Jovial Prince of Thieves
Rosa rushed off as Zidane called out to her. He rushed behind her, reaching out his hand to grab her arm, but she was off like a Fang chasing after a Mu. He watched as her fingers slipped beyond the reach of his gloved hands. It was understandable. She was looking for her lost love. The determination of a person when they wanted to reach the one they loved was powerful. It kept him from dying after his painful meeting with the vines of the Ilfa Tree. He ran out to give chase, but paused and turned to the older woman. Zidane smirked and patted his fist over his chest.
"Don't worry, I'll keep her safe, I promise!" He really had to learn to hold his tongue over things like that, but he meant it!
He moved his finger to dig into his collar as he raised his neck and loosened the jabot. He whistled out, alerting Choco of his approach. The grazing bird raised his head and turned as his friend rushed toward him. He waved out toward his friend. Choco warbled and lowered his head and body as Zidane rushed toward the. It seemed it was time to go and that it was urgent. The thief placed his hand on the bird's back and leapt of the ground with ease. He settled on the bird's back, using just his legs to hold on as the bird had no proper saddle nor reins. He shifted his weight. His partner could easily read his feelings and thoughts through their bond alone and years of regal partnership.
He led Choco toward he square where he had left some of his gear behind. There was no point in chasing after Rosa. Taking to the assumption guards are the same every country, he was not going to just be able to run after Rosa easily. They looked to him with great disdain so it was not going to be a matter he could simply resolve. He knew better, it was the nature of his business. Some were keen enough to know something was a bit off concerning him, but just what always stood to be the primary concern. How should they treat someone so happy and who easily reaches out to help another without consideration for compensation? He did not simply do so, sometimes anyway.
Changing out of his costume the thief dawned his usual attire. His daggers' holster was tightened around his waist and to boy stood ready for action. In the stead of the ribbon around his jabot, a fine treasure slung from gold-colored beads. The brass "mask" served as a tie and the tassel at the end was accompanied by beads of varying shades of blue. His navy gilet was buttoned down and the layers of belt toted his heavier satchel that did well to keep him balanced, overall, even if he managed to over-encumber himself with stolen goods. He flicked back his hair and patted down his collar. Mounting Choco again he road off back toward the castle where he would wait for Rosa.
-------------- --------------
No matter what path they picked a terror awaited them. Through the skies or through the magical road: the Black Chocobos waited.
Above the skies of Mysidia men mounted the flying ratites hid among the clouds. Fully armord in black-stained gear resembled the official armor of the Baron's Dark Knight brigade, but it was meant to be a chilling reminder as each mounted soldier wore the name of a comrade long fallen during the war, each man present a relative of the defeated kin. Armed with lances and crossbows they waited. Through the road hid an army of Imps trained to attack the Queen upon her arrival. The imps were marked by the rebellion with strange runic symbols that painted their horns.

It was dusk, and along with the darkness came the light of the stars and the moon, slowly peeking out of the dimming horizon, engulfing the sun with enough darkness to put it to rest. Rosa wrapped her travelling cloak tighter against herself, her bow slung behind her back like an old friend and her eyes twinkling with determination. She met Zidane outside the castle gates, a soft smile on her lips as he beckoned her towards the village square. She straightened her shoulders, an air of royalty exhuming from her in strong waves as she walked through the throng of waiting villagers, every now and then nodding at one person who bowed his or her head down. This is the time when she will restore the peace in her home, her Kingdom, and she would at last be able to do it with her beloved. She vowed to bring him back safely, whatever it took.
"Zidane, are you sure that you are fine with coming with me tonight? This is not your fight anymore, and I don't want to endanger your life especially as you are in my territory. You are a dear friend and it is a sour payment for your help if I led you to your demise." She was worried for the young man; he had his life still laid in front of him and she would never find it in herself to let him succumb to a fate that ended his life. With every crunch of her boot, they drew nearer towards the small house wherein laid the entrance to the Devil's Road. It was a sure way to Mysidia and they would reach Mt. Ordeals in record time through there. No matter how dangerous it was, Rosa had went through it once, nothing could stop her from doing it again.
Her mother was waiting at the end of the throng, and she felt her eyes misting at the sight of the wise woman. The marks of age on her face and hands would never hide the fire in Lady Joanna's eyes as she moved forwards and pulled the Queen into a hug. Not as a commoner, but as her mother.
"Be careful, Rosa, and bring Cecil back." Her mother whispered, giving her a soft kiss on her forehead before tucking the shard of the water crystal back in her hands; the same one she lost in Zidane's world. She had then gave the crystal back to her mother for safekeeping when she was Queen, but having it back in her hands made her feel warm, like her own mother was coming with her in her conquest.
"I will mother, please take care of Ceodore." She whispered back, before tucking the crystal into her pouch, turning back to face Zidane, "Ready?" Her hand was on the knob of the door, ready to turn and when Zidane gave his yes, she would go in, her cloak billowing a final time in the cold, evening wind, before being engulfed by the darkness that awaited.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane grinned and dismounted Choco when Rosa arrived. He would not be keen on taking a trip through such a dangerous sounding place and neither would Zidane make him. Chocobos were pretty sensitive to these sorts of things, much in the way Moogles were. The thief adjusted his gear, having changed back to his usual, loose, attire. He had his cloak settled on his shoulders, hood down so he did not look any more sketch than he would. It was more functional and would be much easier to move. The Devil's Road was likely not named for its outstanding room service, that was something Zidane was sure of. When Rosa came about she looked more than ready. Though the thief was was a stranger to the world, Rosa was not one and a dear friend he was ready to give his limbs for, his tail, or his life. At her silly comment he laughed.
