Continuation of THIS thread.Olette stared at "Sora". She didn't know how foolish she was being. She didn't care how irresponsible this was. She was falling fast for a lie that was wrapped in ribbons and bows. She wanted to believe it so badly that she ignored the pounding of her heart and the clammy sweat on her hands. She wanted this. She dreamed of this moment, right here, beneath the twilit sky.
Sora missed them. But her mind stubbornly didn't believe it. If he truly missed them, wouldn't he have come back? Wouldn't he have flown from his world and said something... visited before this? She could hear her mother again, scowling. "Stop being such a little girl Olette!" She was just being emotional, Olette quickly reasoned. Sora was here now. He was here and talking of things she had fantasized about.
Castles in the sky. Undersea worlds. Sprawling cities. Captivating landscapes. If she were any other girl she might have swooned at the thought. Her eyes were wide and large, seeping in what little he gave her, lapping up the mystical tales like a dying dog. She was gone already, her mind seeing what worlds he was talking about as if she had been there too. Worlds she drew in her notebooks when no one was looking. Taking notes about strange occurrences when Pence was talking to Hayner about the Struggle Tournament. She knew about other worlds and she was obsessed with the thought.
Who would want to leave here? ME! she wanted to scream. Olette wanted to leave. She wanted to fly on the wings of a ship and leave this place. She had to. She had too many questions that needed to be answered.
"Sora, I would love to see those worlds too one day," she murmured quietly, as if it was a deep, dark secret.
And maybe it was. She certainly didn't discuss it with the others. She kept her obsession quiet, tucking it beneath her heart where it would remain locked. She tucked a strand of wavy brown hair behind her ear and looked to her yellow shoes that were dirty from continued use. She felt so foolish all of a sudden. Sora didn't care if she wanted to see other worlds. He had the Twilight trio stay in their place before, why would he care now?
Why now, after he left them?

Evil tastes the tears of fear! tearing down your helpless fate
Theme: Sinister Sundown Tagged: Vanitas, Olette Comments: He hopes you take the bait. |
The emotional hurricane this girl felt was so delicious and satisfying. Vanitas had learned long ago when being near the Princesses Cinderella, Snow White, and Aurora that young girls who romanticized things always seemed to be the most wonderful of people to drink the emotions from. They were simply emotional oceans waiting to funnel into him so that he might use those emotions to spawn the Unversed. This girl would prove to be an unending fountain if taped just right, and it seemed he was hitting home with the worlds and false promises he made her. Yet not all his words were false. He had told her he wished he could take her away to the other worlds, and that had been a truth. He did indeed want to take this girl away from everything, right to where he wanted her so that she might be thrown into the jaws of darkness itself.
There was one emotion that ticked trouble though within the girl. She was concerned and confused. She seemed to be wondering something about why Sora had been away so long and not visited them. Why hadn't he, if he was this supposed magical friend who solved everything, hmm? Certainly not someone that his reputation seemed to hold if this was the case. He watched as a locke of hair was brushed behind her ear and her face fell quietly after a short whisper of wanting to see other worlds, and at that Vanitas could no longer hold back his smirk. Much as he tried, he could only just barely conceal the evil within his smirk, trying quickly to change his expression to one of the dorky ones he hoped Sora might have given, based on what people told. A bright smile and eyes shut, hands behind head and slightly tilted. Unknowingly it was his signature expression, Vanitas hoped it would cement in this girl tht he was Sora and no one else.
“I can show you,” he said in his false bright tone, swinging his head to the other side and reopening his eyes with a chuckle. “Then you can finally claim you saw other worlds. It's not hard to travel their either.”
Behind Olette opened yet another dark portal, it's purple and black colors swirling and enticing. It would be like a portal to her salvation, to a chance at another world. “Right through there is a world with a beautiful white castle that floats magically in the sky. It's massive with a beautiful moon and stars in the sky.” He had to play this and sweeten the deal as much as he could, make her want to go there, to walk through that portal. What Vanitas described as a world was not unlike the truth, as the world was indeed a place with a Castle that floated white in the skye with a moon and stars as Backdrop, but it was a world that was neither beautiful or safe. Such was the World That Never Was, home o the nobodies and Hundreds upon hundreds of heartless Shadows and NeoShadows. Vanitas had only been to the world when summoned by Master Xehanort, but he knew how to send her right where he wanted, to the very top of the World that never was. With luck, she would soon be surrounded by Nobodies and Heartless.
