Jovial Prince of Thieves [/size] Why could she not take a hint?! He was feeling uneasy, but his goal was within reach. Reputation? His reputation was nonexistent. As a thief he had to be conservative about his name and his face. Sure other crooks knew who he was, but who were they in the world except for another lost soul wandering aimlessly, reaching for the physical treasures of this world? It was all so transient, but he was a hypocrite was he not? He sought just the same! Just a little piece to be left behind, remembered. He did not necessarily wish to take it with him, but leave it behind and prove he was part of this world.
A horrible shriek was heard. Zidane was filled with terror when he recognize the bestial cry. It was the ripping tenor of a Griffin! The hair on the back of his neck stood on end, but more visibly his tail stiffened and raised into the air in surprise. He scrambled forward a bit when he felt the gust from the Griffin lunging between them. He pushed to stand, a bit unsteady on the small, slipping, piles of treasure.
"Rosa!" He shouted loudly. That shitty King! He should have known! Behemoth, Amdusias, Catoplepas.... but Griffin! The Griffin was missing! These were the monsters part once part of the Knights collection. Him and King were buddy buddy, much too much for his tastes. He did not mind the old, retired knight. His hobbies were tolerable compared to this creep. He had been told there was another monster found Knight retrieved from his journeys. He had never seen it, he was not able to defeat it before it was bought -- at the Auction.
Most likely kept by the greedy King himself. Griffins were only found in the depths of Fossil Roo and the Outer Continent, which even now many avoided due to the rumors which say the Mist as crawled its way through that tunnel, which had been long been sealed by a cave in. There were no more to be had unless one dared braved the unknown continent. Honestly the thief was glad for this. It kept the Genome and Black Mages safe.
His azure eyes focused, his slightly, slit pupil having expanded in the darkness. He glanced back toward the treasure. He could clearly see it, but now he had a choice to make. The Crystal Griffin, a treasure so priceless that its rumor was considered a fairy tale by even the most traveled treasure hunters. It was something Zidane coveted since he was younger. It was his goal, his want... A curse left his lips. he knew what the obvious choice was!! Left hand came over the leather holster. With the strap already slipped down he was able to draw the glistening, pink-tinted blades of his precious, and aptly named, Mage Mashers.
"Fucking beast! Over here!" The thief threw all pretenses to the wind. She was in serious danger.
Griffins were fast, and in such a small area they would be at the disadvantage. As he slid down the small pile of junk. It was all junk to him compared to the life of the mage. Even if he had met her but a stark, few hours, ago, she was a life. Irreplaceable. He kicked a sack, likely full of valuables, by the sound it made when it hit the side of the Griffin's fore arm and shattered when it hit the floor. The beast parted its beak and turned its bald head to the blond interloper. It shrieked, snapping that deadly, curled beak.
But Rosa struck the beast and seeing as she was closer, his attention was upon her once more. Zidane gritted his teeth and leaped up and attempted to land a drop kick on the feathered beast's side. The boy was met great disappointment. The eagle-eyed fiend snapped out his wing and pelted the tailed actor in the face, sending him rolling before a muted crack sounded when his back hit a crate, deftly stopping his momentum.
Zidane grunted and moved to push himself up. The wind had been knocked out of him. "Like...hell a piece of shiny rock is worth more than you..." The cocky thief pushed to stand and wiped the bit of blood drawn from his lip when his lightly sharp canines bit down from the force of his jaw being hit closed by the striking wing. "Tomorrow another rock will find its shine..." Tomorrow he would try again to leave his mark on the world.
The Griffin now turned his attentions to Rosa. It raised its left foreclaw and struck down ferociously. Zidane threw out his hand, a dagger gripped tightly in each one. "Look out!" He pushed to charge the feral beast.

If I don't come along...
Rosa dodged the beast once more, her arrows still pelting on it, a couple stuck to the skin as it found tender spots on its thick hide. Zidane had called her name, and she whipped her head to the side just in time to see him charge at the beast, an audible gasp escaping her lips.
"Zidane! No!" She exclaimed, looking past the beast towards him as he swung at it with his daggers. She shot another arrow to its head, hitting it dead-on and managing to recapture its attention, its beak letting out a sharp wail as it charged towards her, the talons raised and poised to strike. If Zidane didn't find his treasure soon, then it'll be all over, for the both of them, but clearly he's not looking anymore. Safe to say that they should escape, and she had a plan for that.