"My life, is for me to give." He gave a wink an nudged her gently and smiled. "Plus there's no fun in living such a boring life, right?" He smiled and reached up to pat her shoulder. "Plus, you'll regret not taking this chance, and there is no way I'm going to let a girl run off into danger. It goes against my nature." He smirked and motioned for her to lead on.
In the crowds a member of the Black Chocobos watched as Rosa strode into the building with another individual. Having fully expected the Queen to head on alone, they only had so many men at the trap. As soon as the Queen was out of sight, the usurper sank back into the crowd and headed to the Baron Gates. Choco warbled and cocked his head at the strange man. He smelled familiar. He smelled of Gysahl Greens. The curious bird padded after the man with leery caution. Something was strange about him. Making his way to the exit the rebel travelled on to the forest were waited his Black Chocobo, perched atop a tree with a dangerous look in its eyes.
The Rebel pilled a handful of Greens from his satchel to beckon the Chocobo down. With the gift of flight the ratite flapped its powerful wings and landed down in the grass with an aggressive slam of its talons. It chomped down the greens voraciously before the man made motion to mount the bird. The black feathered miscreant let out a violent Khew!, which caused the man's head to turn. There, peeking through the trees was another Chocobo, Choco in fact. Because of his brighter coloration he looked to be a White Chocobo. The thief's bird had no reigns nor signs of ownership so it indeed looked no more suspicious than any wild Chocobo that likely smelled the Greens.
"Come on, it's just a wild 'bo. We gotta tell the others that the Queen's got an entourage an' make sure both of them don't make it out Devil's Road." He pulled the Black Bird's reigns and it moved of jump up onto the branch, powerful legs kicking of the ground. Choco watched as the Black Chocobo spring-boarded off the branch and into the sky where it took off toward Mysidia. Choco warbled in a sad tone. Did this mean Zidane and Rosa were in trouble?
------------- -------------
After Rosa bade her farewells they entered the building. It was strange to Zidane, but the site of the magic circle was at least a familiar one, even if a bit of an untrusted sight. He kept up his bravado so she did not worry. The thief would soon find out why it was so indeed named the Devil's Road. The road was usually sealed off due to its dangers, but Baron and Mysida have long since ended their quarrel and those that had permission from the authoritative figures could use the dangerous road as a means of rapid travel in the case of emergency. If ever was an emergency, was the discovery of the Baron King's location. Had he fallen injured during a pilgrimage to the ancient graves of the Great Kings? It was all too possible. Even a great Knight could fall to the whims of the winding paths and fangs of the hungry Zu.
------------- -------------
As soon as the pair got of Devil's Road they would find themselves in the Hall of Prayer a Black Mage, one who had long since held a grudge against Baron and its Dark Knights of the Red Wings, would seal the gate closed and the Hall would be locked, the Mysidans at peace with Baron's new rule, unaware of the coup.
"Well, ready... brethren?" A Black Mage would step up holding a twisted oak staff. Two other White Mages stood in the closed off room as well to await Zidane and Rosa, having got the message hours ago of the addition to her party. The Black Chocobos would stop them here.
It was in due time, for now Zidane and Rosa would have to push toward he stamina draining Devil's Road. Every step drained life from their bodies.
------------- -------------
While Rosa and Zidane travelled the deadly road, another visitor came to see Ceodore of his father. A sailor, ragged and exhausted. His ship and almost sunk trying to dock the deadly cliffs surrounding Baron. He fell before the young Majesty's feet and dropped his head to the ground.
"My young Prince! I bring atrocious news..." The sailor shook and could not speak, body chilled by the sea waters and mind twisted with horrors he has witnessed. "King Cecil... his body was found in the Town of Mythril...my Lord -- I." The man choked on his words as he stood and produced the Sword of Light, a weapon only carried by Paladins.
On the Sailor's arm was a a tattoo of a Black Chocobo, his other arm three rubies tattooed into in his flesh. The Sailor had been sent in to lure the young prince from his path.... Many Black Chocobos posed as guards and would wait for the moment until the Prince's guard was down and take over the castle. As soon as they got the single. One of their men watched Mount Ordeal from the boat with a telescope. With the night coming the single bathed in fire spewing from its top, would be most obvious for hundreds of miles, for many a sign of the end.

The strange boy's words was both disconcerting and comforting for the Baroness. She turned back and smiled at him as the door closed, the magical circle in the middle of the pillars inside the room glowing serenely around them and she felt the familiar wash of teleportation magic slowly taking her over. She opened her eyes to find both of them standing inside the familiar, dark corridors of the Devil's Road, beckoning Zidane to follow her, "Be careful, Zidane. I know this path is more or less safe since we made sure it was for the mages of Mysidia after Cecil's reign."
Rosa pulled her gaze back to the chasms before her, the light from the small ball of energy that came from her hands emitting a soft, glow; warm as the holy energy it was from. Her every step echoed throughout the corridors, eerily quiet, too quiet for the Queen's tastes.