And that was if the Darkness of the Corridor did not get to her heart first in it's unprotected state. “I'll be right behind you along the way and beside you, but it's a great place with very little to no dangers.” He said with a false encouraging smile. With luck she would walk through on her own. If luck was not on Vanitas' side... then he would be forced to shove her through, and alter the destination for one of the dungeons of the castle.
“Go on. I promise, I'll be right here beside you.”
A Perfect Lie.

template by synchronicity

Once upon a time, Hayner told her that no matter where they went they would always be together. Olette remembered that day so well. They were sitting on the Clocktower, swinging their legs over the side, feeling the kiss of the summer winds, eating their favorite ice cream. It was a magical moment. One she vowed never to forget, because she believed in those words. But now, she wasn't so sure.
What had happened to the trio? They still talked about the Struggle Tournament in passing. They still met up from time to time. Yet, something had changed. They were no longer little kids playing cops and robbers. They had grown into adults, contorted into something unrecognizable. They were Seniors in high school, pushing themselves to their limits to achieve impossible goals. College. A bright future. As Hayner and Pence rambled on and on about applications and visiting the nearby colleges, Olette could only stare out into the distance. No one knew that she hadn't applied for one college. Perfect little Olette was destined for a bright and shiny future. She had the grades to get into any college she wanted. She could flee her home life and settle down far away from Twilight Town and lead a normal, mundane life.
But she wanted more.
She wanted something else, something she once thought impossible. Once upon a time she would have been happy to fill out dreadfully long applications and write out essays and go to school like the good girl she was. She could have done it all in an oblivious cloud, happy to be moving forward. She had dreamed of the day she could bid her mother farewell, kiss her grandmother on the cheek and leave this place. To pack up a little suitcase filled with all her belongings and run away.
Yet, now, she wanted something even bigger. She wanted other worlds to dance in, to be free of Twilight Town and it's never ending sunsets. She wanted to know what the moon looked like. She wanted to kiss fresh dew on the grass, frosty still from a waking sun.
She thought of her mother. She was probably off somewhere with a stranger, cooing sweet nothings in his ear. She might have forgotten she had a daughter from the booze on her red lipstick and the possibility of being with someone she didn't know.
She thought of her grandmother sick in the hospital, tubes sprawling from her pale face and thin arms. A grandmother that couldn't remember her name anymore and missed a cat that's been dead for years. "Muriel!" she would cry in her sleep. "Muriel, come home." And Olette could only pat her hand, helpless and small in that moment. Because she couldn't bring Muriel back from the dead and she couldn't make her grandmother any better. Olette waited in stiff chairs and sat by her grandmother's side, right where her mother should have been, and assured her Muriel was safe someplace else. In a little cat heaven maybe or a magical land where she could run free. And Olette would cry a little for lying. And she would cry a little for herself, but not much, because she was the responsible one. The one that had to carry these burdens. If she didn't she was afraid her world would break and crumble beneath her feet. So, she lied about the dumb cat and acted like everything was fine, just fine.
Everything is fine.
She thought about Hayner and Pence. Pence, who asked her to pose for him one day. She remembered stretching her arms out, swathed in a stupid dress, and having the twilight sun hit her eyes just right. But Pence stopped the photo shoot, lowered his camera and stared at her. He asked, "Why are you crying?" She had no answer. She didn't know. The tears welled in her eyes, but did not fall. She missed something. She wasn't sure what it was. Hayner had laughed at her. Told her she was being a stupid emotional girl and to get over it. She did just that, she sucked in her stomach and fell back into her rigid pose and they didn't talk about it again.