Somersaulting over the beast with all her might she managed to land beside the actor, her hand outstretched to grasp his. With all her powers, she chanted the teleport spell once his hand got in contact with hers, getting them out just as the beast raged towards them, its talons slicing through the air on the area where they once were.
They landed, spread-eagled onto the room in the inn, Rosa knowing the place now like the back of her hand, figured it'll be the best place to go to without room for mistake. She sat up, panting, her blood-stained sleeve torn but the wound gone because of her magic. Emerald eyes brought themselves to the man beside her, assuming he escaped with her and filled with tears, pulling her arms around him into a relieved embrace, "Thank goodness, I'm so sorry we didn't get your treasure." She cried, just thankful that they were both safe, and with her crystal at hand, she can finally go home. Finally.

Jovial Prince of Thieves The thief felt everything slowing down as he reached out toward the young woman. This was his fault. he could have gone down alone and risked himself. He always had to be a cocky shit and do everything his own way! He cannot make that sort of mistake! He would risk everyone around him for a selfish dream. His arm strained as his fingertips reached out and brushed against her own. As soon as he felt her hand he made a prayer.
Please, don't let me lose her
He felt an unfamiliar spell wrap around his body. Everything began to go white as the air around him shifted. What was happening?! There was a moment of fear, which he had forgotten. It was the fear of losing a friend, failing them. He instinctively pulled that body close. He nothing. There was silence before his ears began to work again, body catching up behind the grand teleportation spell. His eyes fluttered open as he had squeezed them closed in great faith that he would simply wake up from the nightmarish event.
A thick scent hit his nose. It was that of a woman. Pupils contracted as light filled his senses and ears caught the sound of the Treno waters beating against the old, wooden shack of an inn. They were back? So -- she really could use magic like that... Thank the Crystal. He looked up as she profusely apologized for his loss. Treasure? Shit. That was worthless. He reached out and pulled the girl into a hug, momentarily forgetting his place. He was a guy, they were in a room alone... but right now he was focused on dispelling his fear. She was still there, tangible.
"I'm sorry... He buried his face into her shoulder for a moment before he released her from the hug. He turned and pushed up to sit at the edge of the bed.
He hung his head low, bangs falling over his face. His long, white sleeves were dirtied and his jabot's ribbon discombobulated and frayed from its proper place. His gloved hand came up to press into his face as he sighed. Tears were discreetly wiped off. he looked to his hand and noticed blood he brushed from Rosa's sleeve. His heart was gripped with guilt. Azure eyes peered up from between the bangs and examined her to make sure she was alright.
He shook his head. It was not alright. "I'm sorry. But the second apology was for something else entirely. "I'm a wolf in sheep's clothing." He admitted. he looked to his hands and gripped them, Daggers on the floor of the inn. he glared at the weapons. What was the point if he could not wield them? He had to get stronger. This would not stand.
He looked up to her and smiled brightly, though it was evident that this was but a forced farce to settle her frayed nerves were she as distraught as he. He was the man, he had to be the anchor, right?
"It wasn't supposed ta go so far. I almost got you hurt..." Killed. She could have died. "I know it's hard to think much of someone you just met, but I think you're a good person, Rosa. A good friend. I asked you to trust me and I betrayed it." Shitty, useless man. He reached up to rub at the side of his head with a laugh. "I was intending to steal the Crystal Statue... I wasn't lying though..." He simply with held many truths. "I am who I said I was.... the Crystal Statue was something my dad, my troupe's boss, had always thought of possessing. I tried once before..."
He regaled her of that time. He was young, foolish and barely cresting the age of adulthood at around eleven or thirteen. He heard a rumor that King had secured the Legendary Crystal Griffin statue. He went to steal it, but had been caught in the King's trap. He found himself dangling by his wrists for hours before he finally managed to escape. He had blamed someone else for the break in and returned home, only to be scolded, beaten by his pops.
"He said he didn't care about some damn, shitty piece of glittery rock... if it meant me dying." He shrugged. "After that I started to wonder about what death really meant... became kinda obsessed with not wanting to be forgotten by the people I cared about. That was what i used to think death meant... a sadness that happened before people forgot you and moved on."" But it was not so simple. It was an obsession, rule. he would just have to tell the old man he gave up, because he found something he wanted more: a life to be saved.