"Wait." She said, putting up a hand as she reached behind to clasp her bow. It was really strange that they haven't encountered any monster just yet. Usually, the Devil's road is teeming with one goblin or two, those mindless enough to continue pillaging the once, dangerous road. But the mere absence of these creatures had her mind reeling. Her sharp eyes noticed a pinprick of light at the other end of the dark, cobbled path, sending a chill running down her spine. Emerald eyes widened as the light grew brighter, her hands tightening reflexively around her bow as she reached her other behind her to grab an arrow, stepping back at the towering creature.
"Zidane!! Look out!" Rosa only had time to exclaim as a fiery ball sizzled down the place where she had been. She pulled an ice arrow along with two mythril ones and began to load them on her bow, sidestepping as Ifrit lunged towards them both.
But how? Haven't the Eidolons sworn fealty with Rydia after the battle at the other moon? Then why was Ifrit acting strangely? Her mind began to cloud with thoughts that she did never want to have and refused to believe, but right now, her only aim is to get out of the Devil's Road alive.
And without Cecil, her hopes started from slim to none.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane did not thing the place was not so bad, considering the vile name, but as soon as he took a step the pressure hit him. This place, was unfamiliar and carried a shady pressure that weighed down against his chest. He visibly winced as he fought back a choking breathe. It had been a long time since he crossed such a place so vile. Sucking the taste from his mouth: Zidane pushed along after Rosa. She seemed to know this place, which is a good sign. It was not so bad, save for that, initial, feeling disgust.
The walls were beautifully tiled, like a work of art. It was as if this road was originally meant to be a peaceful path in the stead of one of war. The work put into the tunnel seemed to stand opposite purpose of the death that seemed to linger. The empty echoes of his foot falls drummed into his ears like the haunting groan of a behemoth. Something seemed out of place. Low ceilings and the cracks eaten into obscure corners of the passage looked perfect for housing roaming fiends. But, nothing seemed willing to occupy these hollow spaces and abandoned corridors.
---------- ----------
While Rosa and Zidane crossed through the Devil's Road: Choco fled toward the direction of the castle. There the golden bird was stopped by the Black mount owned by the rebel. It seemed the rebel mount knew Choco was no wild 'boar and stood in challenge if his interference. The two ratites stood off. Both were ready to fight for the belief of their friends. While far on the edge of the castle grounds, the Chocobos fought, back in the castle: the sailor would prey on the young Lord's growing insecurities about his mother. Seeding that the stranger was no stranger, and pointed out how he was only just discovered yet spoke to the Queen familiarly and even left with her on a wild goose chase, after all if the King had gone to the great grave of Kings... Would he not tell her?
Implications of the man seducing Rosa into an affair, or worse using the King's absence as a means to obtain the throne, rose over Zidane's head. Not only that, but worries that the Queen's loving heart was being poisoned by this actor, who was unknown by any of the Theater Companies in Baron…
---------- ----------
Zidane came to a stop when Rosa warned him of something amiss. He too had felt something odd, but this was not his home so one would expect such things. In the stead of previous assumptions of inhabiting monsters making targets of the interlopers pon their territory, proven by prior experiences: a fireball launching into their direction. Rosa called out and responded accordingly. In a shocked daze, Zidane would dive out of the path of the flames. Singe marks now licked the tiled paths, smoke raising into the air. The thief's tail had bristled out, the silky hairs standing as stiff as the tail.
Turning his blue eyes toward the enemy the Genome's jaw would fall to hang at the sight of the beast before him. Though the form was slightly different from what he was used to, it was clear that this was the fierce presence of an Eidolon. The heat and bestial disposition slithered down his spine as the snarling licks of flames snaked between the fangs of his jaws as the fiery djinn threatened the pair. The Eidolon was angry. From the boy's experience the Eidolons were beings of good nature, was this one perhaps troubled? Were they seen as the enemy? Was a summoner attacking them?
"Rosa!" Zidane shouted out as he drew his daggers. Were they in the middle of an Eidolon's territory? "Get away!" He was unaware of the knowledge Rosa carried of the spiritual avatars, but this was a dangerous situation.

His warning was heeded almost instantly as Rosa moved away without hesitationm knowing that coming too close to an Eidolon is something only a fool would do. Among all his brethren, Ifrit was the most volatile and violent, remembering how hard it was to take him down without the aid of either Rydia's black magic or Shiva. As a white mage, Rosa felt naked, powerless, and even if her arrows had elemental properties, it would still be hard to take down an eidolon, let alone an Eidolon in a narrow space. Ifrit's heat bounced around the cramped space in billows, making Rosa's cloak stick to her skin as she sweated, letting the icy arrows pelt towards Ifrit, earning a growl from the Djinn.
"Ifrit! Open your eyes; it is me, Rosa, Rydia's friend! Or have you forgotten?" She exclaimed, hoping to reason with the spirit. She was answered by another roar, spitfire flying from Ifrit's eyes and another ball of fire went sizzling in the air, towards her.
She ducked, just barely avoiding the attack, squeezing herself against the wall, hearing the fabric of her cloak sizzle and feeling it burn against her skin. She hastily threw it off, jumping away from the charred cloth as she once again sent arrows through the air towards Ifrit, but she knew her supply would soon run out. She had to think of a way, and think of it fast. She looked towards Zidane, "Are you alright? This shouldn't be happening; Ifrit was on our side!" She wheezed, looking back and seeing Ifrit grin, and she was shaking in fear. She took a step back, realizing the reality of her predicament, her heart thumping in berserk. Her mind spurned towards her son, wondering what he would do....what could he do if she...