Olette even thought about the boy who haunted her dreams. The one with the blurry face and sweet smile. In her dreams, they were friends. In her dreams, she missed him and always tried to catch him before he inevitably walked away into the shadows, not even saying goodbye. He hadn't even said goodbye. That tore her up the most, left deep scars on her heart she couldn't erase.
He never said goodbye.
She watched Sora carefully. His smile was easy as ever, his face sweet and sincere. But Olette caught that one moment when something changed. The slightest hint of something malicious in his smile, a single second where something felt wrong. Her heart screamed to run away. It was a sudden moment of panic, like being hit with lightning and not knowing what to do next. But the moment passed and he was Sora again. Sweet, innocent Sora. She wanted to believe in him so badly that she was blinded. She couldn't see reason anymore.
That was when the portal opened. A swirling mass in front of her, pulsing with darkness. She was naive. She was stupid. She was about to make the biggest mistake of her life. She stepped forward and drew up her hand and plunged it into the portal. It felt cool and... evil somehow. She slowly stepped back and faced Sora, her expression determined and bitter.
"Why now Sora?" She demanded loudly. "Why turn up now? Why do you want me to see the other worlds now, after all this time?"
Maybe she wasn't as blinded as she seemed.

Evil tastes the tears of fear! tearing down your helpless fate
In an all too fleeting moment, it had seemed as though Vanitas was to have something go right without too much struggle. He might have had to act in a complete opposite manner of himself, but it would be worth it if he could just get this girl to be his first victim. Throw her into the chaos of other worlds... Hell, if she survived, she might even prove to become a warrior who would try and challenge Vanitas down the line as a means of getting revenge. That was an emotion Vanitas only had tasted but once, an emotion Ventus once had, but swiftly kicked away. It perhaps was the sweetest emotion out there, hinting at how true the old adage about revenge was. Whats more, it was a powerful emotion. Yes, the very same sweet emotion was the most powerful Vanitas had tasted. And he should know, it was the emotion that fueled him now. Revenge against Ventus, Aqua, Terra, Mickey... all of them.
But in that all too fleeting moment where Vanitas had the girl within his clutches, when her hand was through the portal and she seemed ready to step through, there was that Hurricane again. She turned, her face with determination. Was there anger too in there? So it seemed. Perhaps thi girl then had had some sort of crush on Sora in a way? Or maybe she was just too much of a romantic and desperately needed a dose of reality. Life was not some fairy book tale. The white knight did not always come to whisk the petty hard-working girl away to her dreams. Sometimes, life downright sucked and went horribly, horribly wrong.
Turning away from Olette to hide the anger at her insolence, he contorted his features and put up yet another emotional mask. One of sorrow and regret. THe emotions came so easy to him. So perfect. In fact, the sorrow might have been somewhat genuine, if long forgotten by Vanitas. But he turned back to her, the saddened, regretful look on his face. He spoke lowly, trying to put up this facade yet growing tired of it. “I wasn't strong enough,” Vantas whispered, trying to fake this sorrow and regret as best as possible. Think think think, what could he say that would sound convincing? Keybearers trained under the tutelage of a master, yes? “I wanted to show you guys right then and there, Right after I met you guys. I wanted to show all my friends some of the beautiful places I found... but I wasn't strong enough. There were dangers, and I couldn't protect everyone. I sought someone to teach me to be stronger, to fighter harder to protect those I cared about.”
The lying through his teeth was getting painful, and if she didn't buy this, he would have to end this charade and just deal with it his own way. He changed to sorrow to happy, joyful, and spoke again. “But I'm stronger now! I'm better and I can defend you guys now! I wish I could have done it before, but now I can! I swear!”
C'mon, buy it you stupid girl... |

She grew up too fast for her skin and was too smart for the other kids. She hung out with boys and hated dresses. Her mother left her home with her grandmother, who still didn't know her name. Once upon a time, her life was nothing more than sunsets and ice cream and Hayner and Pence.
But that was once upon a time.
Now she stood rigidly in front of Sora. She soaked up his lies through her pores and her green eyes flickered with understanding. She wanted to believe him with all her heart. She wanted it all to be so simple. She closed her eyes for a second, her mind whirling, and then she opened them again.
