shifted her stance, so that her weight was off her bad foot, and watched her opponent. Something seemed off. The way Wander strode with such purpose and confidence, raising her arm and clenching her fist as if Aerynn had dealt a mere scratch rather than cut so deep she had almost reached the bone. She was stronger than Aerynn gave her credit for. Stronger than the first test that had their weapons locked together, and stronger than the punch she had thrown towards the ground to make that crater. It was clear this woman meant to strike her down, and Aerynn wasn't sure that even with a sword behind her, she would come out on top. All Wander had to do was catch the blade and wrench it from her grasp. Still, there was one trick she could do. Spreading her great wings, Aerynn began to flap, kicking up dust and sand as she sidestepped in a circle around Wander. The small, isolated sandstorm would lower visibility and make breathing a discomfort, which were two things that could give Aerynn an advantage in this final show down. Raising her scarf above her mouth and nose, Aerynn entered the storm and engaged. Action Box!!!!!Aerynn used 1. Limp: Aerynn limped around! Get off that foot, you're going to seriously injure yourself! Duration: Entire thread. 2. Sandstorm: Aerynn used her wings to kick up a sandstorm! Duration: Aerynn rolled a d20 ( link). The effects last 20 rounds. Or one, doesn't really matter. 3. Engage: Aerynn's here to fight! Duration: 1 post Spell Cool Down7 posts remaining!

The only response Elfé gave to the small sandstorm was an annoyed grunt. She still had her cape tightly wrapped around her head, which kept most of the sand away from her face and kept her breathing relatively easily. Her arm drew back further while the fingers on her left hand started to flex freely- her body had recovered from the energy that Zirconiade had drained from her as punishment for letting her emotions run out of control. Which meant that it was time to end this farce. "Sorry... but I'm taking my sword back."
When she saw the dark form of the winged girl appear in front of her she dashed forward and thrust her right fist out to meet her face. Whether the attack was successful or not, she would draw her left arm back this time, a loud vrrrrrrrrrrrrn ringing out as her arm started to light up, the small purple and yellow stones embedded into her arm shining brightly as they activated, the dark aura returning as Zirconiade added it's own power to the attack. Without a moment's hesitation, she'd suddenly let loose with a barrage of punches, planning on injuring the girl enough that she would drop the sword, although the strain of the attack caused the wound on Elfé's chest to bleed a bit more freely than before... -----------------------------Actions--------------------------1. ELFE PUNCH ICHI. 2. ELFE PUNCH SAN; Double Blow [2 Post CD] 3. ELFE PUNCH NANA; Quad Blow [4 Post CD]

Through the howl of the wind and the billowing of sand, Aerynn heard the warning loud and clear. It was enough to prepare herself for danger, as she knew she was engaging the threat rather than initiating the attack. It was a stupid move upon retrospect, but Aerynn believed that if she were quick enough, if she could make a move that Wander would not expect, she had a chance of catching her opponent off guard. It was better to be a hunter than the hunted, and Aerynn did not take well to being thought of as a sitting duck.
She saw Wander through the sand at the same time the woman saw her, the cloak light but the green combat attire a sharp contrast to the blowing sand. When the woman rushed forward, Aerynn wasted no time, knowing full well that even unarmed, Wander could pack quite a punch behind her fists. The last thing Aerynn wanted was to be on the receiving end of those knuckles.
Leading off on her good foot, Aerynn tucked her shoulders and rolled forward, tumbling past Wander's legs to end up behind her. As she landed and pushed herself to her feet, the sword went out in a desperate attempt to slash at Wander's backside. It was a short-lived victory, and Aerynn wasn't sure if she had even made the hit before her face exploded in pain.
The woman had pivoted with her, catching the aegyl off guard with a vicious hook that had her seeing stars. Aerynn stumbled in an attempt to regain her balance, but in doing so she was forced to put her whole weight on her sprained ankle.
Fire erupted at the base of her foot, and that was when Aerynn knew it was over.
The aegyl faltered, unable to square herself off and put up a proper defense to the rest of Wander's punches. It was quick and merciless and after the third hit Aerynn wasn't even sure where the woman's fists were falling. She tried curling her wings in a desperate attempt to protect herself but it was too little too late. Wander had already breached her defenses and she was inside the aegyl's target zone.
Aerynn lost count after the fourth strike.
She didn't know when it had happened or how it came to be, but she realized at some point she was rolling, her wings and skin grating against the coarse Coliseum ground. It took a moment to pass before she found she had come to rest, her body spread out and a wing folded awkwardly beneath her. She blinked bleary eyes, her vision coming back to her along with the rest of her senses. She was in pain, deep excruciating pain, but still she tried to assess the situation. Her face was numb, but she could still recognize the laceration that had been drawn across her brow, the gash opened by nothing more than Wander's fists. Her nose felt like it had fallen off, but if the metallic taste that entered her mouth was any indication, Aerynn realized she was fountaining blood. Hopefully her nose hadn't been broken. Her jaw ached, and her tongue went to investigate a sore spot. The tooth moved forward, and Aerynn made a poor attempt to pull it back to where it belonged. Leave it alone, she told herself, and they could heal it after the battle.
A cacophonous sound fell down around her, and with a sinking feeling at the pit of her stomach that Aerynn wasn't sure was just sickness from the pain, discovered that the crowd had erupted into tumultuous applause. For the first time, Aerynn's face broke into a grimace. They were cheering, cheering for her pain, for the defeat of the harpy. That didn't matter to her. She had never been a favorite anyway. What troubled her was the fact that this was how it was to be. Enter a competition of might and lose in the first round. Was this really her standing when it came to the warriors of the worlds? Had she really spent the last three years in search of her soul only to find out that she was as weak as a newborn fledgeling? After everything that had happened, after her encounter with the ice queen, after Kuja left her body broken at the base of a mountain, and after the show of strength that drove her and Aile to leave with their tails between their legs, Aerynn refused to believe it. She was not weak. She would not lose.
The battle was not yet over. Aerynn's head rolled, her eyes seeking Wander, and found with stoic pleasure that the sandstorm she had kicked up was still in effect. She had lost the sword, though. That was a disappointment. Aerynn must have dropped it when she received her beating. Still, more than likely the sword was hidden somewhere in the storm, and Wander lost within its trap as well. If the sands continued to blow, then it would be difficult for her to retrieve it, and she would leave the storm again unarmed. Not that that would put Aerynn at an advantage, but the aegyl would take what she could get.
Then, once Aerynn found the strength to rise, they could continue this to the end.