No, she can't; her son would be eaten alive by the corrupted words of those who were against her and Cecil's rule. They will slowly make him doubt his own capabilities, and surely wrestle the throne from his rightful grasp. And Rosa would never allow that; she can never let them harm her son. She had to stay alive, even just for Ceodore alone.
She rushed to Zidane, hurriedly whispering her plan, although not yet knowing how to execute it, "Zidane, we have to go; run into the portal on the left, the one on the left Zidane don't you forget. We can't defeat Ifrit without help...all we have left is to outrun him."
But how? Her eyes wavered back to Ifrit, watching as the Djinn haughtily stood, fiery eyes challenging them both to pass, his arms crossed over his chest and his feet firmly planted on the ground. If only they had something of ice, maybe even of water.
Water.
The Queen's hand shot to the small pouch that was tied to her waist, feeling the shard of the water crystal, pulsing with energy. She pulled it out, the glassy material emitting a soft glow as she held it, with each glimmer matching a pulse of hope within herself.
"Zidane, when I say go, run." She whispered, facing the Djinn with newfound conviction, taking care to leave a small space beside her to let Zidane pass through. Ifrit raised an eyebrow, his pupil going down on her hand and his features slowly distorting in realization. But Rosa threw the stone before he could even move.
"GO!"

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane felt the heat against his bare arms. Even though he had barely managed to roll out of the way himself, the air still burned with the Eidolon's fury. His breaths tightened in his lungs as adrenaline began to course its way through his veins. These were not beings to be taken lightly. Rosa made claim of being an ally to him once before, but Zidane knew that had he a new master or his former master become corrupt, even if Ifrit himself began a tool of evil: he would be ally no more.
They stood no chance against an Eidolon in a rage like this. It was if he was in a Trance, but he knew better. Rosa pleaded with the avatar, but it looked like he was not snapping out of it anytime soon. Rosa claimed, with great vindication, that Ifrit was a dear comrade, but the avatar did not seem to thing so. Blue eyes remained focused on the avatar, but his senses poised on the environment and Rosa's position. There had to be a way out, but this place was a veritable, no a literal maze! He glanced to Rosa who seemed to have an idea.
"No way!" He shot down any mention of abandoning her! What kind of man would he be otherwise!?
She was right, there was no way the could defeat an Eidolon, but.... His brows raised. He seemed to be guarding that one spot. Why? He watched as Rosa reached away for an item. He was about to question her intentions, because any sudden move may rouse Ifrit's rage. The thief swallowed the lump in his throat and backed away. He looked to Rosa once more. To any other it looked as if the boy had intent to abandon the white mage…
----------------- -----------------
At the castle seeds of doubt continued to be planted in the young Lord's head. A man who chases a woman still wed by the law was always likely to reach for something greater! Men like that held no loyalties to man or country! After all traveling actors, bards and dancers were well known for their promiscuous natures. They were nothing like the Damcyan bards!
At the same moment, across the sea: Mysidia began to hear unsettling knees. It seems a small scouting party of Red Wing soldiers was found on Musician lands fully armed. A message would be sent to Baron. It held a rather aggressively, accusing tone:
We were once enemies, and now friends, but if the old ways resume once more ....
The message was left as is.
-------------- --------------
Zidane reached into his satchel when Rosa tossed the Water Crystal. By no means would such an attack thwart an Eidolon, but it did well to distract him! When the magical liquid spilled over the flaming avatar steam erupted from the contact of heated skin and fur to the water. Zidane clamped his hand over the mage's pouch. If she would be so obliged: the smaller male would attempt to hoist the Queen over his shoulder and run, run left!! If she would disallow such touch: such protests would yet still be ignored and he made sure not to release her as he took off.
The Eidolon was enraged, but could not spot his prey... at least until the steam cleared.

It had worked, but Rosa had no time to celebrate as she felt rough, yet gentle hands on her waist by her purse, making the Queen's cheeks hot as she blushed profusely at such a direct gesture, "Zidane! What do you think you are doing?!" She exclaimed, having had no time to thrash about as the thief easily slung her over his shoulder like a light bag of gysahl greens, leaving her feet swaying in midair. The Eidolon was still howling in rage, clawing at his arm and eyes as the crystal did it's work, eating at his skin like acid. But they had no time for sure since Ifrit has such great regenerating properties. Rosa could only exclaim as Zidane would start running, "To the left!! Left!" She bade, not knowing where Zidane is going since her vision was still glued to the rampaging Djinn. If Zidane had picked the right turf, which she knew he had, a circle of warm light will envelop them and safely lead them to the other side, clamping down a crystal cover to the path they had gone into.
But after that, came the maze.
One wrong misstep will send them to a dead-end, covering the way they came from until such time they find a way to open it and return to the start. It had been an arduous task for her and her friends when they went through this during the times of war in this world, but since she knew the path at heart, there shouldn't be any problems.
Ifrit chasing them down, though, is making her forget the things she needed to remember.
"Faster Zidane!" She clamored, not even bothered that she was still slung over the young man's shoulder. The Eidolon was gaining speed, going through the way they came, shattering the crystal covers over the teleporters easily like ice, gaining speed. She began dictating Zidane on where to go, in hopes that she could be heard over the racket Ifrit was making with his snarls and growls. She did not know about Zidane, but that was enough to send her flying to the hills, after all, she was no summoner.