The male stood and brushed off his sleeves before he adjusted his collar and jabot, tying his ribbon properly. He took a deep breathe and fell down to one knee as he arm came around his chest and he offered a full, cordial bow. He stared at the floor.
"I apologize and beg your forgiveness my baroness." The thief stood and smirked, rubbing the side of his head. He meant every word, but he was unsure if they were accepted.

If I don't come along...
'I'm sorry.'
His words, followed by the soft touch of his arms around her left the white mage sobbing in relief, pulling him tighter and whispering 'thank yous' to all the crystals in her worlds. He let her go and she was still sniffing while wiping away her tears just thankful that he was alive.
He seated on the bed, looking so defeated as he pulled his palm to his face, and Rosa wanted nothing but to comfort him. She was a bit startled when he suddenly looked up, examining herself and she grew conscious of the blood on her sleeve. She waved it off with a smile, showing him that there was no wound, she's a white mage after all.
'I'm a wolf in sheep's clothing'
The confession was followed by the dropping of his daggers; and they shined more beautiful than when Rosa first saw them. She looked down, knowing all along what he was and when he confessed, she figured she didn't care. He still went to save her rather than look for the treasure, and thief or not, it didn't change how Rosa thought of him, it made her admire him more.
"I know Zidane, I've known since the night we returned to the inn." She said, standing up and sitting on the other bed across from his. The smile that serenely overtook on her face described her feelings; she wasn't angry at all, how could she, when the boy had saved her life and helped her get her crystal, and not to mention her pouch, back and there was nothing else she could ask for, "I understand why you had to do it, but I do agree that it was a bit reckless of you." She ripped off her bloody sleeves, leaving her shoulderpads intact without the silken ornaments, figuring she can always sew a new one in anyway, "And your father is right; your life is worth than a crystal. If I had known it'll be that dangerous to retrieve mine, I wouldn't have agreed to go get it. I wouldn't risk the life of a friend for a thing that would help me get stronger, because what is strength without someone to use it to protect? No, strength is meaningless without purpose." She echoed what his Majesty, her King told her when she was a child, and it had never been clearer than anything today. She finally learned what it meant and she is thankful for the boy, thankful for the experience she gave her.
She would never forget this world, not a chance.
It was when he stood up and bowed, an apology again murmuring on his lips that she had to shake her head and stand up, bowing as well, "Thank you, Zidane, no need for apologies and if you ever need to get that statue back, we'll be ready next time." She reached into her pouch, pulling out a small flower and giving it to him, "This is something that's called Whisperweed; it's a flower that grows somewhere in my land and it has the ability to carry your voice to the person that has a plant like it. I have some in my room, and if ever you need me just talk to it, and I will surely know how to get back." She stepped back, crystal in hand, her cheerful face nodding a final goodbye, "I hope you don't forget, Zidane, as sure as I would not, I may be going home but I'm taking these memories with me. Thank you so much for everything and may we see each other again." With a last bow, the Young White mage turned on her spot, the Teleport spell escaping her lips and she was gone in a flash of light, leaving the scent of roses in the air behind her.

Jovial Prince of Thieves The young thief listened to the kind words of the mage. A smile drew itself upon his lips . She was a good friend. He appreciated it and would never hesitate. When she offered him the strange item he took it into his hands with the utmost care. He pulled it to his heart and grinned.
"And the same goes for you..I'll come runnin', cause that's what friends do." The gentle words were spoken with a softness not heard before in the boy.
To think there were such strange occurrences in this world, but he was glad to experience each one. He brushed his face once more before he looked up and watched as his new friend banished from this world. She was safe home though. She was safe now. He looked down to his daggers and crouched to retrieve his beloved partners. When he stood and holstered the weapons he turned his head to the sound of the inn door opening. His brows raised to the sight of the gang returning. He laughed and brushed his fingers through his hair.
"Quiet day, huh?" He laughed out, knowing it had been a pretty exciting one.
The boy went home. He had more shows to put on and more ladies to woo. He would continue to learn to better traverse the stage, since not everyone could afford to travel these dangerous lands. The role of a wolf's clothing suited the little black sheep just fine....