Okay," she muttered quietly. "As long as you can protect me."
Didn't she know better? Didn't she sense the evil leaking from "Sora"? Didn't she know that she had to protect herself in this big scary world?
Didn't she know?
Olette turned toward the portal and stuck her hand inside it again. She felt the cool air on the other side, an eternal emptiness she couldn't readily identify. Her brown hair waved from the darkness slipping from the portal, her lips parted to drink it in. She was going to step through and answer her questions. She was going to find out the truth.
She was tired of the lies.
"You're not Sora," she hissed, tossing back the stranger a hateful look.
Then, she stepped inside the portal. Olette knew that wasn't Sora--it was a mistake she had made, but she listened to her heart. She knew Sora's smile and his laugh and the way he carried himself. Olette had dreamed of him every night, his brown hair and deep blue eyes. Whoever this was, whoever she had mistaken Sora for, was a bad person. She could feel it in her bones the way some people could predict the weather.
She ran. She didn't know where she was running to or how far or how fast. But she ran. The swirling colors made her sick and she had a slight tilt to her steps, trying in vain to find a door. An opening. Anything. She couldn't call for help, because her heart stung and heaved. Something was wrong with this place. Something was slowly killing her, she could feel her heart squeezing in pain. She didn't know it was the darkness. Olette didn't know anything about darkness.
But she knew about light. She could see an end to the swirling, sickening tunnel. A door made of light was ahead. She pumped her legs faster. She had to reach the door before the stranger. Before the boy with the cruel smile caught her.
She was putting it all on the line--her life, her heart, and her future. Just for this one moment. To be free and see the worlds and get her answers.
But would she make it? Evil tastes the tears of fear! tearing down your helpless fate
Theme: Sacred Moon Tagged: Vanitas, Olette Comments: Vanitas has left the thread. On a side note, LOVE the Post template Olie.
She took the bait. This idiot girl drank in the sickeningly sweet lies and false promises that Vanitas made whilst pretending to be a stronger Sora. She believed him because her emotional locked heart wanted too, and that was the downfall of such emotions and hearts. Truth be told, from the short conversations Vanitas had had with Xemnas about Nobodies, it made everything about the lack of a heart somewhat appealing. No emotional ties to bog one down. Yet there was also no tru fueling of rage or hate. No longing for revenge. Emotions were what was sweet and gave Vanitas his power, so taking away his emotions... well it was why he wouldn't ever actually elect to become a nobody. Being a “half-heart” as that heartless once called him was much, much more appealing. That way he could drink of the emotions other gave and feed off his own as well. After all, his emotional pets were a beautiful thing.
Vanitas watched as the girl once more stuck her hand inside, and then turned and watched her emotions fling nto hate an despise. She knew...? She had given no indication, and yet knowing that he was not Sora, had clearly deceived her, and probably had bad intentions, She still was stepping through the portal. And just as she stepped through, Vanitas heard screams of teenage boys coming towards the mansion. He glanced to the gate nearby, closed, and watched as two boys, one with spiky blonde hair and camo pants, and the other rather rotund and with a headband, began banging on the gate to try and open it, clearly distressed at seeing what was no doubt their friend just step through portal. Both watched as Vanitas smirked and he closed the portal on this end, preventing little Olette's return, and then put his mask on. He could see them mouth one word, clearly a question.
Sora...?
But Vanitas did not wait to see as they tried to open the gate. These two boys would simply know that their friend had walked clearly into a trap, with Vanitas opening a second portal to arrive at the world mere moments after Olette, stepping off into Naught's Skyway and looking down over a large, dark city. The darkness that permeated this world only existed further with the nothingness that permeated it, and Vanitas smirked beneath his mask as he saw the first glimpse of Olette stepping through into the Castle That Never Was. Vanitas steped back through his own portal, altering the destination and leaving the stupid girl to her fate. If she wanted to see worlds, then he would show her. And this world would show her clearly the dangers that existed in all.
For the girl got her wish, and now she would see her eyes open. |