-----
The castle was strangely silent. With Ceodore gone, the traitors became more rampant, coaxing one villager at a time to thwart King Cecil if he comes back. The Young Prince was distraught, dropping to his knees in the throne room, clutching at the replica sword, not even noticing it was faux. The boy was too grief-stricken to even care as he ran out of the castle, demanding flight towards the Town of Mythril, almost pleading the captain of the Red Wings to take him there. It was only a few hours when he was gone, yet the revolution was at work. The letter from the suspicious group of people was mistaken as an official and everyone is kept at their toes. The Baronian Royal Trinity was nowhere to be found, it's people left ruler-less and blind. The Black Chocobos were the only ones giving them free crutches.
And once King Cecil comes back, everything will be all too late.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane hated mazes and everything about them! Why could they not just make these sort of tunnels easy access?! Left left right up down! Man it sounded like a bad game of chess!! He was terrible at chess. Though he was pretty clever chess required a whole new set of processes that he was incapable of. He never won at chess, he was too impatient and he sure as hell was not going to hang around and wait for Rosa to plan and plot how to ease an Eidolon's rage. His only thought in mind was to run! He did his best to follow her directions, but Ifirt was hot on their heels! A massive fireball launched passed the two and went out in a crashing explosion when it contacted with the wall. Much of the wall was intact but the burned and licking tongues of flames that now lined the walls with the charcoal marks was a sign of how powerful Ifirt's most common attacks were.
"Shit!" Zidane took another turn as his body dropped lower to the ground as he pushed his speed to its limit.
His body was pushing to its limits, already tensed up from the sudden rush of adrenaline. He could hear as Ifrit moved behind him and began to suck in air. The Eidolon lowered itself to all fours, its claws gripping to the stone ground as it parted its mouth gathering the flames of hell itself at his whim. The swirl of heat could be felt behind him, almost singing the tip of his tail's fur. Rosa likely had a front row seat to the Eidolon's actions as he charged up Hellfire. Glancing around Zidane had no place to hide, but he did have those small fiend hideaways carved into the older sections of wall.
The sizzling of the air around the Eidolon's grand power echoed through the narrow corridors. Zidane spotted a few weak spots from digging fiends nesting in the ceiling. If they collapsed that section of wall they could bury the Eidolon, not for long, but long enough to reach the exit. He had no time to explain it given that the Eidolon was nearly ready to launch his magic. Though the time seemed to slow down beneath the heat of the air, it would take mere second to come to this decision.
"Hold on Rosa!!" Of course that was the only bit of warning the thief allowed before he suddenly kicked off the ground.
He would move to catch his foot into one of the ledges along the wall's moulding and grip his gloved fingers tightly into a narrow space where a massive spider currently inhabited. The annoyed spider bit his finger, piercing the fabric of the glove. He winced and glanced back to Rosa who was facing the other direction, the direction he needed her facing.
"Rosa, fire into the wall, there!" If she fired straight ahead they could collapse the wall and make their way to the last portal into the sacred temple of Magic.

Whole hero and heroine suffered their trial of faith in one another, Baron seemed to crumble without the leadership of their Royal Trinity. Seeds of suspicion were sewn into the locale as they were introduced with ideas that the neighboring countries they were once at war with plotted revenge for the former King's ill deeds.
Cecil had been a good king for them and had repaired all the damage done by the former King and his brother, but something fearful still hovered over their respective heads. Just what did it mean for them to be forgiven? They knew that were they the ones to be attacked by Mysida or Fabul they would not so easily forgive. Where was the body of their king? The kingdom cried for it to be returned so they could bury it, but what would the answer be?
========= =========
Regardless of their fate the Mages waited on standby at the portal to the Devil's Road form Mysidia. The black mage sneered and scratched at his chin. This wait was killing him. It would be so much easier just to go in after them.
"Man this waiting sucks.... can't we just turn them all to frogs?!" He impatiently chided.
The white mage shook her head. "Will you be patient?! There is a trap down there waiting for them so don't worry so much!!" She forced, as the other, male, White Mage nodded in agreement.

It seemed that Zidane was going the right way, Rosa thought, as she clutched onto his back to be able to prop herself a bit upward to see Ifrit better. The Djinn was looking at her furiously, obviously enraged at her with her little water crystal stunt but Rosa was too at edge to even care. She twisted a bit to look onwards, watching as Zidane jumped on teleportation circles, making his way closer and closer to the last one. But the fireballs Ifrit sent their way made the walls crumble and fall, hindering them more than any misstep could.
"Uh Zidane..." She started, clutching at the cloth of his jerkin as she watched the Eidolon stop. Rosa could feel the heat around them intensify, then get sucked towards the general direction of the Eidolon, his smirk getting wider as the flames that licked his body grew in volume, making the dimly illuminated hallways grow much darker in comparison with the Eidolon's brightness, "We better hurry!" She exclaimed, clutching at his clothes firmly at his command, letting a small shriek as she felt him jump, bracing herself for any impact as she knew that the corridor did not have that high of a ceiling after all.
'"Rosa, fire into the wall, there!"
She looked to Zidane, her expression that of someone clueless before she looked back behind her, squinting at the wall far back. She could see a tiny crack forming on the wall and, for whatever reason, Zidane wanted her to waste an arrow on it. Without anything better to think of, she hastily reached behind her back for her bow, choosing a mythril arrow and letting it rip under her fingers, watching the arrow intently as it whizzed past the air, making contact with the crack, point-blank, on its middle.
The wall began to crackle, before it crumbled into a pile of debris, making Rosa face the other way to avoid the rubble that intended to fly to her eyes. The dust dissipated, and Ifrit is all charged up; the final teleportation circle gleamed behind the collapsed wall.
"Zidane! Now!"
As Ifrit let Hellfire out, Rosa hoped Zidane would jump on the circle in time before the first wave of flames engulfed them. With wide eyes she watched as the stoned melted as the wave of fire from the Djinn licked them mercilessly, before making its way towards the two. Rosa knew she would die in combat one day, but not like this, and certainly not without seeing Cecil nor Ceodore before she did.
And so her life rested upon the hands of the young thief.
--------
With the trap for the Queen at hand, and the young Prince out of the castle, the Black Chocobo's leader waltz inside the castle doors. The royal Chancellor met him with suspicion, noting the lad's onyx garb and masked profile, before gesturing for the guards. The royal guards just raised their eyebrows at him, a smirk forming on their lips as they pulled out their swords and pointed it, not at the stranger, but at the Chancellor.
"What is this insolence?!"The Chancellor demanded, mouth agape as the guards closed in, one of them seizing his wrist and clasping iron shackles over them, before bowing at the stranger. The leader laughed, a menacing, chilling tone before pulling his mask away, his amber eyes nothing but cold, "Won't you swear allegiance with me, old fool? Your King has deserted you, your Queen is busy with entertaining her sordid affairs, and your young Prince will soon follow his father's demise. Nothing will save you but you joining my ranks. Join me, and Baron will be left in peace." The stranger said, his devilish smirk sending a shiver down the Chancellor's spine. The old man, although shaken, stared back at him indignantly, his years of serving Baron instilled a deep pride in his wizened bones. No one is fit to rule Baron than the King himself, and no one can make him submit to subservience than that whom is worthy.
"I will die first than give you the authority to rule over my homeland."
"Then die along with the faith for your King."

Jovial Prince of Thieves
It had started out to be such a productive day. Now where did his mischief land him? Well he did not regret helping Rosa, but maybe it had been his fault in interfering that was the cause of all this? Well it was a stretch saying his nimble fingers were the cause for the dissent, but his presence sure seemed to add to the amount of trouble he got into. He had a real touch for trouble it seemed, pathetically so! Regardless of how he felt on the matter he had already made a promise and it was not in his nature to leave a girl abandoned on the wayside!
The wall collapsed, debris scattered around the ground and piling up. Zidane dropped down from his spot on the wall, his fingers and legs unable to hold on so precarious with the weight of an extra person on his shoulders. As he moved to let go and land, Ifirt released the sphere of concentrated fire, the flames almost white-hot in flames. The djinn released it with a howl and the ball of fire erupted against the pile of stones that were taken down by Rosa's arrow. The Genome was not expecting the force of energy wroght by the Eidolon's ultimate attack and he was sent flying into the portal.
He held into Rosa with all his might, but the wind had been knocked clear out of him as a sharp, stony shrapnel flew into the air and several managed to embed themselves into the thief. The portal transferred them intp the Magic Temple. The theif had landed face first, faint voices speaking over his head.
"Look! They're here!" The female White Mage called.
"Great, can we just get this over with?" The male White Mage encouraged as he pointed his staff toward Rosa.
The Black Mage grinned and held out his hand. "Let's turn 'em into frogs!" The cranky black caster bade.
"No, wait!" The female of the pair tried to stop him, but hte words of spell were already being uttered. A strange feeling came over Zidane's body, one he never before felt. His body began to shrink, so as his eyes fluttered opened he only saw his world become bigger.
It was too late. Zidane was not a frog. The Black Mage cackled as he charged his next spell, a Fire2 spell. The white mages surrounded Rosa and prepared their hands to cast.
"Please surrender!" The female mage begged. "Lady Rosa Farrell of Baron, surrender under the charges of espionage and sacrilege to the Sacred Mount Ordeals."
What was going on? Had the Black Chocobos even gotten their hands on Mysidia? There were stories of someone that is described as the King of Baron destroying the sacred King's Tombs.

The impact of Ifrit's hellfire sent Rosa into mid-unconsciousness, as she felt herself and Zidane thrown forward towards the final circle, but a sigh of relief escaped her lips once she felt the sunlight streaming onto her face. They made it out of the Devil's Road, and she can't help but sigh in relief as she shakingly let herself down from Zidane's shoulder, smiling as she opened her mouth to speak. But then she noticed that there are other people surrounding them.
She noticed that Zidane is bleeding; and before she could even open her palms for a quick cure spell, a bright light enveloped his body and turned him into a frog, much to Rosa's alarm.
"Stop! It is I, Rosa Joanna Farrell of Baron, I have come for urgent business with Palom and Porom." She started, although stopping midway as she looked at the staves raised to point at her, "What is the meaning of this?!" The Queen asked, her eyebrows furrowing as she quickly bent down to scoop up Zidane, muttering a quick Cura to soothe his wounds before stowing him away inside her pocket, just so she can be ready if in case they needed to go. He needed to rest, seeing as carrying Rosa is not an easy feat, no matter how slender the Queen is, and she didn't think the mages would let her chant an Esuna anyway, "I know of such things! The people of Mysidia sent me an important letter saying that King Cecil has been spotted somewhere near Mount Ordeals." She said, bracing herself as one of the mages went in closer.
"We sent you no such letter, lady Rosa. Please, surrender." the young mage pleaded again, and this time, Rosa felt magic stirring around her. The Queen remained mum, her hands shaking as she was stared down by the mages of Mysidia. This cannot be; how could the mages accuse her and Cecil of desecrating the sacred tombs? Isn't Cecil supposed to be there...maybe wounded? Wasn't that what the letter said? The gears in her mind skidded to a halt when she finally connected the pieces together. The stares of the people, the whisperings behind her back, the threats to overthrow the kingdom, all of this and the fact that right now, they were attacked and given hostile welcome is a prelude to what Rosa could only summarize in one word:
Mutiny.
"Ceodore." She whispered, panic shown in her eyes. The other mages looked at each other before shaking their heads, the female mage that seemed to function as their leader looking downcast, "The charges against you are obsolete, lady Rosa, and the fact that they were proven true with you showing here along with your...man...is enough to justify the things we need to justify in order to apprehend you." The young mage took pose, clutching her own staff, "My Queen...please don't make me hurt you."
"Aw c'mon! They are fugitives! Just arrest them already!"
The other mages nodded in consent and then and there, Rosa knew that they were in a tight place. She clenched her fist and started to channel the energy she needed, watching as the other mages grew quiet, and she knew that they can feel her power brewing.
They can only look on as Rosa disappeared into thin air. ---
She landed inside her room in Baron, panting with the effort of using Teleport the spell as taxing as it was before. She hurriedly opened the satchel and cast Esuna on Zidane after she laid put him on top of the bed, waiting as the spell took effect.
"I am so sorry Zidane..." She started, her lips trembling. A mutiny, inside their castle, and Ceodore surely is in danger. She stood up and walked towards the window, a gasp escaping her lips as she registered what was happening below, her knuckles turning white as she gripped the ebony ledges.
Baron is in flames, the guards barracks particularly looking damaged and in the middle of a heated battle, but she could not see any foes. The soldiers fought each other; brother against brother, friend against friend, and she didn't know which side is the traitor. There are also men clad in black clothing about, Looking imperative as they also joined the fray, slaying soldier upon soldier, never caring if they are part of those who went turncoat. Rosa could only watch in horror as the once majestic Kingdom went up in flames, her head shaking in anguish.
"No....stop..." She whispered, her hand shooting up to cup her lips. Everywhere was wreckage, and the Kingdom she worked hard to preserve was slowly being turned to dust.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Zidane felt his throat flex as a deep ribbit escaped his vocals. His entire body collapsed on the floor as his entire form shifted and took on a whole new measure of weirdness. He has never experienced anything like this before. It was like his body was snatched form him and he was forced into someone else's. It was really embarrassing. He supposed he can no longer make fun of the old man. This was an unpleasant state, but he had brought it on himself. Rosa was fighting hard and he had acted recklessly. There was no way he could apologize and now she stood to defend herself against an unknown foe. His body was heavy, even though it was so small. His lids peeled open and blue eyes would come upon the vision of his enemies. A Black Mage, and two White Mages looked to be formidable opponents.
He parted his slimy lips to speak, but a croak escaped his shaking throat.
He was sorry. He was sorry he did not consider his surroundings and ended up in such a sorry state. He was apologetic that he had been so foolish as to think things would be easy. He talked much of the time and could not deliver. It made him heavy with worry. What would happen now? Could Rosa defeat a team of magic casters on her own? She may have been a magic user herself but it was her against three others of unknown prowess. He would suddenly feel his newly formed body lifted off the ground and darkness swell around him, swallowing his minuscule form. Rosa had secured him in the woman's warm grip. He felt a healing spell brush through his battered body, still injured no matter how tiny it became!
There was so much to filter. His senses as a frog were different: muddled or even muted. Regardless on how he felt in his new condition he was aware how helpless and useless frogs were in states of combat. Even is mind was unable to process the finer points of the surrounding circumstance. All he was able to garner was someone, misunderstood a letter? Though this was not the guess, it was all his hazy froggy mind could postulate.
The next thing he knew he was in his body again! He had felt as if he was sucked into a portal, like a gravitational pull. It was not unknown to him as it was the same feeling the Invincible gave off when he would ride the transporter directly into the ship's cockpit. When his haze cleared he was human again, or at least as human as he was going to be. Wit ha flick of his tail he was able to process how alive he really was. He pushed his palms flat against the surface he lay on and raised his head. Whatever he was on it was soft. Looking around he found himself. He remembered hearing Rosa's voice in his shady sleep. SHe was apologizing, but for what? He was the one at fault! Suddenly he realize he was in some super fancy bed. He realized she had only just spoken aloud.
He pushed to stand and climbed off the bed. His boots hit the solid marble floor with a clack and he pandered his way up to the Queen's side. He now could see what set the mage on edge so. This sight, it was a familiar one. Fighting, fire, anger.... it was the touch of war between those that no longer trusted one another. His brows furrowed and he clenched his hand into a fist. Damn them. They had only just gone away and some enemy had stooped so low as to attack this beautiful kingdom?
"Rosa, enough!" Zidane asserted as he jumped onto the ledge of her window. Looking around he would stretch his body before turning to face her. "I know... you probably hurt, but you can't just hope for it to stop..." He reached out his hand to her.
He wanted her to trust him.
Sure it was a lot to ask. The last time they met he was a pretty reckless fellow and never thought twice about the actions he took if it meant getting what he wanted, but he did not want to see his friend hurt or cry. This was her kingdom, her home, was it not? He would probably end up showing her a side of him that was no good. A ruddy little thief that had a happenstance for getting into trouble and under everyone's skin.
"You can't give up, because when you won't take action, who will?" Man he was risking a lot. he was from a different world, but no matter where he was there was no reason to leave someone stranded and in danger. "I know a way we can find out what's up."
it was pretty easy to scale the ledges of the castle for the thief. He knew how to get into the room with the sacred Aegis Shield from this height. They needed to get somewhere where they had an advantage. In the while the assumed leader of the Black Chocobos made himself comfortable on the Baron throne. With men split apart causing dissent in the other countries, perhaps he would soon see the fall of kingdoms and the raise of the Federation?
"Soon, father. Soon we will see the coming of your dream!" He laughed out.
Outside of Baron an army of Soldiers mounted on Black Chocobos approached. Inside Baron there was not to be an easy method of forcing those loyal to the Trinity of Baron as Choco would protect the innocent, easily able to discern between good and evil. To the proud bird these people deserved far better masters! These were bad masters!!! But even as Choco fought he had to get to Zidane, he had seen it, seen where the Black Chocobos fly to and who it is that really leads the Black Chocobos.

Rosa's mind is in limbo, and the only thing that kept her sanity together was the fact that she needed to get to Ceodore to keep him safe. And how about her mother? How is Lady Joanna? She fought hard not to jump over the rafters and join the soldiers in battling those who defected. She had to know why...why did they betray her?
Zidane's voice barely registered in her mind, and she whipped her head to face him. Her tear strained face crumpled for a moment, wondering why he was here, but then slowly she calmed down, her mind clicking in place before she sunk to the ground, "My home...in flames... Zidane, what must I do?" She whispered, her eyes downcast. The sound of carnage from below made her shake, her tears refusing to stop. A queen, so weak, it must be laughable. She eyed Zidane's proferred hand, his words speaking of trust, but could she really do so. It was strange that he was here, strange that he found her in this world. A new doubt was forming in her mind.
"You...you're." She started, standing up. Her hand inched towards her chest, the other gripping the bow that she picked up from the floor. But he was a friend, wasn't he? He helped her through the Djinn and even stood up against the mages. But he was also a good actor. She looked around and noticed just how trapped she was, inside her own castle, with mutineers surrounding each and every passage they can possibly imagine. Was it possible that he was also a part of those who thwarted her Kingdom? Is it possible that their meeting is not an act of chance?
The Queen's heart leaned further to distrust.
"I need to find Ceodore." She whispered, a step backward away from Zidane showing her doubts. Her eyes remained fixed on his, yet the emeraldine brightness clouded and mossy. Rosa is panicking, her judgement of character shattered because of her doubts and with another step, she fled, closing the door behind her and running as fast as she could away from the man she once called friend.
She knew she can never trust anyone else for now but herself.

Jovial Prince of Thieves
Baron was a vision of war. The lesser leaders of the Black Chocobos having taken Baron by its reigns. Zidane had many cold feelings toward the manner. He had lived through war and tales of war so it was no stranger when it came barging at his door. Unlike most the thief was a realist and did not sit back against thoughts of pleasant consideration. He did not think things would turn out pleasantly grand, but he still had hope that if people fought they could fend off the evils that tried to invade their homes. This was his cold upbringing in he world, but the warm hand that kept him safe made sure he fought for that which he cared about.
When Rosa hesitated Zidane felt a stab to his heart.
He could hear the faded whispers of his memories as a friend's words ground a reminder in his heart: interfering with other worlds is no good. Was he interfering with Rosa's ways? He was an intruder, no better, perhaps than, a Heartless on he prowl. The Hero if Light felt as if Rosa had lost trust in him. It hurt. It hurt
[/b]. He could understand though. Down below Choco had arrived, flapping his wings, He had been looking for Rosa and Zidane, kicking his way through hordes of enemies. The thief smiled weakly and let his arms fall to his sides. His tail curled and began to bat around. He let his friend down. He was unable to help her. It was like watching the disappointed face of his canary. He lowered is head and allowed his bangs to fall over his eyes. He saw images of the war and the look of his canary's face as she watched the people she loved and strangers alike killed and fall dying at her feet. It was nothing he could comfort another for. Why had he any right to? He was sorry. He was a sorry excuse for a friend, a sorry excuse for a hero and a sorry excuse of a living being. He wished he was stronger He was sorry he was so weak. He was sorry he could not understand her pain. How could one even compare to that. " S-sorry Rosa…." Zidane stepped back and dropped off the edge of the roof. He would land on Choco and pull back trying to calm the bird after he startled it with such a high jump. He looked up at Rosa and smiled. " Don't worry… I'll find a way to help, no matter what, I promise." He knew that there was nothing here that he could do, but he had to find something, anything to regain that trust in her again. . . The Thief and Chocobo turned to race into the thick of battle, he did not want to show his face. Before he could react: a dark portal would open up and swallow the wandering heart whole. Zidane still carried the Whisperweed. He would not abandon his friend, but his heart took him away before he could unveil the truth he sought. Zidane has left the thread[/div] Thief. Light. Genome.
